The Luxor in Las Vegas is to the actual CITY of Luxor, Egypt, as marshmallow fluff is to fois gras. (We’re sure you knew that. We just enjoy analogies.) Sure, the hotel/casino in Vegas might have a beam of light visible from space, but we bet you'll find a hot-air balloon ride over the Valley of Kings much more illuminating. This really is an excellent Hilton hotel. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and didn’t over pressure for tips. Food is good, and the rooms and general facilities are excellent. The pool area is also first class, with a beautiful view over the Nile. Even though it can get busy it doesn’t feel crowded. Overall an excellent choice if you plan a stay in Luxor.

The 5-star Steigenberger Nile Palace is situated in the heart of Luxor and provides modern accommodation with stunning views of the Nile. The spacious rooms are air-conditioned and feature satellite TV. Most rooms have a balcony and all are filled with natural light. Nile Palace Luxor Hotel is conveniently located within a short walk of Luxor's large shopping district. Guests can make use of the fitness center, sauna, and massage. Luxor Temple is 1 km away. Nile Palace Luxor offers a wide choice of restaurants, serving Lebanese, Italian, Fine Dining and international cuisine. Guests can make use of the fitness center and sauna. The hotel also offers a 24-hour front desk and the in house Travel Desk can help organize local tours. The East Bank is a great choice for travelers interested in temples, museums and history.
We booked an Executive Suite with Nile View for 6 nights. The room is large, approx. 740 sq ft, and has a full length balcony with 2 loungers and 2 chairs overlooking the Nile. We were very pleased with the room. It had been recently renovated and the airconditioning worked very well. There was a very comfortable bed and we would recommend paying the extra money for the Executive Suite so you can get the great sunsets and views of the river and West Bank that is lit up at night. Room service is also very good and we tipped accordingly. Our flight arrived in Luxor at midnight and a free transfer was included with the Executive Suite so no midnight haggling required. Tips are expected to be paid in Egypt and whilst we didn’t have any Egyptian money when we arrived we had some USD currency and that works well. There is an ATM at the entrance to the hotel but that didn’t work for our UK bank card but the ATM across the road and up 7 steps worked very well and dispensed Egyptian currency. Getting small denominations to tip hotel staff is very difficult. The reception only occasionally had notes smaller than 50 EGP. If they had more change then the staff would get more tips. Service is well meaning at the hotel but a little off western standards. The swimming pool started producing algae blooms and the pool attendants did nothing. I spoke with the Guest Relations Manager and the Front of House Manager and they did come and look at the pool but didn’t have a plan to get it fixed either. After I refused to leave reception until something was done for this obvious health hazard, they contacted the hotel manager, Hesham Shehab, and he took one look at the pool and realised that there was a big issue and called a maintenance company in who uncovered that the pool filters were clogged up and not circulating the water. I suggested to Mr Shehab that his management team need a daily checklist and one of these items should be checking the pool. He gave me platitudes in return but it was clear they prefer to be reactive rather than proactive. We had dinner in the hotel every night as the Steigenberger restaurants are near the top of the list on Tripadvisor and there were no obvious alternatives. The Lebanese restaurant in the inner courtyard didn’t look inviting but we did try the Italian restaurant. We sat at a table on the Italian restaurant’s terrace but smoking was allowed there and so we moved inside which was a touch frosty from the airconditioning. For the other 4 nights we dined on the bar’s terrace. The hotel wasn’t very full and no-one was smoking on the bar’s terrace and our server explained that we could order food from the bar menu, Italian restaurant, Asian restaurant or Lebanese restaurant. This worked very well and the food always came out quickly and was good so we tipped accordingly. A word of caution with the cocktails. There are 2 prices… one using local spirits (160++ EGP = 11 USD) and one using imported spirits (360++ EGP = 25 USD). We drank the Whiskey Sours every night using the local spirits and these were good but there wasn’t really any other local cocktail that was ok and USD 25 is insane for a cocktail. In case management read this review I would suggest reducing the brightness of the light in the bar inside area as it is like giant spotlights and too harsh. The terrace lighting was fine. We spent 6 hours every morning exploring Luxor and the afternoons were spent by the pool which was a good mix. There is plenty to do for 5 days and it is worth buying the USD 200 Luxor pass that includes entrance to the amazing SETI I tomb, Queen Nefertari tomb and King Tut’s Tomb not to mention, many other amazing sites and you save over 100 USD with the pass. The only site we paid extra for was Dendera that is a 90 minute drive away and that was only 4 USD. We researched all of the accommodation options in Luxor before we came and the decision came down to the Sofitel or the Steigenberger. We walked past the Sofitel when visiting Luxor temple and it looked very very tired so for the moment the Steigenberger has the best accommodation but we did see a Four Seasons hotel is in the process of being built and the foundation has been laid. We really enjoyed our time at the Steigenberger in the Executive Room.

Winter Palace, built in 1886 on the Nile banks in a tropical garden is a magical experience of history luxury that hosted royalties and celebrities throughout the years. Winter Palace offers the mythical atmosphere with the modern decor comfort of a 5 star hotel. It is located in the city center, just minutes from Luxor Temple and the airport.
The hotel is lovely…. The people, food and accommodation is very authentic… the garden and pool area is the most used area of the hotel and are relaxing and great overall. You need the hotel to be nice because your not leaving it…. Outside the hotel, you are bombarded by very poor effectively beggars offering/pushing horse cart transport for $1 usd …. And there are no restaurants, attractions or reason to leave the hotel.. it is understandable why people fly in and out in one day from Cairo and that is exactly what I will do when I come back with the family. I did need to change my nights from three to two and I was charged although they clearly were not at capacity… so that remains a sour experience because it wasn’t non refundable because they reserved a room … it was just a money grab. So book less nights than needed and extended if need be so your not stung like I was. Another tip…. Do not stay in the rooms facing the Nile…. The cars and bikes scream up and down the road tooting and beeping all night and day … I had two hours sleep before I was moved to a garden room which i was very grateful for…. Second tip - expect to get your bill before you even start to eat or drink… it is almost like a race to have you sign off on the bill… I don’t get it… it is strange but at least a service charge (typically 12.5%) isn’t added and you can pay a tip according to the quality of the service …

Nestled upon the private "Kings Island" in the Nile that covers 660,000 sqm, the resort truly is an oasis of peace and tranquility. The idyllic, landscaped hotel grounds are expansive and home to the two main buildings, bungalows and three enticing swimming pool areas. The historic sights of Luxor, located only 4 kilometres from the hotel, can be easily reached by complimentary shuttle buses. The island is connected to the mainland only by a bridge and is virtually free of charge. This makes the resort an ideal location for families with children. The resort has been renovated in 2010 and extended by 320 rooms and suites in 10 elegant bungalows, new restaurants, a pool of 2,800 sqm in size and a SPA with fitness centre (from early-sommer 2011).
This place is amazing with 3 pools, magnificent gardens, numerous seating areas, a great bar, the staff are so friendly, the rooms are a good size - bungalow style and quiet. I would recommend anyone to stay here, right on the banks of the Nile and a quiet location. Loved it and would definitely stay here again.

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for two nights. The owner is very charming and funny, but he is a smiling assassin. He will do anything for you, but over charge for it as well. I don't use the word lightly, but he stole from myself and a friend. He said he could get us a train ticket to Cairo that wasn't the sleeper train, and save us money. We paid upfront like he asked. About 10 mins before we set off the the train station, he said he couldn't get train tickets (we checked later and still train tickets available, but has got us a bus if we leave now. He got to to the bus station and gave tickets to the driver. It was when the driver passed them to us we realised he has overcharged us E£400. We paid for tickets to Alexandria, but the coach only took us to Cairo. It soured our stay in Luxor. It cheap, but not when he is ripping you off. Please avoid this place. He also preasures people into doing reviews before they have left, in front of him. Don't do it and say you will write it afteryou leave. Watch your wallet, know the price of things and don't let people overcharge you, which they will try to do everywhere in Luxor.

Located on the banks of the River Nile in the midst of a tropical garden in the city centre, near the luxor Temple and other attractions such as the Karnak Temple, the Luxor museum, the International Convention Centre and the Mummification Museum. The Pavillon Winter Palace features three restaurants, two bars and a swimming pool. We apologize for any inconvenience that may occur due to the construction work taking place nearby the hotel as of June 14 th 2008 for a period of 6 months.

Ok budget hotel to stay at. Room was clean and serviced well during our stay. Front desk was hospitable as was the wait staff. Breakfast buffet was good and tasteful. We did have lunch and a dinner during our stay. Food was not very tasty and the second evening we went to a different hotel to dine at their restaurant. Our biggest concern was the billing for food. The service fee and tax was added into one number and not shown individually. The total was 77% of what our food costs. Local tax plus service fee is 27% not 77%. The manager would argue that his number was correct but he would not complete the calculation on his calculator…why not? Eventually the bill was corrected. Very disappointing experience. The next day we were shown a chart that the wait staff used to calculate the tax and service charge by item on the menu. He knew what the correct number was, but tried to overcharge us.
