It's one of the most typical business hotels in downtown Kamaishi. There are several other business hotels, and although they are a little further away from Kamaishi Station compared to those hotels, it's still only a 15-minute walk from Kamaishi Station. It's also easy to find as it's located along the main street in the city center. The configuration and size of each room, the maintenance of cleanliness, and the responsiveness of the staff are on par with standard business hotels. However, the hotel offers a free "Kamaishi Ramen" service to its guests for a limited time during the night, but I do not recommend the use of this service at all. Not only are there many guests using this service, but there are only one or two staff members (as far as I could see) in charge of the service (cooking and serving). Moreover, not only do you have to wait to enter the restaurant on the first floor, but it can take more than 30 minutes before your dish is served even after you are seated. If that is the case, I would recommend using one of the restaurants or taverns in the vicinity of the hotel.

This is a brand new hotel that opened up a little over a year ago right next to the Kamaishi train station. On the other side is the Kamaishi fish market (called Sunfish) and souvenir market (Sea Plaza). There is also a rental car lot in front of the train station and a Lawson's convenience store a few yards away. Beyond the Sunfish market is a Maiya Supermarket, drugstore (more like Walgreens, but apparently doesn't dispense prescription drugs), K's Denki (like a Best Buy for electronic goods). Behind Ki's Denki is the post office, so lots of conveniences in the hotel's surrounding areas. The location looks industrial, but it is about a 2 minute walk to the town's center (other side of the Kasshi river). The rooms were fairly spacious, considering this is Japan. The double twin we stayed in might be like a room in a Motel 6 in the US (but a lot cleaner and nicer). The room had an empty mini fridge, hot pot, complimentary tea, small area to hang clothes, but no closet, minimal drawer space (a small desk drawer and a small cupboard like space under the luggage rest). WiFi was good, although you have to keep signing in each time you turn on your computer/device (or I had to). Service was excellent, but there seemed to be only one English speaker amongst the staff who was only there during certain (peak?) hours. Most of the clientele are Japanese citizens, few foreigners. The breakfast buffet was nice, and offered many local seafoods such as mekabu (seaweed), shirasu (tiny white fish) and soba noodles, as well as some Western foods such as scrambled eggs, pastries, salad, potatoes. The menu items changed slightly each day. It wasn't the best breakfast buffet I'd ever had in Japan, but it was filling, freshly made and a great start to my day! The lobby area is spacious, and is adjacent to the restaurant, which seems to serve lunch and dinner, too. There are a few coin laundry facilities on the 3rd and 5th floors (tip: soap is already provided in the machines, but the dryer isn't very efficient and I needed to run the separate dryer cycle two times to get my cotton t shirts dry). There is brand spanking new bath on the top floor (often translated 'public bath', osento are communal bath areas for use by guests and not the general public!). There are indoor and outdoor baths. The outdoor bath has a lovely mini bamboo garden. I have stayed at several hotels in Kamaishi, and this is probably the town's best.

My dad and I stayed at 宝来館 over night as part of our Tohoku area road trip. This hotel is located right across the street from the Nebama Beach in Kamaishi City. As pointed out in other reviews, this hotel was damaged in the 2011 earthquake and tsunami and it truly warmed my heart to see that they've done significant rebuilding from the disaster and continue to operate a great ryokan. The room was quiet, clean and had a nice view of the ocean. I especially enjoyed the amazing seafood dinner and breakfast, sashimi was very fresh and scallops were to die for. I woke up early and took a walk along the beach. Watching the waves in such a beautiful serene environment almost made me forget how powerful and destructive natural forces can be. On a hill right behind the hotel (back of the parking lot) is an evacuation path that local people use in events of tsunami. We happened to be there on 9/1 (national disaster preparedness day in Japan) and participated in climbing up the hill via evacuation routes and heard from the local Red Cross staff that this very path saved many lives on March 11th 2011. I’d love to return to this hotel when I’m back in the area again and continue to support the recovery and rebuilding efforts of Tōhoku!

. . . is pointless because I stayed here in 2004 maybe, and obviously, with the tsunami and all, things have changed a lot. However allow me to reminisce . . . When I stayed here, the hotel had some kind of 'ryokan' package for 13,600 yen, including dinner and breakfast at the hotel restaurant. For that price, I got a huge, incredible Japanese dinner, something like an 8-course meal, with everything to eat but the kitchen sink. After this meal, that was the FULLEST I have ever been in all my travels around Japan, which includes fancy ryokans I've stayed in and even the buffet meals at the Qyukamura chain. Totally stuffed to the gills! I recall an elegant sushi platter with artful sushi designs, grilled scallop in the shell, a dish with oysters prepared in various ways (including raw in the shell), the omnipresent nabe, whole grilled saury (which the area is famous for), another fish dish, and I forget the rest, but the dishes kept coming together with an elegant dessert, all the while being served hand and knee by a waiter and waitress. Quite an unexpected delight on the trip. It's quite rare for a business hotel to have a restaurant that can serve dinner, much less the likes of this spread. My compliments to the chef. From the more recent reviews, at least the hotel survived the tsunami, since it was located at an upland area well in from the coast, but the lavish dinners are no more.

の利用には値段も安く、市中心部へのアクセスもいいのでおすすめです。 2階を利用しましたがトイレが1階にしか無かったのが少し不便
