Booked on line, lovely hotel, after last year's flood in the area very good room, plenty hot water. Massive choice of breakfast. Lovely gardens to sit out in. Rebooted for December. Well worth a visit as history of building go's back to 1146.

We took a family room for one night after visiting Phantasialand. Location is good as close by, and you can get there avoiding the exit queue. Rooms as such are old style, simple with a large bed and bunk bed. Bunk bed was lacking a ladder to get up. At night the room got very hot so we had to open the window to get fresh air. There was a ventilator but we did not use it. Outside temperature was not hot so not the reason. Luckily we had a room on the backside as the front side is more noisy due to the street in front of the hotel. What was great was the breakfast, prepared and ready when arriving (no buffet due to Covid 19). This was clearly very good and compensated for the average night.

Stayed for nearly three months at this hotel 18 years ago (2000) because it was so good and great value for money and appart from some new refurbishments, still a great hotel. Food was first class, breakfast just great, Still friendly staff and the owners still as friendly as it was 18 years ago. Highly recommend this hotl Excellant value and IMHO way above many 5 star hotels is service and friendliness.

Our "Haus am See" is a typical B&B. We are ideally situated between Cologne and Bonn close to the famous Leisure Park "Phantasialand" which you can reach in walking distance. Our three individual rooms with en suite Bathrooms have each a separate entrance. Of course a large breakfast collection is served in the morning and is part of the room rate.
Clean, wonderful apartment and breakfast. Internet Wi-Fi ok. Free parking. Close to Koln and many restaurant in the area. Simone the owner very kind person and professional. Bruhl is the closest city where you can have an Italian dinner at Grissino restaurant, or Paella at El Patio restaurant

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in June in a single room. Here is what I liked: - My single room was newly refurbished (I stayed in room 27 on the second floor) and came with a double bed (140 x 200 cm) which was a nice surprise. The bed was quite comfortable, eventhough the mattress was on the hard side, but that is a personal preference I guess. The pillows were quite big and I mean big and not squishy, I slept with the small deco pillow instead. - The shower in the bathroom was very nice. Shower gel an hand soap are provided in handy wall mounted squeezy bottles. For all the ladies out there - you might want to bring some shampoo and conditioner, especially if you have long hair like me. The wash gels provided are nice but won't do a good job on making your hair soft and silky. - The continental breakfast, which was provided for until 10 am every morning, was good. The hotel provided fresh rolls, bread, cheeses and sausages, jam, fruit, joghurt, nutella, eggs, juice, coffee and cereals (I am sure I have forgotten to list something here, but you get the idea, they have a bit of everything). - My room was very clean and with every turn down service I received a new bottle of water. Eventhough it was sparkly and I would have liked the choice of a non sparkling water too. - The food in the restaurant was good but as another reviewer mentioned, the menu might be a a bit dated or you could say its a rustic, traditional German style menu. However, I had the veal one night and the baked cheese another and I enjoyed both dishes. And after all, they call themselves a country house, I was not expecting French cuisine. Here are the things I didn't enjoy so much: - Service! Or more the lack there of...On my first night I sat outside on the terrace and I had to wait 25 minutes before a waiter made it over to my table so I could order a glass of wine. And what annoyed me even more is the fact that a few tables, the people arrived well after me, were served first. After I was finally able to order my glass of wine I waited another 5 minutes but no wine in sight... so I went inside to the bar to just get one myself but was told that my glass had just been brought out. I ended up with two glasses being brought to my table, but enjoyed one for free... nice touch but at that point too little too late! - Being sneered at by the hotel owner (as I found out later).... let me explain: On my first morning I sat out on the terrace for a few minutes after my breakfast. there was a guy out there watering the plants but I didn't mind. What I did mind is that I was started down and sneered at as I was sitting there. There was also some mumbling going on. So I guess sitting on the terrace is not permitted during daytime... only during the opening times of the restaurant when you pay to sit there and wait 30 minutes for your glass of wine... - But the story does not end there... same guy one day later was quite unfriendly to me when I walked from one end of the house to the next, to get to the exit. He asked me in a quite unfriendly tone what I wanted in the restaurant part of the hotel. Oh excuse me, I am one of your paying hotel guests, is it ok. to use the door to get out?!?!?! Both instanced with Mr. Wieler (I guess) made me feel quite unwelcome and upon the second encounter I did consider to move to another hotel but could not find one on such short notice. - The lack of black out blinds. I would have liked black out blinds, curtains or something as the only curtains provided let in quite a bit of light and during the summer this meant a bright room quite early. All in all - nice new rooms, good food if you are into the traditional style German meals but brutal service and a grumbly owner who you might or might not come across. I would have given the hotel 4 points in my rating but the unfriendly owner and the bad service brought it down to a 3.

The hotel was picked because it was close to family. Adequate but very small room and bathroom and my bed was exceedingly uncomfortable. I assume the mattress was old and it's construction pushed a hard object into my back. I mentioned it to staff in the morning but during our stay it was not resolved. The breakfast was generous.

Unser Team versteht alle Sprachen. Wir bitten Sie jedoch, uns möglichst auf Englisch zu schreiben. I have stayed at many many hostels around the world(in UK, USA, and in other countries in Europe). I have to say Bornheim Hostel is by far THE BEST hostel i have ever stayed at!!! Without a doubt!!! I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a place to crash and enjoy a good night of sleep( or several nights/weeks). Very affordable. I paid only €44/night. This place is so clean and neat...you won't believe it!!! It will make you feel more like you're in a 4 star hotel!!! For real!!! The rooms have pretty much all you need. Table, chairs, mirror, super clean bed sheets&towels, television. Nice beds and very soft pillows. The bathroom is public , has a cabin shower & is SUPER CLEAN/ one person at a time. And it also has super good&fast wifi . What more does one expect from a hostel? And is very safe. In the hallway there's a pretty good size refigerator. It's public but there's plenty of space for everyone's food to store. And one of the most important things-PRIVACY. If you're a single person you get the whole room by yourself. You don't get a stranger to share the room with. There are two beds in each room. Not like in UK where they stack people in the same room like sardines in a can. 6-8-and even 10 people ( men&women combined)to a very small room and the beds do suck!!! Not to mention how dirty they are ( in UK) , mice running around ..bed bugs ..bed smell. Filthy. Nasty!!! So, to conclude this feedback I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BORNHEIM HOSTEL to anyone&everyone from all around the world. You will be very satisfied with this GZ Bornheim Hostel. P.S. forgot to mention no smoking inside the rooms but it's only a very short walk outside( few steps). I am giving this hostel not only 5 star but 10 star rating. For real!!! Very very satisfied Sincerely Ionut zamfir
