Great location and amazing staff
Reviewed By 75WalshWe stayed at this hotel for 4 nights with another family (we were 10 people total). POSITIVES: JACK! The front desk clerk Jack was AMAZING! He went out of his way to help our families with everything. His English is quite good (although he thinks it is not, it is very good). He made calls for us, arranged trips and tickets for us. Simply amazing. Extremely helpful. His mother also helped us during meal time with dietary requirements/ preferences (plant based diet, gluten free). They really and truly helped so much. The hotel is located next to the bus station that takes you to Mr Huangshan, very convenient. There are many Chinese style restrauants around (nothing western if that is what you crave). Hongcun ancient town is about 45 minute drive away and worth the visit. Rooms are big and beds comfortable (we had the Family Friendly rooms). NEGATIVES: Not many, only the smoking in the hotel lobby and restrauant (even though no smoking signs are posted), but staff were helpful to ask guests to not smoke when we asked. Rooms were not cleaned daily, only water/towels replaced and garbage changed.

Traditional and well located
Reviewed By Sue DFortunately we were with a guide when we arrived in Huangshan or else we might have struggled to find this hotel as it is located down a dark narrow alley. It sounds ominous but felt quite safe. The little wooden doorway opened into a small courtyard and suddenly you felt you had been taken back in time. The whole place was lovely. If you want to stay in a place that has a traditional feel to it, then come here. The room itself was furnished in old dark Chinese furniture including a boxed in double bed. Maybe not for the claustrophobic though! There's no view and it's a bit odd having glazed panels to the ensuite bathroom, but that aside, it was great. Just a few minutes walk to Old Street as well. Breakfast was a tasty bacon sandwich.

Comfortable place to wait for trains from the old Huangshan station
Reviewed By sielI don’t usually review hostels if I don’t sleep there but in this case I was so glad I found this hostel that I’m going to do it anyway: I had booked a (K) overnight train from the old Huangshan station, everyone presumes you need Huangshan north high speed railway station. Last bus there (i.e. to the high speed station) from Tangkou town went at 18.00 (also at 17.20 and 17.40) for the north station I took local bus 21 which connects both train stations, takes quite a while. Area around the old train station was pretty dark and deserted, I was very happy I spotted Koala hostel where I spent a couple of hours, had a nice curry dinner and some beers in their comfortable bar/common area. The experience on the K trains was rather bad: unfriendly staff and very dirty.

Value for money but..
Reviewed By cmhedenSince the price is low your expectations should also be low. The rooms are in dire need of renovation. In our room the carpet came loose, one shower cabinet door was missing and the bathroom had old grime. Another of our rooms had ants in the bathroom. The location is good but the traffic noise can be disturbing. The wifi worked in the corridor but not in our rooms. Pros: Cheap Good location Fairly big rooms Cons: Worn down Noisy In conclusion the hotel is OK to spend a night in but expect it to be very worn and slightly dirty. And bring your own toilet paper...

Reviewed By hfbooWe are very happy with our decision to stay at Banyan Tree instead of the mountain top. The hotel is clean, well maintained and quiet, a great getaway from the crowds. Breakfast spread is excellent and the food quality is consistently good throughout our stay. Would definitely choose Banyan Tree again if we ever revisit Huangshan.

Disappointing in all areas.

The whole place was very run down and although the massage was reasonable, the cost of ¥288 did not reflect the ill-maintained facilities. The spa itself is clearly in need of a substantial overhaul as it does not reflect the premium nature of the CP brand.

Reviewed By jennyp574Checkin quite late and need to rush off early in the morning as we are with the group tour. Room is clean and cozy. We get to catch a glimpse of the area the next day before we set off again. Nice garden view, very cooling weather too.

We are located in the town of Tangkou and 5 minutes walk to the bus transfer station.There is a river at the door and here you can see the lotus peak.We don't offer dinner and we can pick you up within the town.I'm sorry we don't accept pets.
Great Stay in Tangkou Town
Reviewed By deanosaur89The hotel rooms have a beat layout, are clean and quite comfy. We had a nice big shower, big comfortable bed and a projector! We had a balcony that was underused as it was kind of chilly in December but the heat was enough. The lobby/restaurant/bar area was quite inviting but a little bit drafty. They only turned one overhead heater on at a time and understandably both in the evening. Highlight was how accessible it was and the friendly hotel staff. We were near a bus station that took us to the Huangshan Hot Springs and we were the first stop in Tangkou Town coming back from our Huangshan Mountain hike. The ladies at the front desk were very helpful and helped contact the hot springs to make sure our visit there would be hassle free and arranged a ride for us to the bus station where we could buy tickets and get up to Huangshan Mountain. The staff even sat with us for half an hour with a ma top help us plan our hike! The breakfast at the hotel was pretty good and there are quite a few Chinese style restaurants and shops nearby. Get snacks at the supermarkets as the food on the mountain is brought up by hand and can be two to three times the price it is in town. I would also recommend bringing your HDMI adapters to hook up phones or computers to the projector in room.

Reviewed By Global43163179566It is the additional daily charge and half services comparing to the past affecting this rating. Understand the resort has been hit by Covid-19 impact with less guests. Because the resort is near railroad and can hear train noise occasionally. Staff are friendly, flexible, and tentative to our needs. It is still a rewarding trip.
