I spent 3 nights at Local Hostel Manaus and I can say that it is a good place to stay. Our room was clean as well as the sanitary facilities. AND: the breakfasts were simply perfect. Also, the staff was very helpful, with a very good knowledge of English, and friendly. I can particularly mention Bruna, who did a really great job. So if I come back to Manaus, I'll be happy to use Lthe services of Local Hostel again. Thanks!

The shared rooms are not cleaned. I spent my days in the hostel working, and never once was my room cleaned during the week. A girl checked out of my room, and her dirty sheets stayed on the bed for 3 days. They were only removed when someone else came to check in to that bed and I mentioned the sheets were dirty. The first time I saw my room swept out with a broom was on Saturday. 4 complete days of no cleaning at all, then on the 5th day a broom. Then after that, nothing again. The one bathroom on the first floor runs out of toilet paper all the time. Also, I do it think it it cleaned either. Other than taking out the trash once the trash can was overflowing, it seems to me that the bathroom is cleaned as much as my room was, almost never. Also, I cannot count the how many times it was being used when I needed the bathroom. The soap container for hand washing was running out of soap so it was filled with water to create more “soap”. I mentioned that more soap was needed as was told someone was buying some. 3 days later, there was still no soap. Laundry services are advertised, but don’t exist other than paying to wash clothes in a sink by hand. Breakfast that is expensive for Brazilian standards is a sad offering of bread, cheese and ham. For 20 Reais, that is laughable. One of the reasons I chose to stay at this hostel was the reviews about it having a good breakfast. I don’t know what everyone else was eating, but the breakfast offerings were sad while I was there. On the weekend it improved substantially. Sad since guests pay the same no matter the day of the week for both the stay and breakfast. We deserve the same treatment. The towel that has a charge seemed dirty to me. The sheets on the bed also did not feel completely clean. I found lots of hairs on the sheets. And they were very coarse and rough. The layout of the hostel, the age of the house it’s in, and the doors and windows don’t help with noise reduction in the rooms at all.

The modern world forces us to move major shares of energy in search for survival and improvement of our lives. The increasing in responsibilities while leisure moments and true peace of mind become scarce.given this, tourism has become indispensable.Traveling and "turning off" currently has been indetified as a powerful antidote against stress, anxiety and even against depression.but it is just not enough to travel, physically be absent from routine environment, it is necessary relaxation; nothing is worth the charm of known places if one is not accompanied by leisure and complete good physical and mental rest.

Arawak Jungle Hostel is located a short distance from Manaus, in Acutuba Beach, on the left bank of the Rio Negro, in the city of Iranduba, Amazonas State, Brazil. Surrounded by pristine tropical rain forest, it can be reached via paved highway from Manaus, 35 minutes from the crossing of the Rio Negro Bridge. Depending on the season and the Rio Negro's elevation, visitors can enjoy extensive, white sands covered river beaches, jungle trekking and canoe rides of igapos (flooded forest). Invite your friends and enjoy the natural beauties of the Amazonian nature in a family, elegant environment.
I stayed at Arawak about 2 years ago for a weekend and I still remember those days as one of the best mini holidays I have had by myself. The location is absolutely stunning, you can explore the forest and enjoy the beautiful beach nearby, where you can also find several bars and restaurants. There's an indigenous village on the other side of the river, which is very pretty and they allow turists to visit and buy local art and jewelry. The building is beautiful, stylish and peaceful rooms are comfortable and the food absolutely delicious and healthy. This place has an incredible energy, I really couldn't recommend it more. I got there by public transport (bus) from Manaus, it was very easy to find and I felt safe all the time.

I have stayed at this hotel 4 or 5 times. I have also stayed at another hotel in Parintins. The group that I work with also sends teams of Americans that stay here for 5-6 days at a time. The hotel has been a great option for us. At the very least, it is adequate as a clean resting place. But they have made some great additions over the last few years. Their food is very good (nobody has gotten sick), they have a nice little pool to cool of in, and a number of recreational activities (soccer court, ping pong, foosball, pool table, etc...). The laundry service is very affordable and nice. The wifi costs a bit of money and is not fantastic, but it gets the job done in a pinch. To be honest, though, the internet connectivity is about as good as it gets in a small town in the Amazon. What do you expect? In general, this hotel is certainly the best option in Parintins. It is clean and provides access to more than basic amenities. I have certainly stayed at worse hotels in the United States.

Hanuman Hostel – Simply Superb! A true home away from home. With funky Indian and Amazonian themed dorm rooms, a stylish swimming pool with a water fountain, a chill-out space with Netflix, a delicious breakfast and a generous “pay what you think it’s worth” philosophy, it’s little wonder travelers rave about the place. Although it may not be in the city center, excellent facilities and warm hospitality make Hanuman justifiably worthwhile. If you want to relax and some privacy here is your perfect Hostel! Located in Parque 10 de Novembro, one of the main neighborhoods of Manaus, we offer a perfect and comfortable home base for our guests before and after their jungle trips. We provide a cozy and comfortable dorms as well as private rooms with 'King Size Double Beds' and 'Family Dorm'. Hanuman hostel is close to everything you need: supermarkets, restaurants, ATM bank, bars, cafes specializing in regional dishes of the amazon, bus and taxi stops, and city green parks.
This hostel is simply amazing. Wonderful atmosphere, super friendly staff and a true home away from home feeling. They have a fully equipped kitchen, AMAZING WiFi, free coffee, a bar, swimming pool and even a washing machine! Highly recommended for every traveller. Note: it's outside from the centre but communication links are excellent and the area is super safe (and really nice too!).

Hostel Barcelos is a new, and unique hostel on the Rio Negro in Brazil.
This review is long overdue, but we stayed here for 2 weeks in early 2015...It was fantastic! Gerry had connections to a 30' boat with a guide (who built the boat) and his wife. We fished, slept in hammocks on board, relaxed, and enjoyed meals cooked onboard including freshly caught ceviche! The Hostel itself was also fantastic...Kitchin, basic pool, walking distance to town, it was great! Gerry showed us around town and even spent some time with us back in Manaus for a day!

This is a budget place, nothing fancy, so don't expect much. Breakfast was simple, shower was almost on top of toilet, wifi didn't work inside the room, staff don't speak english nor proper Portuguese as they're from spaniard countries around Brazil. For me as Brazilian was at times difficult to communicate with them. I wrote an email making some changes to my reservation and they messed it up. Therefore, I ended up having to change hostels in the middle of my stay in Manaus.
