Sixteenth century palace in the middle of the medieval city of Morella. Open as a hotel in the 60's and totally reformed in 2013.All the 16 rooms with beautiful views of the landscape or the city.
This is a difficult hotel to rate since some aspects are absolutely brilliant while others are a tad lacking. It's a wonderful medieval building with amazing views over the surrounding mountains and right in the heart of the Old Town. There's an extraordinary old stone staircase and our room had beams and fabulous views plus comfortable beds. The staff are very helpful and do their absolute best to ensure you have a decent stay, though at times things felt a little amateurish. For example, we were locked out of our room every single day during our 4 day stay; our key had to be reprogrammed. The water in our shower never really got hot and though the staff did their best rectify this there, was little improvement during the 4 days we were here. Plus the breakfast, well good value, was slightly chaotic. For example every morning we had to ask for bowls and milk so that we could eat the cereal provided. Little things. Dinner menu vg (especially salads, and rice dishes), though maybe some daily variety would be good. This seems like the best bet in town so we'd recommend you stay here, if visiting Morella.

We chose this hotel for its location, right in the town centre, and it was a great choice. The Staff are very friendly and helpful, and offer good service. The rooms are nice, well equipped and very clean. During the lockdown, as a resident, you can have a meal (and a drink) between 8-9 pm, which is a bonus as everywhere else closes at 6pm. Only downside for us was the pillow, for the double bed it’s the Spanish single type, we prefer a pillow each, which you can get from reception. Recommended

Hotel El Cid was easy to find, just inside the wall gate and check in was quick and welcoming. There is apparently lots of free parking on the streets of the village, but you should note that there are only a few spaces in front of the hotel. If you want to find street parking you have to turn left immediately before the hotel, and that street is where you should look for space. As things looked a bit busy on the parking front, when the receptionist offered us a space in the hotel garage for 10Euros we jumped at it, and I have to say that as far as entry space and the actual parking bays are concerned, it’s probably the best hotel garage I’ve ever used. The hotel is probably what you would rate as 2 star, which is reflected in the fact that instead of air conditioning there is a ceiling fan. Whether this becomes a problem later on, only time will tell! Our room on the 4th floor is spacious enough and very nicely furnished and decorated. It has a modern en-suite bathroom And it also has a balcony overlooking the valley below, with a couple of chairs to sit on. Our bed was very comfortable and, with some cool air coming in the partially opened window and the fan on, the lack of air conditioning wasn’t an issue and we slept very well. Breakfast was very nice and was brought to you. It consisted of orange juice, yogurt, melon, pane con tomate, cheeses, ham and, of course cakes (which is still a strange concept for me!). It was all very nice and was taken in a nice dining room overlooking the village walls. What a lovely way to start the day. Morella is a lovely village and Hotel el Cid is a perfect place to stay. Service has been warm and friendly and we would certainly stay here again.

The room, bed and bathroom were comfortable and the breakfasts had plenty of fresh fruit and good bread. The best thing though was the friendly and helpful staff. They speak excellent English and allowed me to stay in my room till 3.30 of checkout day. They also offered to give me and my luggage a lift down to the bus stop - without being asked! I would definitely choose this hotel again for a stay in Morella.

We enjoyed our stay here. Beautifully furnished hotel at a very reasonable price. It is in the centre of the old village which is spectacular though difficult to access by car and no on-street parking anywhere close however we felt that was only a small disadvantage. Our room was large, clean and very comfortable with a large bathroom. The breakfast was basic but adequate. The staff were really friendly.

I stayed here for 3 nights in October. The room was plenty big enough with a decent bathroom and the hostel was very clean. Breakfast was included in 30 euro price although only available after 9 am and fairly basic. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would stay again.
