What a charming hotel with beautifully landscaped gardens and offering memorable food experiences
Reviewed By OrderintheHouseMy wife and I travelled China with Wendy Wu on a private 24 day tour in June and July 2018 and how privileged we were to have a 2 night stay in beautiful Chengde in the Hebei province, around 220 kilometres north-east of Beijing. For starters there was hardly a western tourist in the place. However there were thousands of local Chinese travellers enjoying the sheer beauty of this lovely part of their huge country. Feeling like we were the only westerners in town was a real buzz for us. It was great sharing the attractions of the place with the locals. We were thrilled with our accommodation at the Qi Wang Lou Hotel also known as the Chengde Imperial Mountain Resort. The landscaped Chinese gardens throughout the hotel complex are magnificent and give the hotel a great first WOW impression. Given the few westerners in town we found the limited English spoken by the reception staff a little difficult at times but with sign language we managed to work things out. The bed in our room was very comfortable even though the room itself was basic but roomy. The rooms were very clean and tidy and the bathroom facilities very adequate. A real highlight of this hotel is the food served at their informal Tongyueting Restaurant. A top taste is their yangzhou fried rice – the best fried rice we tasted on our China trip as well as their fried pork Chengde style and Honey Guangdong style barbequed pork which were also very nice dishes. On our second night we chose delightful western dishes with an Asian twist enjoying tasty baked BBQ pork pies and delicious custard tarts. The restaurant staff had only a little command of English but it did not matter as they were very friendly and courteous and went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our dining experiences. We also enjoyed having breakfasts here on both mornings. While the food was great it was the beautiful harmonious Chinese garden landscaping that makes this place so charming. What a sheer delight walking the hotel grounds. The careful placement of rocks and trees in the gardens is breathtaking. We thoroughly enjoyed our short visit to Chengde with its outstanding Puning and Puyou Temples and of course the magnificent Chengde Mountain Resort with its imperial palaces and gardens including the Summer Palace with a museum showcasing ancient porcelain and a wonderful range of antique clocks. We would recommend this charming hotel as a nice place to stay in Chengde

Good service despite language barrier

Most staff spoke little to know English (except for one), but tried their best to communicate and meet my expectations. In fact the staff seemed more customer-oriented than in most places in China. Buffet breakfast is convenient and good value. Room was very large and clean. Located at a busy roundabout, and therefore lots of noise coming from the street in the late evening and early morning. It would be impossible to take a nap in the afternoon if you're in a room facing the street. Very, very slow wifi - almost impossible to get anything done.

Average, but Pleasant Hotel!
Reviewed By deb-terrMy husband and I stayed here for only one night as part of a tour group excursion. We found our non-smoking room and carpet to be quite clean and the bathroom well appointed with slippers, shampoo, conditioner and soap available to use. Be careful though not to use the many things that you will find in your room for sale, or you will pay! Some of these items are quite amusing though and gave us quite a chuckle. Our room had a king size bed with a large window that faced the main street. The bed was a bit on the hard side for us but much more comfortable than the bed that we slept in at the Mercure Wanshang in Beijing. Although the main street was quite busy with many cars, noise was not an issue for us. This hotel is in a great location to go out for dinner at a local restaurant or to do some shopping. The provided breakfast buffet was rather good we thought with a variety of both Chinese and North American dishes available. You definitely will not go hungry! However, we were not able to access the Internet in our room to use our tablet even with our portable wireless Nano Router.

AN UNEXPECTED GEM IN CHENGDE- NORTH CHINA
Reviewed By gahughes1Chengde is full of surprises. An old haunt and playground of the wealthy imperial family who used to escape the hot Beijing summer and come up here to read poetry, hunt and drink pretty good rice wine. I recommend the old Summer House and large gardens and hills of the main residence. This hotel surprises with its huge rooms, electric curtains near the bath and brand new fittings. The buffet breakfast rivals those in Beijing(the Hilton on Jinyu Hutong for one). Yes, a good break from the traffic in Beijing and truly an oasis that surprises. A 2 night stay and then you can head up to the high plains or down to Simatai and the Great Wall and stay at Gubei Water Town.

Reviewed By yeahgc锦江之星（承德避暑山庄环城南路店），酒店位于环线上，左边就是僧冠峰，右边是居民区，很安静，吃饭也很方便。周围不堵车，去避暑山庄很近很方便，适合自驾出行的朋友。不过停车不是很方便，酒店门口的免费停车位很少，我们去的时候停满了，酒店给我们安排的旁边收费停车场，过夜费30元。房间宽敞，干净整洁，隔音效果一般。

In our hostel, reading, writing and relaxing are parts of your life. Savoring tea, chatting and singing games will be frequent after your arrival. No matter which life you have preferred, First Met Hostel is a warm home for all the travelers.

Good hotel in a third-tier city
Reviewed By Will ZI recommend this hotel to you if you like a spacious, clean room, a rich breakfast, and endless amenities it provides. You would definitely enjoy the quality of your hotel stay. You would also enjoy the convenience of going almost anywhere in town. The Imperial Summer Resort, the city center, the river view, and the railway station are all in a walking distance. You might get a better deal if you book your hotel room online. With this discount price ($46 for my standard room with two beds vs. $150 at hotel desk), be reasonable about the friendliness of the staff, the upgrades of your hotel room (the restroom door can't be closed), and just enjoy what I mentioned above. One more thing: be sure to cash out your deposit receipt (¥200）before your departure; the hotel does not take your credit card for your possible small expenses when you check in.
