I was in this hotel for the second time. The room is very spacious on the floor with carpet and a spacious balloon with clothes dryer. The room was cleaned every day with the possibility of changing towels and bathrobes whenever needed. The difference from the first time I was there was that the food was not as varied as last time.

We had a wonderful dinner at Komlo hotel. The service was friendly, the food was exquisite, the location is good, on the center of Gyula. And the place plays a role in László Krasznahorkai’s novel The Melancholy of Resistance!

Let's face it, a 4 star hotel in Hungary should not live up to too many peoples expectations and the Erkel is no exception to that rule. Let's start with the exterior. It looks like a communist block from the abandoned city of Chernobyl. It is very very outdated, in serious need of some modernisation. How they will achieve that is anyone's guess because it would take the money of The Sultan of Brunei to make those reparations. So don't let the photos fool you. You will be disappointed, as I was. The reception. To be honest it looks quite nice. The member of staff we had checking us in was very good, polite and also spoke 4 languages. Fortunately one of those was English, so I didn't have too many problems there. The rooms. Honestly, Erkel Owner, please look at hotels in other places for even an insight into what a 4 star hotel room should look like. Terribly terribly outdated. Two single beds pushed into one does not constitute a double bed, mini bar does not mean 1 bottle of water and a snickers. The view. It is astonishingly bad. We booked a castle view and even though we were on the 7th floor we still struggled to see past the overgrown trees. Goodness knows what the people on floors 1-6 were thinking if they also booked a Castle View room. Smokers. Beware, there is a strict no smoking policy in this hotel which also includes your balcony. Really?? An outside balcony? No smoking? A nice welcome card awaits you stating that if you smoke on your balcony you get a 150 Euro fine. Nice!! It's an outside balcony for goodness sake, not some enclosed, public space. A lot of people like nothing more than relaxing after a days sightseeing, drinking one of the overpriced mini bar drinks, having a cigarette or cigar, whilst sitting on their balcony looking at the lights of the town glimmering below. That pleasure for smokers is removed from you the minute you step foot in the hotel. The food. Oh god!! Where do i start?? Ummmmm, ummmmm, errrrrrr, ok.....My mum always told me to be honest, so here goes......It's diabolical. The evening meal is truly one of the worst experiences i have ever had. Everything was either cold, undercooked, overcooked, not cooked, piping hot with the risk of serious mouth injury or just plain disgusting. Tables not laid, go find your own cutlery seems to be the general consensus here. The hoards of Rhinoceros sized neanderthals stampeding through the restaurant was a sight you only normally see on nature programs in the Serengeti. You can see their thoughts, "Food, food, food, food" It's like they have been starved for weeks before, which, judging by their sheer body mass, could never have been the case!!! Breakfast is no different, only the hoards are a little more subdued due to the fact that most of them spent the night in the bar drowning their sorrows to escape their meager life reality. The sheer chavness of the place really comes to the forefront here. The thermal baths. They are lovely and one of only two reasons i have not giving this rating a 1. The other being the reception staff. However, judging by the disgusting personal hygiene of some people there, I would hate to think what is lurking in that pool. I think i'm ok. Been back 2 weeks now and nothing itches nor does it burn when i pee so i reckon i dodged the bullet there!!! Check out was relatively simple so again that counts towards my 2 star rating. In summary, would i go back there? Not if it was the last hotel on earth!!! You are better off getting one of the local apartments nearby and eating out at the restaurant Marcus each day. For sure you will have a more relaxing time.

We spent 3 nights in the hotel. The shower was not safe for use mainly for older people. The shower floors were slippery, no shower curtain, water splashing everywhere. After you took a shower the bathroom was mostly looking like a lake.... We requested a shower mat, but we were given instead some rug gripper. Did not work in wet conditions. Breakfast buffet not appropriate for a 4 * hotel. Will look for another accommodation next time.

Good hotel, some reconstrucrion would be needed. It was clean, the food was delicious. The wellness was also fine, with many sauna and pools. It is very close to the Castle and the view is beautiful. The staff was very polite and helpful. Nice place to stay.

A very clean, nice, cosy hotel. The staff is extremely friendly and cool. The dishes are delicious. Rent a bike and enjoy the forest around... The environment is peaceful. The hotel's wellness section is very modest: only a small sauna and a swimming pool, but never mind: the word-famous, excellent spa, sauna oasis and aqua park is in 4 minute walk. :)

The hotel is good considering it is not really near any larger city. The staff were friendly but not overly enthusiastic or welcoming beyond the "hello, how can I help you" but that was enough. The small city is really beautiful and well-kept, only a few popular restaurants which are completely booked it seems, but we got in. As hotels go this was a pleasent stay, we would go baCK.

Good parts: - very nice decorations - good location, close to city center and the baths - ok continental breakfast - the dinner is served at Aqua Hotel at 700m away, but the menu is ok --- Not so good aspects: - dirty pillows (smelling of sweat) - the payment is requested upfront, at arrival - it's the only place where I saw something like this (usually the payment is requested when the guest leaves) - very hot inside - no ventilation in the bathroom - the rooms are around a large courtyard, near an area where people stay, talk and smoke until late in the night - it was hard to get some sleep - very small pillows and hard mattress on the bed - only one towel for each person, for a 5 day stay - crowded breakfast area, no Covid prevention measures or distancing between tables

We had a dinner in this restaurant with my family. Restaurant looks good and seemed clean with a nice garden area. The food: i served beef and it was very 'bloody'; my wife's dish had the whole salt in the world.

The hotel is very close to one of the entrances to the Gyula swimming pools, but also within walking distance to the City center. Rooms are beutiful, bathroom little bit tiny. The food is good, we had half bord, strange thing that breakfast does not include coffee, you have to buy it. There is an issue with air conditioning in the hotel, which is not really necessary în the rooms, but annoying in the restaurant. All in all, I recommend the hotel.
