The Green Tortoise hostels in Seattle and San Francisco are built on the fine tradition of a social communal experience. We have expanded and refined the hostel experience with free internet, free meals, private bathrooms, and comforts that make The Green Tortoise unique.
The building is abit old but they are very clean. There is free breakfast and ATM, ear plugs, coin change machine. The bathrooms are also beautiful. The rooms can be abit cold but they are willing to make your stay comfortable by adding you a blanket or Changing you to a room with working AC. The staff are polite and helpful, I just admire how they work together in their bright green jackets. The place is near the market place and in downtown. Beautiful trees around too. What made my stay okay is the level of cleanliness period.

The front desk staff was super nice and upgraded our room for us. Awesome location in Fremont!! So many great places to walk from here. Even though it was a hostel, we booked a private room which was very spacious, had nice lighting, and its own bathroom. The other guests were nice as well.

We offer private dorms and shared dorms, we also have a group dorm if you are coming with your friends. There is a common area with two 60 inch flat screen TV's, a pool table and a fully stocked kitchen with state of the art appliances for you to prepare meals. And for those warm days we also have a BBQ area. We invite you to come see the new Hostel on San Juan Island.
This is the dirtiest hostel I’ve ever been to. We refused to take off our shoes unless we were in bed and even then, we slept fully clothed because we were so uncomfortable. We have stayed at hostels across the country and the world and this was by far the lowest of the low. The hostel also doubles as a homeless shelter! So there are homeless men hanging around inside and out all day long hoping for a room. The air smells like urine and body odor. The bathrooms were filthy with feces and urine. Most didnt even have toilet paper until today. The long term “residents” leave their toiletries in the bathroom and it’s just honestly disgusting. The fridge was FULL of fruit flies and other bugs. The homeless have their feet up on all the furniture. I wish I could leave zero stars.

The Lodge on Orcas Island is more than a hostel but different than a B & B.We call it a European Style Guest House. We offer 7 private rooms and 1 suite. The 7 rooms share 3 common baths, the kitchen and living areas. The suite has a private bath and sitting area. Although we do not serve food many of our guests appreciate having use of our fully equipped kitchen to cook for themselves. The Lodge is available for rent by the room or you may arrange to have exclusive use of the entire property.A private room/shared bath is $89.The suite is $149.Exclusive use of the entire property is $995.Prices quoted are nightly + 10.1% sales and lodging tax.Unless you opt for exclusive use of the property you can look forward to mingling and getting acquainted with other travelers from around the world. At the Lodge we do not care for the sound of blaring electronics so we are a television free zone.Rather, the sounds you will hear are the trickling of water, bird song, the breeze whispering through the trees, nocturnes by Chopin, ballads by Diana Krall. Our aesthetic is informed by the American Arts and Crafts movement. Though not a museum, you may notice many craftsman inspired touches throughout the house and adjoining property. We emphasize cleanliness. Allergy sufferers and those who are chemically sensitive will appreciate that we use only unscented soaps and cleansers for the laundry and household. The house always smells fresh, natural and clean. In the baths we provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and toothpaste. Brands currently featured are Dr. Bronners or Trader Joe's.The Lodge is recognized by Washington State as a Backyard Wildlife Sanctuary. Nature lovers will enjoy seeing the birds that flock to our feeders and baths and basking in their soothing song.If it is respite you are seeking, you've come to the right place. Put your ambitions aside and head for one of the several Pawleys Island rope hammocks hanging beneath the Western Red Cedars. Nothing spells relief like sinking into the quilt lined hammock and being lulled into a deep and restful sleep unlike anything you've ever experienced.Book any 2 nights between Sunday and Thursday and get the 3rd night free. Our way of appreciating your midweek business. :)
Wow - what a place. It feels not like a hotel, but truly like a home! And even better: it is kept up by a super committed, dedicated and friendly owner... David greeted us nicely upon arrival and showed us around his house and garden. We were taken by surprise how charming David's house and garden is - the pictures we had seen beforehand were not able to fully transmit the warmth of the place. Given the absolutely positive airbnb reviews, we were sure to come to a nice place, but still: reality is even nicer than the review will tell. We loved the house itself: it felt like a well private residency: warm colors on the walls, books on coffee tables, soft background music, nice lighting. And yes, like in a private home, the three bathrooms are shared between the guests. The same is true for the kitchen, which proved to be well stocked with everything in regards to cooking equipment, but also in regards to organic coffee or tea. David is clear to everyone that using the kitchen also means cleaning it - which worked excellently. The kitchen was spotless every time we came in there. Given the multiple seating possibilities, upstairs as well as downstairs, up on the balcony or outside in the garden, it was easy to find solitude whenever required, but also interactions with other guests whenever one felt like having a conversation. Our favorite place was the garden: using the BBQ grills and relaxing in one of the hammocks looking up into the trees was just so nice. David has a nice orchard in the backyard - of course organic fitting to his philosophy. I promise: when picking fresh Asian pears right from the tree, they will taste much better than anything you can buy in a store... Oh yes, and wifi was excellent. We stayed for two nights only. Would we have realized how much we'll enjoy our visit, we would have stayed longer. Next time in the region, I will definitively come back. And for anyone traveling to the Seattle / Vancouver area, I will recommend going there - you'll not regret it.

There are two dormitory rooms in the owner’s house. The owner runs the hostel as a way of reaching out to people about his world view which is to be kind, communal, and change the world - not far off some of the baby boomer peace a activists I know. He begins by giving a lecture on really another world without homelessness, lack of health care, talking about concern for others and environment. He believes that Bernie Sanders is the way to do this and talks a lot about Bernie. The place is run in a pedagogical way, e.g. pricing structure - he suggests $10 but won’t tell you what to pay. He asks you to do chores in the morning which he describes as an act of kindness. The rooms are basic but that is what you expect from a hostel. Unfortunately the blankets are quite dirty. I don’t agree with the politics but I thought it was quite an interesting cultural experience. The owner is gentle and not forceful in his views. It was interesting to listen and I could find points of agreement and respect what he is doing. If you are ok with that and want a very affordable room, go for it.

You couldn't ask for a more peaceful, friendly place to stay. Very clean with some private rooms and two gender-specific shared dorms. Managers live on-site and go out of their way to make you feel at home from wonderful fresh baked bread in the morning to careful directions to areas of interest. The hostel is within Fort Worden State Park and overlooks the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Downtown Port Townsend is an easy 20 minute walk along the beach or along the side-streets. Many hiking trails thru the old fort with fantastic views of the Strait, the shoreline and the lighthouse. Exploring the many old tunnels and buildings in the fort can keep you occupied for days (bring a flashlight). Or just sit on the top of the hill, watch the deer graze and the boats (large and small) travel thru the straight. You will go home with fresh sea air in your lungs and a special calmness inside.

I had to stay here for short time, however the place is perfect and staff and service was good. This is located near to the train station and bus station, from where you can travel across teh city. Also it is walking distance to downtown.

Don’t under any circumstances stay here!!! The owner is a tweeker who gives local junkies beds to sleep in if they provide him with drugs. There is garbage and debris strewn EVERYWHERE around the property and the exterior closer resembles a hobo shanty town. It’s smelly, filthy, and crawling with junkies & drug traffic. It might have been a nice cozy hostel 10-15 years ago before Cody’s drug problem took hold and the whole place went to hell. But currently it’s a disaster, and honestly a public safety concern. The Pictures do not reflect the current state of the place
