Dating from before 1600 Maesmawr Hall Hotel is the perfect country house destination for business, leisure or that very special occasion. From the minute you turn into the long driveway and glimpse the half-timbered house that is Maesmawr Hall Hotel you know you are somewhere special. The hotel has a rich history and original features can be seen throughout the main house including the stylish restaurant, cosy bar and panelled meeting room. Set amongst the glorious Powys countryside, five miles from Newtown, it’s the ideal base from which to explore mid Wales and its many attractions; while the stunning coastline of Cardigan Bay is a mere 50 minutes away. Larger towns such as Shrewsbury, Chester and Aberystwyth are also within easy reach. Visitors will also appreciate modern facilities such as wireless internet access in the main house and a large function room.
Beautiful old Tudor style property great olde world character, inside and out. Enjoyed a good quality two course meal in the restaurant and a few cold beers in the bar. The room was spacious and comfortable, the en-suite a tad outdated. All of the staff we engaged with, were polite, helpful and very professional. On a warmer evening, sitting outside in the picturesque gardens would be a nice bonus. Almost forgot………breakfast was very good. Pricing was very reasonable, we will definitely return when visiting Wales.

Parkers House B&B is a newly established family run B&B in the centre of Newtown, Powys, above Parkers restaurant with 8 en suite rooms and private parking. All rooms have recently been renovated to a high standard and include tea & coffee making facilities, free view tv, free Wifi, guest towels and ironing facilities. We are within a short walking distance of the railway & bus stations
Let me start with my gripe! At breakfast, the morning after our stay a lady called Tina (perhaps the owner) came into the room to engage with the guests. There were three tables of guests including my table. Tina with great warmth engaged with table one. Have a good five minute conversation with them and being very engaging. She then moved to table two, again showing great warmth and attention to her guests. Following her conversation with table two, she turned, looked at our table and walked out of the room!! Not even a basic ‘good morning’. Perhaps Tina assumed that because we were brown we could not speak English!! Even my teenage son commented “she ignored the brown table!” With regards to our accommodation it was great. We had room one. A nicely presented room and a spotlessly clean bathroom. The one issue we had was the heating was on full blast and we were unable to turn it down or off from the radiator no matter which way we turned the control on the radiator. This made the room uncomfortably hot but luckily we found a fan in the cupboard so put this on to counter the heat and it made the temperature more bearable when sleeping. The car park was fun to get into. Like a crystal maze challenge but simple when following the precise instructions given. Overall a fantastic room and great breakfast. The only blip was the blatant ignorance/racism shown by Tina. Maybe Tina could educate herself.

After quite a few years since our last stay in this beautiful house, we were not disappointed with our recent visit. A friendly welcome from Tim and Helen . The rooms are beautiful . very comfortable and spotless. Breakfast was excellent. We especially enjoyed the yogurt and homemade compote and freshly baked bread . We enjoyed a good bottle of wine and nibbles on the sunny terrace after a long day walking. Perfect. Very good location. Looking forward to another visit but won't leave it so long next time. DIolch yn fawr.

I have stayed all over the country in different hotels. I’m a supervisor in construction. I had three days this week in Abermule in Wales. Hotels were thin on the ground, not sure why so my only option was The Bell Hotel in Newtown. Against my better judgment I reserved two nights. HORRENDOUS. Within the first five mins I had a hound lady telling me not to be surprised if the armed police stop by as it’s a regular occurrence. Apparently the local council house all the druggies and homeless here. I went up to the room after having to call the staff on the phone twice to be met with a literal s@&thole. If I can I will leave photos. There was a pube stuck to the bathroom wall, the room smelled like a drain. I’m not joking, like mould and damp. It’s disgusting. DO NOT STOP HERE. Find a travellers hostel. You’ll be better off. Zoom in on the first pic and you will see the pube. Never in all the hotels I have stayed in have I ever seen something like this.

Decided to stay in Newtown for a couple of nights to enjoy the local countryside, and settled on staying at The Elephant & Castle. We arrived on a motorcycle and when we checked in were immediately offered parking in the gated, secure, garden rather than the main carpark which was a nice touch. Our room (in the front section of the hotel) was on the smaller side, but perfectly adequate with a comfy bed and clean shower room. My only criticisms were that there was a paucity of places to hang wet towels after showering, and the room curtains were overcome by strong early-morning sunlight. Breakfast was served in the Riverside Restaurant and the full English consisted of quality food well cooked and presented, and substantial in size. Plentiful supplies of toast, cereals, preserves, tea & coffee were available on a buffet basis. At the front of the hotel is a pleasant pub/bar which was comfortably furnished and had a good atmosphere. The bonus was that the bar prices were comparable with those in local pubs instead of being the rip-off that so many hotels charge.

Clean and lovely room. All in all we had a lovely short stay beside the cold room, I would prefer the radiator operates all night, not time set. Large parking space in a quiet atmosphere. Paul is a gentle host. Hope to be back for longer stay. Cheers!

We were stopping in Llanbister and our hosts recommended the Dolfor Inn and it did not disappoint. Was a lovely pub and the staff friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic, home cooked and generous portion sizes. My husband had the mushrooms to start and I had the potato bravas, followed by fish & chips and I had southern fried chicken, chips & coleslaw. Portions were very generous and the food was delicious. Unfortunately was so full couldn’t sample dessert and I really wanted too but what I saw they looked amazing. If your in the area would highly recommend .

We always recommended Gregynog to anyone for a visit. The grounds are well maintained and easy to wonder around. Parking is easy and there’s toilets available. On site there’s a cafe ( we didn’t try)
