About 50 metres the highway exit Palmi, along the Salerno-Reggio Calabria, there is a new big hotel: GHSM. In a place with a natural and suggestive landscape as the ancient "Vallis Salinarum"; GHSM is one of the most exclusive hotels of this edge of Mediterranean, rich of "breath away" landscapes and history, culture, traditions and in the centre of an area that is promoting for a business tourism(at first Gioia Tauro port). In addition to the pleasant surroundings, there is the excellent quality of services in order to render delightful and unforgettable the stay as for tourists as for the business people. GHSM restaurant offers gastronomic and typical dishes of Calabria and Mediterranean but at the same time suggests international refined flavours with an enviable wine list.
We stayed 1 night having just arrived on the ferry from Sicily. When we arrived there were no other vehicles in sight and my husband parked right outside the door whilst I went in to request help with our luggage. Before I had a chance to say a word the girl at reception told me to move the car to the car park at the back where there was a lift to come up to reception on level 0. I said we just wanted to unload the bags but no, she was adamant. We found the car park but had to park quite a distance from the lift and we struggled with our 5 bags (it was a 7 week tour of Italy). We got in the lift only to find it didn't stop on floor 0 so we had to change lifts on floor 1. When we finally got to reception the receptionist had disappeared and we waited at least 5 minutes to be checked in, even though there were no other guests around. It was about 5pm and we hadn't eaten since breakfast but when we asked about the restaurant we were told it didn't open until 8pm but she offered to have a sandwich sent up to the room. We really wanted a proper meal so we waited for the restaurant to open. I wish we hadn't! We arrived at the restaurant at 8pm and there were no other diners. There was T.V. in the corner and the waiter was more interested in the football than he was in us. It was so cold that I went back to the room to get my coat although when he saw me wearing it, the waiter did at least put the heating on. We were given menus; tatty bits of paper in plastic covers. When my husband took his out of its cover the waiter came rushing over and put it back, indicating that it was for hygiene reasons. The only problem was that the plastic cover was grimy with finger prints. The menu was limited but I had lovely, summery starter of an orange and fennel salad with finely sliced olives. Then it all went down hill. The bread rolls were hard. We asked for the wine list but instead were brought 2 bottles of white wine to choose from with no indication of cost. For the main course my husband had the fish of the day (overcooked) and I had prawns (also horribly overcooked) and chips. I asked for a mixed salad but when it arrived it was simply a bowl of iceberg lettuce. When I mentioned it to the waiter he said it also contained rocket. I invited him to find it for me; of course he couldn't. I sent it away. In the end we used the stale bread to make chip sarnies since neither main course was edible. We drank the wine which was just about OK. When we finished we asked for the bill but were told it would go on our room bill and we would pay at checkout. Hmmmm, when I asked for the restaurant bill at checkout I was told they didn't have an itemised bill, only the total which was 63 euros for a meal that was, for the most part, inedible. We will never know whether we paid for the bowl of lettuce that was parading as a mixed salad. As far as the actual hotel is concerned, it was dark, gloomy, tired and dated. We had booked a junior suite which was big enough but was also dark, gloomy, tired and dated. To spend more than a night there would probably result in suicidal tendencies. As for the positive reviews, I simply don't believe them; they must have got this hotel confused with another.

Lovely guest house, clean and quiet. Very modern with great facilities. Great location. Check in was a little tricky but the owners were quick to respond to assist. They also provided us with advise about the local area including a laundrette, which was very useful. Thank you for a lovely stay!

The view from the resort is stunning. That’s it. No other reasons to be chosen as a wedding venue. We stayed here for 2 days for a wedding. The first day there was a wedding in the morning and a birthday party in the evening so that we had to wait to get in our rooms and when we started to get bored by the waiting, a couple of hours, they finally decided to guide us through the wedding party!!! Oh yes because the resort is so bad organised that half of the room are accessible only via the buffet area.... if a party is on the swimming pool was out of bounds. The swimming pool in it self is slightly bigger than a jacuzzi. And there is no access to the sea, and no shuttle service to the sea. The wedding buffet was chaotic and during the sitting down reception the music was so loud we couldn’t speak around the table. When the groom went to ask to stop the music they refused to interrupt “their” show. But the most pretentious point was the useless chefs parade with a half veal on display. Rooms are small and bathroom are as big as broom cabinet.

Stayed one night on our way from Sicily to Bari. Very convenient as it is only meters from the motorway. Too early in the season so it was almost empty and most facilities were closed. Faded glory of old times. Good service in reasturant but food, at best, average.

Where do I start. From the minute we walked in the front door the desk staff were rude in the sense that they just sat there looking at us with an annoyed look then finally said hello without even looking at us. From there the lady went into her welcoming spool and when I said my Italian is minimal she rolled her eyes and simply handed me a key and pointed to the lift and said forth floor. The pool is fantastic but you can't use most days as the times you can are 8.00 to 11.30 am only add if there is an event e.g. wedding the pool is closed for the day so you get to spend your European holiday in your room with the air conditioning on to stay cool. If you manage to get Frank on the desk it's like winning tattslotto as he is very helpful and respectful of your needs but is still limited as to what he can do. The hotel is more a reception centre and should be advertised as such.

An absolutely lovely and gracious couple manages this surprisingly fantastic B&B. Phenomenal view of the Costa Viola and Eolian Islands -- even Etna on a clear day -- from the well appointed terrace. Abundant breakfast. Immaculate cleanliness. We used this as a base (off season) from which to explore the coast and inland. Highly recommended for the budget conscious! Thank you, Rosita and Antonino.

We arrived into Palmi late at night and were greeted by the very friendly Emilio and Vincenzo. They showed us around the spacious apartment and facilities leaving no stone unturned. Although they spoke very limited English, we were able to communicate using Google Translator. The room was very clean, with a queen sized bed and a single, plenty of room for three sharing adults. The bathroom was extremely clean with towels provided. There is plenty of cupboard and storage space. Breakfast was provided and was simple yet delicious! The kitchen is available to guests at all times, with coffee, juice and tea on offer. Emilio and Vincenzo joined us at breakfast and were extremely charming and entertaining. The location of the B & B is amazing. A short walk to everything Palmi has to offer. The reason of our visit was to visit Melicucca, a very small town near by Palmi. Emilio’s colleague Vincenzo did not hesitate and offered to drive us for a very reasonable fee. We were looked after from the minute we stepped into the B & B to when we left and were escorted to the train station. This was day one and two for our Italian Adventure and the reason it was so amazing was simply because of these two men. This B&B is without a doubt the best we have stayed in. The bar and our expectations for the rest of our trip are ceremony set high thanks to B & B Degli Artisti.
