Hotel was perfect, the one problem being I had a ground floor room and fancied a late wake up. This was impossible it was so loud from about 7am onwards. Apart from that i would definitely use the hotel again

I spent a week at the Mercur Hotel and felt very welcome. The hotel is situated just across the street from the main railway station and at the foot of the shopping precinct. Where the rooms are nice enough (standard comfort, very soft beds), the service was excellent. Be it at reception, in the bar or restaurant, you get royal treatment.

Free Wifi In All Rooms
Stayed here again, this time for business, and had a good stay again. Room was comfortable and clean, the location next to the main station and in the city center is great and the staff was friendly. A little minus are the tiny bathrooms and that the bar area was not open, maybe due to covid. Anyways, I'd come back here for my next stay in Bochum.

The Hotel is relatively new still fresh, rooms are comfortable, front desk and bar staff are super nice and helpful, but housekeeping let’s the place down. On arrival I checked into my room and found the food from the previous guest in the fridge, soap dispenser was more or less empty, there was a hint of soap in the bottom of the bottle. Second day, came back to the room, the unused towels were removed from the bathroom, I was left with 1, I went to reception to get a foot matt as the bathroom floor does get quite wet, so you need one (the one I had also disappeared into thin air). Minibar was not refilled (not sure if it is policy not to refill it, if it is than I was not made aware of that) and soap was not refilled either, but I had some with me so I used that. So due to this not the brightest star in the Hotel Universe. If nothing else would be free I might stay here again, fair well knowing that housekeeping works on a standard you’d expect in a hostel.

I was staying there for 2 nights during a family visit over Christmas. While the rooms were clean, they were also very basic with just the bare essentials present – not even a complimentary bottle of water. WiFi was free of charge, but also extremely slow. However, my biggest complaint is about the room keys. When I came back in the evening my room key wasn’t working anymore. So I went down to the reception where I received a new one and guess what - it didn‘t work either - and neither did the third keycard they gave me! After 20 minutes they finally managed to give me a keycard that was actually working…at least until the next morning when I came back from breakfast and the same problem occured over and over again. According to the staff at the reception this wasn’t a one-off problem, but seems to happen quite frequently! Sorry, but having to run back and forth 3-4 times between your room and the reception every single time you want to enter you room is simply unacceptable.

Booked an Executive room - arrived late at the hotel - Got the room - which is smaller than some normal rooms in other Renaissance Hotels ! Not at all Executive style ! Small room although on the 7th floor. Window cannot be opened - Ugh !!!! Stayed here due to the fact I wanted to be in Gelsenkirchen the next day - but next time I will stay at the Maritim - A world of difference. Restaurant closed - again the COVID excuse - but across the road - a super Italian Restaurant - at least this made my day.

I stayed here for one evening in October during a week long business trip. I'll start by saying that I usually don't choose my own hotels. They're usually chosen for me. I only say this because I know that a lot of folks choose their hotel based on a lot of research. I don't fall into this category. The staff was friendly and helpful. I try to use my limited German language skills while in country, but the staff was willing to step in and speak English when I needed help. The room was normal sized based on European standards. It was very clean and comfortable. I wouldn't call the room cozy with all of the glass and tile, but this is also normal in Europe. There was a small terrace/balcony. The view wasn't great through the trees, but it was very pleasant nonetheless. The next morning we helped ourselves to the the breakfast room. This is one of my favorite things about traveling in Germany. It had everything that I usually look for and was good. I will say that it was a little less organized than some of the other breakfast rooms that I've visited, but this could have been because I was confused. This absolutely did not change my review. I would definitely stay here and/or recommend this hotel to a friend.

The Hotel Claudius is a small and quiet hotel in a very central area of Bochum. The staff is absolutely friendly. The breakfast is good and ample. The door opener can be a bit of a problem as you need to push a little button directly in front of the door knob.
