Duke of Gordon Hotel

The Duke of Gordon Hotel is situated in the Town of Kingussie in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park. The hotel was originally a Coaching Inn built in the mid 19th century as a horse changing stop for coaches traveling between Perth and Inverness. The hotel was extended several times during the 20th century to the building you see today. The hotel is a traditional style Highland Hotel offering the comfort of a country house but with modern amenities. The hotel was used as a filming location for the BBC Series 'Monarch of the Glen' from 2000 to 2005. The Clan Macpherson Gathering has been held at the Duke of Gordon every August since 1938. The hotel is a popular wedding venue and many family events have taken place in the Ballroom. All guest rooms are ensuite with flat screen Televisions, Direct Dial Telephone, Hospitality Tray and WiFi throughout the building. Ceud mìle fàilte (a hundred thousand welcomes)

Just stayed 2 nights at this lovely hotel with my husband and family. Food was absolutely gorgeous, I had haddock on first night and salmon on the second and both were so good. Throughly enjoyed our starters and desserts. Powerful shower, one of the best, home from home. Also, a very comfortable bed. Enjoyed driving around the local area and seeing the sights. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone having a trip to the Cairngorm National Park.

Comfy Bed in Great Location

Reviewed By yycyycyyc

I stayed here a couple of nights and had a pleasant experience. The room was a good size, and the bed very comfy. The bathroom was fine, with a shower rather than a bath. Breakfast was very good, not included in the price, but well worth the extra -- you do need to choose from the menu the night before. Friendly, helpful staff. There is off-street parking, and is walking distance from the station, if travelling by train, and Avondale is also on Bike Route 7. The building's layout is a little strange; an old extension seems to have robbed it of a grand entrance hallway, but that's a minor quibble.

Don't Bother!

Reviewed By JoH700

Whilst the food was adequate, it bore no resemblance to the on-line menu and the choice was very limited. Having booked a table for 7pm, we were annoyed to find we were unable to order dessert as the kitchen had already closed - at 7:45. They couldn't even be bothered to warn us that would be the case. The waitress was more interested in watching the pool match taking place in the bar area than serving the guests in the dining room. The gentleman on the next table ordered a pint of Doom Bar, which was "served" by the can, but rather than being poured, the girl brought him a glass with the can balanced inside it - no tray - and hardly hygienic! When he asked for another later on, he was told they hadn't got any more. We certainly won't be eating there again and the other two couples dining whilst we were there were equally dissatisfied!

TWO MONTH OLD BREAD FOR BREAKFAST? YUMMY YUMMY. NOT IN MY TUMMY

Reviewed By PippyLongstocking63

This hotel is a disgrace. No staff on site, a "key cafe" that malfunctions repeatedly for me and other guest. No advance warning that the restaurant is closed and that you will get bread dated best before 23 February with some stale cereals, old horrible looking butter, and a scrape of jam that would have Oliver Twist expire from hunger. Add to that; no towels in room, exposed electrical wiring in the bathroom and a broken kettle, a couldn't give a damn attitude when I informed the hotel that I had been on a training course where a participant had tested positive for covid and the end result is a hotel that is greedy, lazy and duplicitous. DO NOT STAY THERE. THERE ARE BETTER NEAR BY

Nothing short of fabulous. Greeting upon arrival, warm. Room decor and comfort awesome. Communication excellent. Natural beauty of surrounding grounds exquisite. Dinner off the charts presentation, flavor and creativity. Breakfast ditto from dinner. Joe & Sarah miss nothing. Even fresh squeezed orange juice and fine Italian coffee at breakfast.

Excellent hosts, great location and delicious breakfast!

Upon our arrival chef/owner, Des popped out of the kitchen, introduced himself, inquired our names (remembering all 3 of us) and insisted on taking our bags to our room. Des showed us where we could park, insisted that we use the bar fridge and directed us around the town. Hotel co-owner, Sinead greeted us just as warmly. They brought out the flat screen so that we and the other guests could watch the World Cup Scotland vs. Ukraine. We shared a few pints, and a few tales. Breakfast we ordered the night before was cooked and served by Sinead; the portions were generous and cooked perfectly. You will be hard pressed to find a better Scottish breakfast. The Osprey has been recently and tastefully refurbished, the beds are the best that I have slept on during my travel in years. I have been in hospitality business for over a decades, a restaurant owner, former chef at the Waldorf=Astoria, and other fine establishments in NYC and abroad. Des and Sinead are wonderful, genuinely warm and gracious proprietors and hosts. I (my family) look forward to returning to Scotland again very soon if only to stay at the Osprey Hotel to enjoy some more great food and good times. These people treat you right and will easily exceed your expectations. Thank you both and see you soon.

Small room, no lift, breakfast not included

Reviewed By kiltedladdie

Looks ok from the outside and welcome was friendly. Off street parking but went downhill after that. Breakfast not included but ad I saw said it was. No lift, fortunately we're fit enough to carry our stuff up a couple of flights. Tiny room, one of the smallest I've ever spent the night in. Shower takes an age to get hot water, in fact I though it was broken and told the receptionist. Sink tap broke next day. Would not go back
