Unhygienic swimming pool, tired decor in rooms and noisy hotel

Reviewed By vickihodges

Booked this hotel for a mother and daughter get away. My daughter really wanted a hotel with a pool. On check in the room was basic and had signs of wear and tear. It clearly hasn't been cleaned properly as we found a foam ear plug next to the bed and a wine bottle top on floor. After check in we left room to head to the pool as my daughter was excited for a swim. The pool was the reason for booking the hotel. On entering the pool it was full of people and no room to swim so we put goggles on and decided to play instead but when under water we couldn't even see each other through the murky water!! We immediately got out and complained about the hygiene risk of such a filthy pool. We ate out for dinner and breakfast so can't comment on the food but the least time in the room the better for us. It was hardly a place to relax in as the noise levels from hotel and guests was loud. I got no sleep due to the guests next door enjoying their lustful night so loudly it sounded like a porno was on in our room. My daughter had to wear my airpods and listen to music so not to have to be subjected to that noise. The walls are super thin and you can hear every conversation so no privacy for anyone. The guests staying in the room opposite us had a wedding so they were up early at 7:30am opening and slamming doors letting the beautician/ hair dresser/ family in and shouting. I know the hotel have no control over the noise of guests but they do have control over noise of staff, which leads me onto the next point. The noise of drilling and sawing started early on the Friday morning!! We should have been warned if maintenance was planned. I have a video of this but seems you can't unload videos on here. Overall a bad stay and couldn't wait to leave. Hotel staff offered us a free stay due to all the issues but I would never return to this hotel even though it would be free of charge.

Overnight base for a party

Reviewed By Spireitedel

The hotel itself was good, apart from the broken toilet seat. Comfortable bed, nice and quiet and clean. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. The bit that let it down was breakfast. Although nice, the poor chef had been left on his own so he was trying to battle to keep the buffet stocked whilst cooking as well, so we ended up having to wait til everything was stocked up again or what we could pick would have been cold.

Fabulous Sunday night stay with bestie

Reviewed By lorrainej857

My friend and I stayed at the hotel Sunday evening. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by some very friendly receptionists who explained where everything was and gave us information on meal times etc. We met a beautiful vibrant lady called Ester with the most beautiful purple hair. She was so lovely and could not do enough for us throughout our stay. Nothing was too much. We were impressed with all the staff from cleaners to the chef, waiters and spa staff. They were all happy in their work, polite and clearly wnjoying what they were doing. They were all very professional and friendly. We sat in the reception lpunge and a lovely young man came and asked if wr wanted a drink...if i hadbine thing to critisw it wouls be the cost of a gin an Tonic!! I ordered a doubke abd it was quite pricey. However, e enjoyed our stay so much. We had a fabulous 3 course meal with wine..breakfast was great with lovely coffee options and lots of choice. Our room was very clean and comfortable...we will definitely be returning!!! Thanks everyone for making our stay so lovely...

I stayed at this hotel with my sisters and we had 2 rooms. The reception staff was very pleasant, helpful and professional. We arrived about an hour before check in time and were pleasantly surprised as the rooms were ready . Spacious rooms , well maintained and clean . The bed linen etc was also very good . We actually ate dinner at the restaurant and it was freshly made and good value . Breakfast next day was also plentiful. The hotel was quite busy but staff seemed to be working very hard .

Beautiful hotel. Lovely short break

Reviewed By Jaye2001

My husband and I just spent two nights in this hotel after previously having stayed years ago while it was still more of a pub and it was a wonderful experience. The room was nice, spacious and clean. Complimentary breakfast was delicious with plenty of choices for food and drink. This is the first time I have stayed since the new managers took over and it is a completely different place to the chaos it used to be. The lady and gent in charge are both lovely, and couldn’t have been more helpful. I’ve noticed other reviews saying it’s dated and uneven in places but of course there’s going to be uneven parts in a 17th century building! It adds to the quirkiness. It has gorgeous character and a mountain of history which is displayed throughout the building. Right in the town centre with free parking too. Will definitely be back. Thank you for a lovely short break

I didn't stay there myself but my friend was stranded in Dartford and I called to book him a room for the night so he wasn't on the streets, the reservation staff were very helpful and very friendly, my friend said the hotel itself was clean and tidy, so in summary, clean hotel with very friendly and helpful staff members, what more do you want for £25 a night on the outskirts of London, excellent.
