Majestic: this word is not an overstatement when it comes to the Electra Palace hotel in Thessaloniki. Built in one of the most impressive city squares of Greece, Aristotelous Sq., facing the endless sea of the Thermaikos Gulf, its architecture at once imposing and noble, it is one of the city's architectural gems. Inside the hotel's byzantine-inspired exterior, hides a neoclassical heart: wood paneling, marble inlay and wooden floors, plush carpets, cabriole and chesterfield sofas, ornate furniture, luxurious details, generous amenities and, of course, breathtaking views: on a clear day one can easily see as far as mount Olympus across the gulf. Beneath the Electra Palace Thessaloniki's windows and balconies, lies the lively center of a vibrant city: Aristotelous Square. In between city square and mighty mountain, the expansive horizon, the endless blue of the sea. Right in the heart of city, the Electra Palace Thessaloniki is ideally located whether you are in town for business or pleasure: within walking distance from the shopping district, the Thessaloniki International Exhibition Center, most major monuments, museums and sites, the Ladadika area and right across from Olympion cinema that hosts the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, it is the place to stay when meeting with business partners, attending trade shows, enjoying the city's rich cultural scene or exploring its nightlife. Featuring comfortable, well equipped rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, a gym and spa, a wonderful restaurant on the top floor, and the renowned Electra Hotels and Resorts service, it is also the par excellence place to unwind and relax, enjoying unparalleled views and the hospitality you deserve.

The Caravan is a small B&B in a renovated neoclassical building of 1929. With a total of 13 rooms, it is located in one of the most historical neighborhoods of Thessaloniki's center. An ideal choice for anyone who visits the city for personal or business purposes, looking for a friendly, quiet and cozy environment.
I wish someone had written an honest opinion on The Caravan before we spent two nights there. Thessaloniki is not an easy place to get to and when we arrived, we were very tired after a long train ride. The hotel is a glorified coffee shop with lots of young people studying in the lobby. This is fine if you are a young person looking for a cheap place to stay (although this was not particularly cheap). The lobby was crowded and unorganized and I honestly didn't know if I was in a hotel or a coffee shop. When we got checked in, we went up to our room on the 4th floor and it was about 95 deg in the room. The AC is not on unless the key is in the slot by the door. The room had a "veranda" which was a rooftop sauna with no shade and all the curtains were left open so it was miserable. I tried to call them to get another key so we could leave the AC running and go somewhere else so we didn't pass out from heat stroke but the phone didn't work. I honestly didn't know if it was a prop or a real phone since it was an old one with a dial. Found out later it was real - just didn't work - in fact didn't work the entire time we were there (yes - I did let them know immediately upon arrival). The room was very weird and very hostel like. Metal attached furniture, No shades on bulbs (felt like an interrogation room), only 2 pillows on the bed. They did have a "pillow menu" but we couldn't order any as our phone didn't work. Veranda furniture was disgusting. Obviously cushions were left out in the every rain, metal part was rusting, etc. There was zero shade (and it was hot!). There was an umbrella stand taking up part of the veranda but no umbrella to be found. Breakfast was good but they asked what you wanted and didn't quite adhere to that. They also asked if you wanted it delivered to your room and didn't quite do that either - we had to go down 4 floors, find our breakfast in the breakfast room and they then brought it up - which we had to eat quickly on our rapidly heating veranda. The room was so small there was no possibility of eating in there. I will say the staff tried very hard. My thinking is that no owners are onsite and the staff is contracted help and they have very little control over how the hotel is maintained (phones working, veranda furniture, general decor). They do their best and they were helpful in getting taxis. I honestly felt like I was in a dorm room and that was not the experience we were looking for at all.

Porto Carras Grand Resort is ideally located on the western coast of Sithonia, Halkidiki central peninsula and 112km from Thessaloniki airport. The most complete resort in Greece is nestled on the rising slopes of Mt Meliton and overlooking the expansive blue of Toroneos Gulf, amidst 1,763 hectares of verdant landscape and along 9 km of sandy beaches punctuated by 25 pristine coves. It features a 5* and a 4Plus star hotel, offering rooms, a variety of suites and family units. a private 315-berth Marina, the largest Conference Hall in Northern Greece, a Casino with two venues, a Thalassotherapy & Spa centre, a Golf Course, Horse Riding facilities, a Tennis Club, a Padi Diving centre, a Nautical Club, along with Greece’s largest organic vineyard and winery. The resort also features three helipads.
just got back from a relaxing four days, the hotel has new management so ignore any reviews from before two years ago, you can see they have made some major changes and where they are trying to take the hotel. The hotel itself has some breath taking views, it’s on a marina with some luxury boats that come in and out the of the port onto the med which is actually what the hotel reminds me of like a huge cruise liner without the boat part, right next to a soft shell beach. It’s not loud you won’t hear a lot apart from the noise of the waves and the sounds of conversations between families in all different languages, it basically shuts down at ten, the wifi is brilliant you get it even on the beach, no reserving sun beds, there’s so many, the hotel is so clean. The staff are the best you can ask for they take an interest in you, who you are, why you are there, always polite even if guests are not so much. The drinks are not watered down, you get a real glass of coke, true Gin in your drinks, with waiter service for lunch and dinner drinks, so if that’s your thing then it’s perfect and you don’t need to read the buts there are a few buts though. Remember in Greece you pay a hotel tax, it’s different depending on your hotel star rating, it’s based on the number of nights and payable on arrival so if you book four nights even if you arrive after midnight then you pay for four nights, that’s not just this hotel but as this is a five star hotel I think it’s relevant. If you arrive after ten at night there is no food even on an all inclusive, you have to wait until morning or pay additional costs, the costs for anything that’s not in the all inclusive is a lot, 1 Coca-Cola is 5 euros, that nearly five pounds for a glass of Coca-Cola. There is no electronics for sale close to the hotel so if your charger cable breaks, then you have issues, we managed to borrow one from one of the staff so always bring spares. You have to make arrangements for food and drink if you have a late transfer back to the airport, ours was late afternoon so we did get lunch but no drinks if you don’t then you will have to pay. Not all food and drink is part of the all inclusive deal and the food that is which is a buffet doesn’t change massively but the staff take great care in the preparation of the food. It’s always cleanly served, lots of choice but watch the labels I mistakenly ate beef which was labelled pork, needless to say I’m not supposed to eat beef, after my second bite I went to check only to be told it’s been mislabelled. However on an all inclusive package you do get one meal in the menu based restaurant away from the the buffet. The spa is great but as with all hotels it’s additional costs with no discounts for all inclusive packages. the gym has a glass view right next to the port, don’t get me wrong it needs new equipment so I had to train on the beach but a few days that I did train in there showed how well it’s been thought out. This hotel isn’t cheap in an era of rising costs of living, for most of us now a holiday is a luxury and you need to choose wisely. Would we go back? yes but it’s not my first choice and I think with where ever you go you should always leave with your hotel being the first choice to go back to especially a five star luxury hotel, even if that choice doesn’t last I’m not sure this hotel did that but with a few tweaks it certainly could do,

An absolutely amazing holiday, thanks to the most attentive and friendly staff of the Athen Pallas hotel! From the moment we arrived and throughout we were so well taken care of, we cannot thank the team enough. We were given complimentary upgrades to the Armonia suites, with 14 of us in 6 rooms located next to each other, it felt almost like we had our own private villa and pool! The whole group enjoyed every moment from age 2 to 74! The Doxato restaurant always impressed especially the traditional greek dishes! We have collectively visited the hotel 4 times now, and look forward to coming again! Thank you to the hotel staff who really are the reason we return! Making us feel comfortable, and so well looked after!

We had a one night stay in this hotel which was located next to the waterfront. The hotel was very modern and the rooms were large with great fittings. The breakfast was very good with a great variety of breakfast food and served as a buffet well laid out. Probably the best hotel in this beautiful city

Halkidiki is just lovely, beautiful beaches and swimming in a blue flag beach was just fabulous. The hotel was just so disappointing, this is without a doubt not 4* by any means, as already mentioned 2/3*. The gardens are beautiful and well kept but it was just a bit too lacking everywhere else. Apart from the chap who helped with the cases and the girl serving at the pool bar, and the girl in the restaurant the rest of the hotel staff were possibly the most rude and surly people I have ever encountered in a hotel environment. We even witnessed a set too in the taverna on the Greek night which was the only entertainment provided by the hotel manager dancing himself. My husband went in to settle the bill, we moved table to be with friends then, to our utter embarrassment were accused of not paying, luckily I had the payment evidence at hand on my phone, but leaves a bad taste after. The service wasn’t the best and you get what your given. After ordering, potatoes I was told there was only chips so agreed to that then rice arrived! In the room we waited three days for them to fill the soap dispenser to wash our hands and shower gel, I actually dismantled them and left the empty bottles to get them refilled. The room wasn’t very clean itself and very tired decor. No kettle, no bathrobes, shocking wi-fi and definitely not sound proof by any means, we could hear people in the bathroom on both sides. Around the pool is a sparing amount of sun beds and this is for a reason, they think people are daft, because you have to go to the beach and pay €20 a day, day one we paid, didn’t get a receipt because the paper wasn’t working in the machine (yeah, heard that a few times in town too) and we all know where that went! From that day forward we paid by card. If you like to pay €12 for 2 mediocre coffees €6 a pint while down there, it leaves another bad taste. Don’t rush back upstairs tho as the pool is shut off at 6pm, even the little babies in there were chucked out and chains up. I know it takes a while for the cleaning, filtering but are you sure? 6pm in the summer season? Don’t have any illusions of watching any TV in English either as there is one BBC news channel, the other 30 are German and Greek. Breakfast is interesting too kidney beans and carrots! Could this be leftovers from the evening meal? I am so pleased we were breakfast only, the surly staff and not able to serve yourself, having to ask for salt and pepper as none on the table was a joke. The best thing about this hotel is the efficient taxi service out of there into the nearest town.

This wasn’t my first stay at this boutique hotel. The suite was facing the waterfront as I had requested. The staff is very attentive and are always available to guide guests in their needs, with great knowledge of Thessaloniki. Although I was in the city but a few nights, I have used the valet service for parking in the past. It’s very convenient. Normally not a breakfast person, the buffet was so diversified, I indulged every morning. The staff is the gem of the Daios hotel. From front desk, porters, house keeping and the restaurant staff, their warmth comes across. They are all attentive in a wonderfully subdued way. Attentive but not intrusive and it truly compliments the properties style. Ultimately, would I stay again….? Oh, yes. It’s the right size that you’re not treated as just another temporary tenant. They’re truly appreciative that you’re in their care. And it’s a special feeling every time I stay at the Daios.
