Disappointing and expensive

Reviewed By stevemW4277KK

We stayed two nights for the Ludlow Spring Festival. We booked 6 months in advance and emailed direct to ask specifically for a room with a bath. On arrival we didnt get the room with a bath and when we asked why we were curtly told they had received the email but they dont reply if we booked through Hotels.com. The room was clean, bed comfortable and breakfast was good but we didnt dine there. Location is as good as it looks with a view of the castle over the river and walking distance into town although there is a steep uphill climb to get there. Negatives were the sullen attitude of the staff at times and a strong smell of sewage on the staircase. The one evening we used the bar they closed the bar promptly and left us to finish our drinks in semi darkness. The TV in the room had an odd menu system which we didnt manage to master fully. The sink tap was confusing to use and once we had figured it the water pressure could have been better. Overall this was an expensive stay for the experience and we shall not be booking again as we have stayed at much better places in Ludlow. Accommodation is at a premium on event weekends and it is apparent that at this hotel they dont have to try hard to please customers so they don’t bother.

Wonderful Rooms With A Genuine Historic Feel

Reviewed By Dave B

We spent a lovely night in the Junior Suite, much bigger than expected with an enormous comfortable bed and a wonderful bathroom. Spotlessly clean and very quiet with a wonderful view of Ludlow from the window, you really feel part of the history of the place as you sit/lie under the ancient roof beams. If you really must watch tv in bed you will be disappointed because there is one tv and that is in the sitting room and they are rooms rather than a traditional hotel with a reception desk and an all you can eat breakfast etc but if that ruins your stay you are missing the point of the experience, it really is a wonderful place to stay!

The Bull Hotel

We offer a large bar area, comfortable lounge area as well as a recently refurbished accommodation and we are only a stone’s throw from historic landmarks such as Ludlow or The Market in the town square. Our bar offers a wide range of wines, beers, spirits, and real ales too. We try to keep our accommodation to a high standard which available throughout the year however we understand that our name "The Bull Hotel" automatically gives you expectations of... well a hotel but we are not a hotel, we are a 16th Century Coaching Inn that has rooms located above the bar but the building has been known as The Bull Hotel since 1508. We serve a hot cooked breakfast for our hotel guests using as many locally sourced ingredients as we can. There are events and fayres all throughout the year in historic Ludlow with The Bull hosting, contributing, or taking part in them. Therefore, The Bull offers you the perfect place for you to stay right in the centre of it all while you are visiting. Our recently refurbished rooms are all en-suite and come with a colour television, hairdryers, towels, and complimentary toiletries as well as tea and coffee making facilities. Onsite parking is no longer available as the courtyard closed for car parking and has become a Courtyard Beer garden. The closest available parking is located at Galdeford Car Park with rates as low as £2.40 for all day parking. Please note that The Bull, under normal circumstances, has live music on Saturday nights and over the full weekend during Ludlow festivals until late and therefore noise will be experienced in the rooms. The family room may not be suitable for young children when live music is playing. The Bull Hotel is a 12th Century Coaching Inn with our four En-suite letting rooms located above the bar therefore bar noise can be experienced in most rooms when the premises is busy. However due to the current pandemic all live music has been cancelled until further notice.

Bizarrely grim

Reviewed By MrJudge1996

The reviews seemed good - evidently others' experience is different. The offputting 'welcome' is a large sign that you will be thrown out if you don't comply with government Covid regulations - at a time when none were in force. The room was small, indeed cramped, and not terribly clean, although the single bed was comfortable. For heating, neither of the radiators worked. For ventilation, the windows were locked shut, but fresh air was available because one of the windows was broken (not cracked - broken, with glass missing). The 'free wifi' needs a pasword which is not disclosed on checkin or in the documents in the room (it was the middle of the night before I discovered I needed the password). The decoration of the room includes empty picture frames, one with a notice about how to insert a picture. There is a residents' lounge, tastefully furnished with a couple of daily papers about a week old, and a pile of spare parts for the boiler. In the morning this becomes the self service breakfast, bearing little relation to the self-administered praise in the literature. Cheap sliced bread, cheap jams; no cafetieres of coffee as promised (and when the single jug of coffee ran out it was not refilled). Eventually cooked breakfast was offered and served by a person who may not have had training in hospitality. It was microwaved into leather and frankly I do not believe the assertions about the high quality of the ingredients, although it was difficult to tell. I may have hit them at a bad time, but I shan't take the risk again. It was a poor place to stay and poor value.
