Great option

Freshwater apartments are fantastic option for your stay in Kununurra. They are reasonably new and neat and very clean. Our group of friends stayed in a three bedroom apartment which had plenty of room and good kitchen facilities. The large pool is a great way to recover from the heat of the day. The common areas such as the barbecue and the laundry were also clean and tidy and in good working order. I would definitely stay here again.

Enjoyable stay at The Pearle

Despite some of the below negative reviews, my family and I had a lovely stay at The Pearle! We stayed in a villa and had plenty of room with a nice little pool for our toddler to splash around in. Marcus (who I dealt with prior) was lovely and did everything he could to put my mind at ease regarding the negative reviews on safety and break ins. We never felt unsafe and felt that the staff were friendly and accommodating. Check-in and check-out were seamless. Only thing I’d recommend would be to expand the cafe menu and maybe think about creating a dinner menu for the guests, as if you don’t have a car it’s quite a walk in the dark at night to/from any restaurants. We had rented a car so it didn’t effect us but definitely felt for some of the other couples/ families we drove past in the dark making the trek!

Why did I give it a rating of 1, only because there is nothing lower. Let’s start with the positive, the bed was clean and comfortable. That where the good ends. Cleanliness was of a low standard. Soap scum on the shower screen. Dead insect trapped under the glass of the coffee table. Toenail or fingernail clippings on the floor. Filthy curtains. Dirty dishes in the cupboard. Public areas could be cleaner. Only 1 teabag in the room and no coffee, though some was made available at reception upon request. Reception staff seemed shocked when asked to order a taxi. After about 10 minutes told us no taxis available. Took one phone call by my wife to get taxi there within a few minutes. Staff were generally surly, though that obviously is subjective. We only continued to stay because we could not secure a bed elsewhere in town and it was only two nights.

Pinctada McAlpine House

As soon as you step through the modest white picket gate onto a path sprinkled with frangipani flowers and shaded by towering palm trees, you know instantly that you are entering a special place of relaxation and solitude. The former home of Lord McAlpine, Pinctada McAlpine House has been meticulously converted into a private 8-room lodge - perhaps 'oasis' is a more fitting description. A subtle blend of historical charm and modern facilities makes McAlpine House the perfect place to reawaken the spirit. Wide open verandahs and polished timber floors complement a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere which slowly extinguishes your sense of time. We encourage you to make our boutique lodge your home for as long as you stay. By day, the atmosphere is shaped as much by the lush tropical gardens and exotic birds as it is by the personalised attentive service. At night, enjoy a moment of calm by the turquoise waters of a pool lit by a myriad of tiny lights. World class resort? Private retreat? Luxury guest house? McAlpine House defies classification, and that is precisely why it is such a unique place to completely rejuvenate your soul. With just eight rooms - each with its own style and private outdoor escape, a sense of space and escape is blended with a feel of intimacy and serenity. Create your own world among the original artwork and decor reflecting the unique colours and textures of the Kimberley, or step outside to explore the wonder, beauty and contrasts of Broome's azure waters, sweeping white beaches, distinctive red earth and eclectic culture.

McAlpine House is like staying in your best friends house for a few days

What a charming little place to stay during our Broome experience. McAlpine House is just 8 spacious rooms with a communal dining room for breakfast. Nothing is flash about McAlpine House. The gardens are slightly unkept, the occupants of the large aviary noisy, but the homeliness and care that our host Marilyn and trusty off-sider Ronaldo showed towards us was beyond reproach. And how good are communal dining rooms. Open air, beside the pool with a delicious home-cooked breakfast each morning, how could you not fully relax and have a chat with your fellow travellers. Everybody has a story to tell....

We had free pick up from the Airport which was good then to our surprise on arrival not sure of the lady that served us but she gave us a free upgrade which was a larger room and a little further away from the Bar Area. As they have the Afl Grand Final on we went to watch it on the big screen ,no guessing it was packed and very when behaved crowed mostly tourists I think, we have a meal which was cheap and lot bad which followed by many drinks all cold and cheap. we could still hear some noise in our room when we retired to our room but that finished around 12 pm .the next morning we had Breakfast which was also included agind much better than I thought .Overall I would full recommend stay here.

The young multitasking staff were an inspiration but something seems to be lacking at a higher level. Firstly, the resort ( a description which is pushing the envelope), failed to collect a busload of guests from the airport. While understandably the rooms were not ready for us early arrivals, we were advised by a person who appeared to be in charge that an SMS wold be sent as soon as the rooms became available. No SMS was sent and although we saw that our allocated room was indeed ready, we were unable to access it until 2 pm. No lunch was available (we made allowances for the fact that Hospitality is suffering from a lack of staff) and no suggestions were made eg that we were in walking distance of town and a pleasant park and lake. Instead we were left to "kick our heels". The room was large and clean but there were indications of a lack in maintenance, with a large hole in the net curtain, a faulty light bulb and hot and cold indicators missing from the shower taps. Minor matters but in total indicating a less than satisfactory situation. The evening meal was good.

Shaded camps are limited due to the loss of our big trees through drought and the grass is dependent on the wet season! But we can guarantee a blanket of stars and sunsets that sooth the soul. Our pool is open for most of the season so come and enjoy a cool swim and a delicious meal in our restaurant.

Our tour guide Paul told us we had to stop here for afternoon swim and drink. What an oasis in the Kimberley for the young and old. The owners Mark and Bronwyn are the most friendly genuine people you will meet. The pool is amazing, the camp grounds are fantastic. Mark and his wife have only just taken possession and are making awesome changes. The little bar which serves locally brewed beers that were fantastic and refreshing. We stayed for dinner and Mike the Chef is talented and the food was second to none. The dumplings were light and amazing, the wontons were crispy and so tasty. The mains we had was the salted port belly. It was melting in the mouth words cannot describe the taste. It was the best port belly ever had. They also offer a local indigenous tour guide run by Alfie that should not be missed as he is a character and has a wealth of local knowledge. It is not far from Gibb River turn off. The road in was really good. If you miss this place you are missing one of the true joys of the Kimberley. 5 stars does not do it justice.
