Awesome owners and great place to base yourself

Had a 2 night stay here and our hosts were so accommodating. We had lovely rooms and the place was very clean and tidy. The level of attention was great and they made us feel very welcome and gave us plenty of advice and also tips on things do in the region. I loved the homely feel to the place, a God continental breakfast was provided each morning which started us off well. If you are staying in Clyde or doing the rail trail look up The Workshops. We will be back to stay for sure.

Olivers Central Otago

The stunning stone buildings at historic Olivers began as a general store supplying prospectors during the gold mining boom in the 1860s. However the buildings have been gracefully refurbished and landscaped to provide guests with a boutique hotel accommodation in Central Otago. Breakfast is served in a 115 year old dining room where the aroma of newly baked bread and freshly brewed coffee welcomes you.

Wonderful. Exquisite. This place is just so beautiful. So quiet. So luxurious. The perfect night before starting the rail trail. Euan was the perfect host. And he is a wonderful cook presenting us with the most delicious breakfast. We are planning on being in the same area next year and will certainly be staying again.

Built from 1898 and opened in 1900, Dunstan House is an iconic local historic building situated in the heritage Precinct on the main street of Clyde. It's grand entrance welcomes travellers exploring the regions historic goldfields; discovering the fine wines of Central Otago, or simply looking for a luxurious getaway. Offering boutique accommodation, this heritage hotel features the original elegant kauri wooden staircase which links the living areas and accommodation. A large colonial veranda overlooks the main street of Clyde offering an elevated sunny spot for guests to soak in the atmosphere. Guests find each of our rooms individually decorated, reflecting that Victorian era, while mixing that elegant turn-of-the-century style with modern conveniences and comfort. Eight of the eleven rooms available have had full ensuites fitted, (with some including the original deep baths) while maintaining the historic feel and the same attention to detail and dedication to comfort.

A disappointment

The building is beautiful and its in a great part of town but suitcase racks and hooks to hang clothes would be more use to most travellers than a lovely old dresser, no matter how beautiful. The beds are very comfortable and the radiators brilliant but only our room was warm, not the public downstairs areas. Worst of all was the very basic continental breakfast. An uninspiring selection of cereals and bread although there were black doris plums, albeit tinned.

Very disappointing

We felt the stay was not great and also very expensive for what was delivered. Our room was nice but the sound proofing is non existent, which is very poor in such a recent renovation. The room next door to us had a bath. The couple staying in that room decided to have baths at about 10.30pm and we woken up by the noise of the water running through the pipes in the shared wall. We could even hear them getting in and out of the bath and we were kept awake until about midnight. The traffic noise outside then started very early the next morning, so we had a very poor night's sleep, We were totally underwhelmed by the so called cooked breakfast which consisted of a tiny egg baked with a bit of ham and accompanied by cheap supermarket bread. Very average coffee and cereal offerings at breakfast as well.
