Lankavatara Ocean Retreat is a boutique hotel located in Kahandamodara, on one of endless pristine beaches of Sri Lankan Deep South, far from the crowds and noise of major tourist destinations. Our clean and spacious rooms with exquisite design all feature stunning ocean view.
Pros: - The hotel is just beside the sea and you can walk on the soft sandy beach in less than 50 steps from your room! It is amazing! - The rooms are clean and nicely decorated. - Staffs are super helpful and very kind. Note: Be sure to take the bird watching tour early in the morning, which starts at 5:50 AM. It's an amazing boat ride in a very beautiful pristine environment. I highly recommend it even if you don't like the birds!! ---------------------------------- Cons: - The room has no window to open at night for ventilation and enjoying the sound of the ocean. It's only the entrance door that has no mosquito net (mesh screen) and may not be left open after sunset due to insects and mosquitos invasion, but during the day it's fine. - We had a "Partial Ocean View" room, but to be honest, the ocean was not visible at all, even on the balcony of the higher floor, due to the density of trees obstructing the view. - There is no TV in the room, which may sound nice, but you will miss it after 9:00 PM, when you have nothing else to do! :-)

Ceu Ceylon is located amidst the salty lagoon and beautiful private beach in the little town of Kalametiya, Tangalle, south of Sri Lanka. ‘Ceu’ meaning ‘heaven’ in Portuguese, couldn’t be a better name to call this beautifully created homely villa. Furnished with locally made home wear, the villa houses 5 bed rooms; 2 sea view rooms, 2 partial sea view rooms and one partial view deluxe room.
We went to Ceu Ceylon for a family getaway with 3 generations of our family (grandparents, parents, kids) - 7 adults, 4 kids. We booked the entire villa (with access to 4 of the 5 rooms). All in all we had an amazing time. The location was excellent, with a broad beach frontage and a truly pristine beach all to ourselves (Kalametiya beach is very quiet). The pool is the centerpiece and when you are in it, you feel close to the ocean, whilst being right next to those sitting in the verandah. Mayanthi (the owner) was very clear and prompt with her communication - with plentiful information on what to do in the area. 2 highlights were the Kalametiya boat trip (approx Rs.6500 for 4 people) and the late night Rekawa Turtle Safari, which was in season and where we got to respectfully watch giant green turtles laying eggs (Rs.1000 for an international guest, Rs.250 for a local guest). The villa consists of one suite and 4 very similar sized rooms (2 upstairs, 2 on the ground floor). We predominantly used the ground floor - with the living room arranged around a very deep and cosy couch. The suite is very spacious. The other rooms are very comfortable and well sized for a typical double. If you try and make a triple out of a normal room - it would certainly be possible, but wouldn't leave you with much other space. For my infant son there was a very good mothercare travel cot which we were very happy with. We had brought a travel cot with us just in case, but that certainly wasn't needed. One important point to add is that the finishes in the rooms and the bathrooms are to a very high standard, with nothing over the top, with things being muted and tasteful - which we were very happy to both see and enjoy. The meals across breakfast, lunch and dinner were of a good standard. Maybe the one thing that could have improved is the variety of food during lunch - but that was only something we felt on our final day - and it wasn't a big issue. Having taken a peek into the kitchen, you can see that the operation is managed very professionally and the standards are more in keeping with a boutique hotel than a small private villa. As we were a big group, the food could sometimes take a little more time than we anticipated - but that also wasn't an issue, but something to be a little aware of and plan around if having something bang on time is essential for you. The lawns around the villa were fun to play games on with kids - which was an additional treat. Just between the lawn, the beach (we took some beach toys), the pool and some board games (which we took along ourselves), our children had a super time. Last but not least, the staff were tremendously courteous and obliging. Every request was met with a smile and a desire to accommodate. All in all, I would highly recommend Ceu Ceylon. It is a comfortable highway journey away from Colombo / the Airport and for a 3 night stay, it proved to be a lovely getaway.

You can also visit the YALA or Uda Walawe National Parks which is a couple of hours away. The perfect little getaway from the hustle & bustle of the city to Rest & recouperate and to recharge those Batteries of a Busy life.
Taragala Chalets in Kalamatiya nicely isolated us from the busy world, although it was not far from the main road. The time really stopped for us though the two nights we spent there were too short a stay to enjoy the full spectrum the venue provides. The serene beauty of the lagoon from the resort with no sighting of a single man-made structure, the diverse bird-life, Taragala rock outcrop, clean and white Kalametiya bearch, Freddiie the peacock, huge mud crabs who come out in the night to watch us, comfort at the charming chalet with all necessary amenities and traditional Sri Lankan food with a unique southern touch, when added with Saman's warm hospitality made Taragala Chalets an amazing experience to our family... I spent a week here and absolutely loved it. It felt like a hidden gem, tucked on what feels like a secret beach on the beautiful south coast of Sri Lanka, close enough to all the places I'd heard of but off the tourist track to ensure peace, rest, retreat and unspoilt nature. There are only a couple of other small hotels on this vast stretch of beach. The first thing that took my breath away was the amazing view from my room and from the whole hotel over the bluest sea and gorgeous coconut trees. I could look at that view for years! The pool is refreshing, really well-kept and a good size. The food is delicious, especially the Sri Lankan specialties -- curry and rice, fresh fish, and egg hoppers for breakfast. I had wonderful massages in the Ayurvedic spa, which were some of the best I've had in the world, given with so much care and kindness. And the staff overall were simply amazing, going out of their way to help and make the whole stay special and joyful. I'd return in a heartbeat!
