Lovely as it is, this little country town of less than 8,000 about 75 miles north of Lisbon wouldn’t be on the radar if it weren’t for its most famous citizens: the three shepherd children who, in 1917, saw monthly visions of the Virgin Mary in the Cova da Iria pasture. Today, the site is marked by the Basílica de Fátima, where pilgrims come on the 13th of every month to honor the Virgin and her young visionaries, especially in May and October, when the apparitions originally began and ended.

Founded in the 50’s just outside the Sanctuary, Hotel Estrela de Fátima reopened in 2019 totally renovated. It has, quite possibly, the best location in Fatima - The guests only need to cross the street to have access to the Sanctuary grounds. The interior design was inspired in the region and takes the guests into a singular tranquility state. The rooms have been designed and decorated in tree tones: one warm and fowery (the poppy room), other in soft and tranquil colours with arboreal designs (the tree room), and another inspired by light (the light rooms). The hotel offers a beautiful patio for guests to rest during the warmer seasons. Next to it, there is, also, a small playground for the younger guests. Besides the patio there is a restaurant and a bar. The restaurant operates with buffet meals serving international cuisine with notes of Portuguese culinary. The hotel has free wi-f access, a business corner and a small, eclectic library where a collection of books related to the events that have taken place in Fatima stand out. Since the hotel is right next to the Sanctuary we suggest that our guests should use our garage or public parking.
Hotel estrela is located in front of the Fatima sanctuary. From my room we could hear the bells of the sanctuary and also the mass if we opened the window. Their stuff are helpful and nice. The hotel restaurant serves very good food. The souvenir stores are next door. If I go back to Fatima, I would definitely come back to this hotel. I highly recommend the Hotel Estrela de Fatima.

The Hotel Santa Maria is located in the heart of Fátima, close to the Sanctuary.
The room was very austere - it had the feel of a dorm room. The selection in the buffet dinner was very limited but the chicken was good and tasted home cooked. The breakfast buffet was adequate. The hotel is conveniently located.

Lovely hotel, very quiet and surrounded by nice gardens. Reception and service was exceptionally helpful and well organised. Nice, spacious rooms, beautifully designed, even including a little kitchenette. Not that you would need that with the restaurant serving such wonderful food!

We picked this place based on price and reviews and we were not disappointed. The hotel is super modern, spotlessly clean, great rooms comfy bed - a real 4 star hotel for a price of a 2 star. The staff were very friendly. Highly recommended.

Hotel of new construction. Located next to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima, Mercure Fatima offers a refuge related to the symbolic and spiritual charge of the city. Inspired by the banana tree, which dominates the main avenue of Fatima, it is characterised by a neutral space marked by the tree at its entrance and the different elements of natural light that run through the building. Located in the city centre , it is the perfect place to discover the central area of Portugal and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. The hotel offers parking, restaurant, bar and comfortable and modern rooms with free WIFI
We stayed at this hotel for 1 night, Loved it! Check in was easy and hassle free. The front desk staff was very polite, efficient and friendly. Our room on the 4th floor was spacious and clean. There is a separate shower stall and toilet closet. The room has a mini refrigerator and a safe. The room layout was very modern. Parking underground was free. Checkout was equally easy and efficient. The hotel is right across from the Basilica and sanctuary. An easy walk. There’s a gift shop connected to the hotel. There are a few restaurants and bars around but we ate at the hotel restaurant. The wine and appetizers were good, mainly the mussels. The pasta dish was average. Enjoyed the meal and service. Would highly recommend this hotel when visiting Fatima.

Very happy with our stay here. Helpful and friendly staff from the receptionists to the breakfast staff. Tastefully decorated lobby and very spacious restaurant. There was free open-air parking as well as an underground parking area. Location wise, the hotel is just next to the Fátima bus station and a 5-minute walk to the Marian Sanctuary. Opposite the road is a Pingo Doce supermarket. Burger King and McDonald outlets are within walking distance from the hotel. Our room was comfortable with everything working well (air-con, shower, tv with cable channels and minibar refrigerator). The corridors to the rooms were a bit dark, though, and the protruding glass casings with Portuguese art pieces sticking out at intervals from both sides of the corridor walls are, in my opinion, a safety hazard. Someone who is distracted could very easily walk into one of these. I nearly did! Buffet breakfast was varied, plentiful and delicious. Really appreciated the hot dishes of scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, sautéed sausages and sautéed mushrooms in addition to the normal fare of cold cuts, pastries, bread, cereals, etc. There were also different types of sliced fresh fruits, which was refreshing! During this pandemic, this hotel has really gone the extra mile to ensure the safety of everybody. At check-in, the staff wiped our cards with a disinfectant wipe before returning them to us. The pen I used at the counter was also disinfected. You don’t usually see this level of hygiene care, even in hospitals! Even the tv remote control was wrapped in cling film for easier cleaning! There was hand disinfectant in all the common areas. Breakfast was served by the staff. You just had to tell them what you wanted and they would dish out the food on a new, clean plate. No re-using of plates and no self-service. Hence, the risk of cross-contamination is reduced. Social distancing was practised diligently throughout the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

We had an excellent stay at this hotel a couple of weeks ago. The junior suite we stayed in was so spacious and comfortable! Everything worked well in the room. There was a minibar fridge that we could use (not stocked with minibar items at the moment as part of the ongoing hygiene measures), a kettle and sachets of tea. I would, however, advise the hotel management to apply the same hygiene principles to the drink sachets as they did with the minibar items. Remove them and only give these to the guests upon request. Our tea sachets looked crumpled and well-handled so we didn’t touch them. Depending on the number of guests, breakfast was either a buffet or a pre-ordered meal. We had the opportunity to experience both! Buffet breakfast was great with a lot of variety. There were scrambled eggs, crispy bacon slices, a variety of cheeses and ham, cereals, nuts, yoghurt, hot drinks, vegan packet drinks, different homemade jams, a variety of delicious pastries, different types of fresh bread and freshly sliced fruits (honey dew, kiwi, papaya, orange, etc.). The buffet breakfast was served by the staff. No self-service and no re-using of already used plates for hygiene reasons. Every time we wanted a second serve, the staff would serve the food on a clean plate. This was really such a good move to avoid the serving tongs/ladles coming into contact with used plates and increasing the risk of food cross-contamination!! The pre-ordered breakfast was also very good as it had the same items for guests to order (from a menu list) for breakfast the following day. Location wise, the hotel is around 7 minutes walk from the Sanctuary. The Fátima bus station is a 3-minute walk away and fast food outlets Burger King and McDonald’s are nearby. There is also a Pingo Doce supermarket in the area. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful grounds and a lush, stunning garden that is well worth exploring! There are ample free parking spaces on the grounds. The hotel also has two on-site chapels with the presence of the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. The larger chapel is absolutely stunning!! Sunday Masses (9.00 a.m.) are said here. The other chapel is smaller and very pretty and is used for daily Masses. To be able to attend daily Mass (7.20 a.m. on weekdays) was the highlight for us! Masses were beautiful and spiritually uplifting. Last but not least, the staff! They were exemplary (receptionists, breakfast staff, etc.)! Very efficient, polite, warm and friendly and taking the hygiene measures seriously. My card was wiped with a disinfectant wipe before being handed back to me! I was also given a disinfected pen with which to sign a form! Very nicely done! A beautiful hotel with beautiful chapels, beautiful grounds and beautiful people! Very peaceful and with a good ambience. It is especially good for personal self-retreats. Would stay here again without any hesitation. Highly recommended! Room tip: If staying in a junior suite with a glass divide between the room and the bathroom, bring along a pair of eyeshades because if you sleep on the side of the bed nearest this glass divide, you will be awakened by the light every time your partner goes to the bathroom! :) The blinds of the glass divide don’t block out the bathroom light adequately, unfortunately.
