Fif and Ann Buckingham bought this 16th Century Hotel in August 2019 when the building was in need of some serious love and attention, as was the reputation of its services. A complete refurbishment programme was initiated, which has led to high-class accommodation and a growing reputation for food and drink. The intention is to become known for vegetarian and vegan food as well as cask-conditioned real ales. Breakfast is included with room bookings and food is served in the restaurant every day of the week. The ethos of the establishment is to provide a stimulating, creative, and welcoming place for people to go where everyone is equal. The owners welcome all visitors to Hartland Peninsula's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and are happy to give walkers a lift to and from the nearby coastal path if required. Free parking is available onsite and local buses are available to Bideford and Bude.
We had a nice clean room. Dinner was good, they obviously have a decent chef in he evenings. Reasonably priced bar, Breakfast not the best, overcooked cheap sausage, tough bacon. But for £80, not a bad deal

Awarded Best B&B 2018 by ’Taste of the West’ for hospitality and great food, Hartland Mill B&B is establishing itself as the place to stay while you explore the Hartland Peninsula, north Devon and the north Cornish coast. Situated next to Hartland Abbey, 15 minutes’ walk from the village and 5 minutes’ drive from the South West Coast Path and Hartland Quay, there is plenty to see and do right on the doorstep. Our rooms are stylishly decorated with new, contemporary bathrooms. Our comfy beds are made with crisp White Company bed linen and the best quality hypoallergenic squishy pillows and duvets. So, after a long walk or a day exploring, kick back, have a soak in the bath and sink into bed. Our breakfast menu has lighter daily specials as well as cooked (and veggie cooked) breakfast each day. All of our jams are homemade as is our bread which is baked daily. Coffee in the dining room is fresh bean to cup and we source as much as we can from our fabulous local south west suppliers.
We had a very warm friendly welcome with tea and muffins at Harltand Mill and the hosts James and Cathy were both really attentive and helpful throughout. The breakfasts were creative with a variety of options from day to day, and vegetarian options for breakfast were very much appreciated. The B&B itself was very quiet, adjacent to a running water, so a lovely setting and property. Cleanliness throughout was really valued. Excellent walks around the coastline are within walking distance/a short drive, and close enough to Clovelly, Hartland Quay. Farmer's Arms was an excellent gasro pub. All we could manage in the two days/nights there. We left with more to do and explore.

Philham Parlour is a beautifully detached converted barn, well-appointed and offering spacious accommodation. It offers a secure private courtyard garden with an outdoor seating area and access to a large paddock. Situated in a small hamlet and overlooking the rolling countryside. The Cottage and The Studio will be available from mid 2022. Please check the website for further details.
What an amazing find! We booked this based on location for our itinerary and the photos. Photos don’t do it justice. Mark and his wife are the perfect hosts. The room was fantastic and the huge private bathroom good enough to spend hours in with a shower and slipper bath. The stay was fantastic value. A hearty breakfast with fresh eggs from their own henhouse full of very handsome chickens. We would like to keep this a secret for ourselves but you simply must put this lovely B&B on your favourites list. Simply outstanding! We’ll be back…..

A courtyard of luxury cottages with glorious sea views. The cottages are located on the tip of the Hartland Peninsula in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. Charmingly situated they have glorious sea views looking north to Lundy Island and west over the Atlantic. They are set in the midst of rolling farm land that slopes gently to the coast. In the distance the stone tower of St. Nectan's Church rises above the picturesque village of Stoke.. All around is peace and tranquillity. The sea, Berry Cove and the North Devon Coastal Path are a brief walk away along a quiet single track road. Hartland, an unspoilt North Devon village, is a mile away. The immediate area is ideal for walkers and cyclists with a maze of footpaths and single tract lanes on the doorstep. The cliff top walks are simply stunning and lead you to secluded cove after cove.Ideal for couples and families. In the light of the Covid 19 Pandemic we have changed our booking policy substantially. We now operate a quarantine period of a week between each booking of a cottage and as a result half of our cottages are available one week and the other half are available the following week. Because of this we are no longer accepting short breaks (i.e. the minimum booking period is one week). We have identified an excellent local butcher and an excellent local greengrocer who will deliver direct to the cottages. These deliveries, together with four national supermarkets who also deliver to Downe, mean that guests can holiday on a "Covid Safe" basis and maintain clear social distance at all times during their holiday. The area is fabulous for coastal walks and days can be spent even in the height of the season encountering very few strangers.
After the confinement of the recent Covid era it was truly wonderful to head back to North Devon and spend a week at the gorgeous Downe Cottages in Hartland. The cottages are exemplary and offer every modern facility, there is even a gym if the rigours of the South West coastal path haven't worn you out at the end of the day. The location is superb with countryside all around and wonderful views out across the Bristol Channel to Lundy Island.

Within an area of outstanding natural beauty, Clouds at Stoke is just 10 minutes walk from the southwest coastpath above Hartland Quay. Our spacious accommodation comprises: a suite with cast iron double ended slipper bath; and in the garden a detached studio with wood burner, kitchenette and double ended bath. Both rooms have large walk in showers and are available with super king or twin beds.
We have just returned from a stay at this wonderful Bed and Breakfast and we have to say it was superb! After a long, windswept walk along the coast path , we received a warm welcome from Claire and Paul, and a delicious home made cream tea. The room was beautifully appointed, with lovely extra touches, such as fresh milk in a fridge concealed in the wall! Home made biscuits, and a variety of teas and coffees were provided, and comfortable chairs. The beds were also really comfortable, and the bath was so quirky- fuschia pink and very luxurious! The breakfast the next morning was absolutely wonderful. We could request what we wanted from a long list of options, and the cooked breakfast was done to perfection. We also had a lovely granola, yoghurt and berries, fresh fruit, home made apple cake and croissants, home made breads and marmalades, juice and cereals. We were so impressed! Paul and Claire are a lovely couple, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. It was close to some beautiful coastal walks, and we have already decided we shall be returning again to explore more of the area, and sample some more of the wonderful home-cooked food!

A cosy, countryside cluster of 5 self-catering cottages converted from old stone farm buildings. Close to Hartland Abbey and a wonderfully wild stretch of the South West Coast Path. Very child and dog-friendly, with Atlantic views from the picnic/play area, pet animals, hot tub, sauna, woodburners, private outdoor spaces and barbecues. Cottages sleep from 2 to 6 people Short breaks available out of peak season
The cottages are in the remote and peaceful Hartland Peninsula in North Devon. The owners were so friendly and helpful throughout our stay, advising us of all the best local walks and pubs. They provided excellent walking maps of the local areas. The cottages are about a 20 minute wooded walk to the village of Hartland, with its shops, cafe and 3 pubs (we loved The Hart Inn). The South West Coastal path is about a 45 min walk away (or 10 mins in car to Hartland Quay). The scenery on the coastal path is stunning. It’s quite tough walking, but worth the effort for the views. Clovelly is only a 20 minute drive away (beware of the slippery rocks, my wife slipped and broke her ankle ?) Any trail runners, I managed some great runs from the cottage to Hartland Quay, then up to Hartland Peninsula and back the cottage (around 7 miles of hills and views) Booking again for 2022

Fosfelle Cottages are the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life in our quiet corner of Devon! Based in a converted barn which has been modernised to form a 3 bedroom 2 storey home sleeping 6, a 2 bedroom holiday upper floor apartment sleeping 4 and a 2 bedroom holiday apartment which sleeps 3. All of which are dog friendly! The site is based on the North Devon coast with its dramatic scenery and rural outlook. We have recently taken over the site and would love to welcome you to our home! (as seen on Escape to the Country) Each cottage is self catering with its own kitchen or Kitchenette, living area, Dining area, and shower room(s). We live on a small holding so our Alpacas and Miniature donkeys can be seen roaming in the main paddock most days unless they decide to stay in the enclosure which also houses our Pygmy goats, Chickens and ducks. We also have a Hot Tub, games room and small play area on site.
I can highly recommend staying at Fosfelle. My family was made very welcome, and there is lots for the children to do, including games room, and seeing the donkeys, goats and alpacas! Run by lovely people.

This is a property that goes back 600 years, situated in the village of Hartland next door to the Hart pub which serves exceptionally good food. Hartland is two and a half miles from the coast, and is in the Unesco Biosphere, and an Area of Outstanding Nautural Beauty, with sites of special scientific interest. Beautiful home, with woodblock printmaking studio.
I stayed here with a friend the night before getting the helicopter to Lundy Island from Hartland Point so this B&B was ideally placed. It was the bank holiday just after Christmas, and we arrived late after a long drive down from London, and we arrived to find that Merlyn had forgotten we had booked and was in the middle of cooking dinner. But it didn't matter a bit - Merlyn is very laid-back and friendly, and the rooms were made up so all was fine. The house is absolutely lovely; very old with beamed ceilings and a roaring fire, an Aga and big kitchen table and very tastefully and stylishly decorated rooms. Merlyn is an artist and her beautiful engravings were everywhere in the cottage - I loved the huge picture of the Devon coast in my room which added to the atmosphere. he bed was very comfy, and the room cosy so I slept really well. Breakfast was wonderful, especially the toast made in the Aga from bread from the farmer's market, and Merlyn sat and chatted with us over breakfast so we felt we were part of the family rather than B&B guests. I would not hesitate to recommend this B&B to anyone setting off for Lundy or just exploring this part of the Devon coast.
