Kinnitty Castle, is close to the picturesque village of Kinnitty, Co. Offaly set beautifully against a backdrop of the Slieve Bloom Mountains. The Castle has a long and turbulent history. Dating originally from 1209, Kinnitty was destroyed and rebuilt not once but twice and yet it retains character and oozes charm. Kinnity is in a great location only 90 minutes from Dublin and is a great stop off point for journeys west or southwards. It is an exceptional place for lovers of good food and the great outdoors.
First of all, this castle is absolutely stunning! I searched many castles before my trip to Ireland and this was one of the most authentic. From the moment we arrived and during our stay the staff were phenomenal. The castle and the room were absolutely stunning and the meals were superb. We had the privilege of a tour and many stories of the castle and property by the amazing Liam. He made our experience absolutely awesome. Thank you so much for everything!!!!

Our room was a good size with a large comfortable bed and a good size bathroom with a wet room, all were very clean, The evening meal menu was a wee bit limited if you were staying more than a couple of nights and the service was a bit slow at peak times, Now the breakfast was very good with an excellent choice of hot and cold fare.

My husband and I loved our stay at the Ardmore. Chris was an amazing hostess! She greeted us warmly and had a fire waiting for us in the sitting room. She also helped us with our dinner plans. She even walked down to the local pubs and called the nearby castle on our behalf. Our room was clean and comfortable with a peaceful view. We enjoyed dinner at the castle and met wonderful people in the pub a short walk from the home. Chris made us a tasty breakfast the following morning that we enjoyed with a view of the garden. The Ardmore is a beautiful home! Our stay with Chris was by far our favorite during our time in Ireland. We will definitely be back!

Arrived to Dooley's on a bank holiday Monday at about 12:30pm. We were seated straight away in a family booth in the bar and given menus. Great selection of food available at decent prices for Birr. I got the Caesar salad and my husband got the wings. He is very picky about wings and he really enjoyed them. The salad was tasty. The kids enjoyed their chicken goujons and chips which were very decent portions. Could not fault the staff who checked in on us twice which was lovely. We got a large jug of miwadi also which was not watered down like in usual places. I'm a regular to Birr but have rarely eaten here and will definitely make this our new place. €30 fed our family of 4 well. Would highly recommend if you're in the area.
