An good visit
Reviewed By StueeeeRecently spent 2 nights, midweek, in the low season (January). Very well situated in the town near the railway station (But very little noise or traffic) and handy for a walk around town. A lovely welcome from the Proprietors for whom nothing was too much trouble. They would remove covers from pool if we wanted to swim had all local info to hand and laid out a lovely buffet breakfast for us each morning. Dining room was closed so we had to eat out each night with varied success (see other reviews). Something we were not aware of before arriving was that the ski-bus to the Sancy ski area, although stops just outside, DOES NOT RUN on weekdays low season so it was a short drive to Le Mont-Dore to connect with that. Not a great issue though. We loved the small pool and Jacuzzi and the charm of the hotel although it was lacking in atmosphere as we appeared to be the only guests there midweek. Maybe the town is more lively in Summer?

The Hôtel de l'Aviation at La Bourboule has been in the same family since 4 generations. Ideally situated at the entrance of the well known Parc Fenestre, only 300m from the Thermal Baths and 200m from the center, there is no need to take your car. Down the road, you will find a large choice of shops, cafés and restaurants. In winter, near to the main ski resorts but far enough away from agitation, our establishment offers tranquility in a cosy atmosphere. At your disposal, an indoor heated swimming pool with massage sprays, a play area ( billiard, baby-foot, table tennis and video games), fitness room, saloon/bar and private garage. WIFI connection throughout the hotel.
A quiet Hotel
Reviewed By DentaltouristI'm not sure if we were the only residents for this one night stay in July. Saw the reception staff briefly on arrival and only saw the cleaner after that. Reception closes at 8pm as do most of the restaurants in La Bouboule. Room was of a good size and clean, TV and free WiFi. Couldn't seem to get the WiFi working but we were only there for a short while so never mentioned it. (would have been difficult as there was no staff around). Room was on the 3rd floor and thankfully there was a lift. If you are at all claustrophobic then take the stairs. Just a little way up the hill from the main town but close enough. Parking was available but at extra cost. We parked on the street at the side of the hotel.

Old world and convenient
Reviewed By Bill HShort stay in the Auvergne at end of September, this hotel is convenient for the town of Bourboule - just a 5 min walk, and is very reasonably priced. We had a comfort room at front of hotel and although you couldn't describe it as luxurious it was certainly comfortable. Hotel looks as though its recently been updated (to a budget) and carpeting looked new as did the beds and paintwork. Everything worked and was clean and rather quaint hotel looks as though it was once very grand but the crowds have now gone away. The hotel staff were always helpful and on hand, the lady on reception spoke pretty useful English . La Bourboule is an old spa town that looks past its best, obviously not the destination it was 25 years ago, the cable car shut in 2012 and several buildings appeared abandoned, however we weren't there to see the town we were there to see the countryside and the volcanoes - there was certainly spectacular scenery within a 30 min drive including Puy de Sancy and Puy de Dome. I know this was the off-season but I never quite worked out the hotel restaurant / bar, I was never sure that it was open but we always ate in the town and there was a variety of restaurants available there although most seemed to shut early (c. 21:00)

Reviewed By les-buftonBeware the web site is very misleading the parking is free on the street if you can find a space. Room was dark seedy and needed major refurbishment the plaster was coming off wall shower was dirty, thankfully the restaurant was closed along with the bar.

A classical and pleasant french hotel in a charming small spa town in the core of Auvergne.
Reviewed By GNT1203We’ve been there with my wife and two daughters for a night stop during a ling car journey. The hotel is very clean and neat. Nothing really fancy but all the basics in a good standard. There is even a swimming pool! We also had a very nice dinner with very local ans sourced ingredients, it was not cheap but it was good. The continental breakfast was with high french standards. We will come back when needed for sure.

Reviewed By ManiDani521534The major issue with the room is the state of the ceiling. There are cracks and holes. The painting of the room really needs a remake. I did not find the staff to be particularly friendly. Maybe it is due to the barrier of the covid masks... Otherwise, the breakfast was good (real croissants & excellent cheese), my kids enjoyed the swimming pool and Auvergne nature is really beautiful (volcanos, waterfalls,...)

Lovely owners and family friendly.
Reviewed By MichgarnWe stayed in this hotel for one night on our way home from the south west. The owners were super friendly and helpful letting us store our bikes and buggy in the hotel. The room was clean and roomy and a baby cot, changing mat and toddler toilet seat were supplied. The decor is a little dated but this was part of the charm of the hotel. The breakfast was very generous and a wide range of food was available. We would definitely stay here again.
