Named by American soldiers during the post-World War II occupation years, the Romantic Road is a 200-mile-plus section of one of Germany's most picturesque highways, stretching from Würzburg in Bavaria's north to Füssen near the Austrian border. Along the route are many favorite tourist towns and attractions, including Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Dinkelsbühl, Augsburg, and Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castles. Bike tours along the route are quite popular, and bus tours are also available.

Welcome to Bavaria City Hostel! The recently opened Bavaria City Hostel is located in the pedestrian area of the romantic historic city center of Füssen. It is part of the ancient hotel „Zum alten Posthorn“, which was visited by different kings and emperors in the 18th Century. and thus turning it into a hotel again like in former times, we want to keep up an old family tradition .You can choose between our individually designed private rooms (rooms with double beds or two single beds) or a single bed in one of our spacious Shared rooms (4 – 9 beds). All rooms share clean showers and toilets in the halls, there are several shared bathrooms on each floor. Enjoy all the benefits of the central position of our hostel. The train station is located within three minutes walking distance. Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle can be reached by car or bus in 10 minutes. The surrounding landscape of the Allgäu is perfect for sightseeing and sporting activities like skiing, rock climbing, hiking and cycling.
This was by far the best hostel in town we have stayed in! Great attention is paid to hygiene and the rooms are very nicely furnished. The location of the hostel is very central. It is just an 8-minute walk to the train station.

Old Kings design hostel is located within Fuessen's medieval city walls and is only a 7 minute walk from the train station. Occupying a historic townhouse, Old Kings is where hip meets history: Relax in our King's Loft or Gryffindore dorms or enjoy the canopy bed in our "King of Dreams" double room. Meet other travellers over a drink at the communal table in our lounge or borrow a book from our library. And don't forget to grab one of our bikes to explore the crystal clear lakes, mountains and castle ruins that surround us. There is much more to Fuessen than just Neuschwanstein - the surrounding nature is a hiker's and biker's paradise with beautiful Bavarian villages and amazing mountain climbs almost starting at our door steps. And the baroque "Wieskirche", a Unesco World heritage site, is just around the corner.
I had booked a night in Old Kings hostel because my friend and I visited the Neuschwanstein Castle. The hostel is near the tourist spots and near the train station. The rooms are clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. He made our trip easier because he had explained which bus to ride (we bought our bus tickets in the hostel) to the castle and what to see around Füssen. We also availed their breakfast meal and it is tasty. We are overall satisfied with the service in Old Kings Hostel. I highly recommend it .

History, Planets and the Middle AgesLocated right by the city walls, JUFA Nördlingen is the perfect place to begin your expedition into past times. The historic and former free imperial city of Nördlingen is located on the Romantic Road and stands out with its time-honored buildings and best preserved city wall in Germany. The unique room concept at JUFA Nördlingen is dedicated to the planets. The design of each room is centered around a planet and then customized with furniture and colors. You can go on a journey through time back to the Middle Ages in our own defense tower. Here, children can craft their own knight's shield, create a damsel's headdress, and build medieval musical instruments.
Situated just outside the City wall, ideal for a very easy walk into the town. The rooms are bright, modern and clean, with towels and soap/shampoo provided. I stayed in a twin room with a nice balcony. The bed was comfortable, and the hotel is situated in a quiet area. Parking is provided free of charge. Breakfast was included in the price and was very good. The staff were very polite and helpful and spoke excellent English. All in all a great visit.

The Babelfish Hostel is placed opposite of the main train station. We combine the comfort and amenities of a low budget hotel with the characteristic easy-going and friendly atmosphere of a backpacker hostel. You`ll find it all, single beds in dorms, private rooms as well as apartments. The relaxed and sunny roof terrace is the highlight of every summer evening.
Well, one hostel had to be worst of my trip. I just wish it hadn't been quite SO bad. I could talk about their deceptive business practices. I could talk about the horrendous customer service. I could talk about the outrageous price. Instead I'll just say this. How on earth does a hostel only open their reception between 6pm and 8pm? You literally have two hours where you're allowed to check-in. Your train arrives at 4? Tough luck, gotta wait. Had a delay and arrived 8:30? Thanks for your money, but you ain't sleeping here. They don't even have a phone number in case any of their current guests have a problem. Lost your key or someone stole your wallet in the middle of the night? Good luck finding a bench to sleep on. They say it's because of covid, but covid exists in all of Europe. Are all the other hostels in Europe also closing at 8? Right, didn't think so. The reality is that this is because the manager is a cheapskate with zero regard for their guests.

We loved Rothenburg! Take a city tour to get your bearings and some history, then explore on your own. Walk at least a part of the wall of this Medieval walled city and take pictures of the roofs below from your elevated perch. It is a great place to soak up the local culture and just relax in the sights that abound everywhere!

I stayed here for one night. Very close to the Oberhausen station, not the best area but room was clean, modern, quiet (I had a room on the other side of the courtyard to the reception) and reasonably priced. WiFi good.

The hotel has no parking lot and everywhere around is payed parking (coins). It's in fact a youth hotel, so not a great option for family traveling with a small child, although they did provide a cot free of charge.

Welcome to our beautiful Augsburg International Youth Hostel Join us for a night or more to meet people from all over the world in a friendly atmosphere. Enjoy our delicious breakfast (all-in-price!). We are situated right in the city centre of Augsburg within walking distance from the the lovely old town and Maximilianstrasse. We offer: grand lobby with bar area (open until 0.30 a.m) with free WLAN-access. For staying in a youth hostel a membership card of a youth hostel association of the International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF) is required (Hostel conditions).
This hostel is in a wonderful location close to the main sightseeing area, and also within walking distance from the central station (about 20 min). The room was basic, with solid bunk beds and sinks inside. The staff members were friendly. The facilities were clean, and the breakfast buffet (included in the price), was amazing, with fresh fruits on top of the usual bread, yogurts, cold cuts, cereals, etc. There were even homemade spreads. I also like the clientele at this hostel - many local families were staying on the weekend. The only minus is that wifi only worked in the reception and breakfast area, but not in the rooms. Also, there were no sockets next to the bed and not enough sockets for the number of beds in the room. However, the nice breakfast and the relaxing atmosphere made up for it.

Clean facilities. Friendly staff. Nice buffet breakfast. 10 minutes walk from the city centre. When we were there, there were lots of kids with its blessings and challenges. The number of the parking places are limited, so some of the guest had to park on the street.

I have a long relationship with the Youth Hostel in Würzburg and can wholeheartedly recommend it. The whole complex has recently been renovated and the rooms are very modern, many with shower/WC. Breakfasts and meals are *very* high quality. The "JuHe" is situated about 5 minutes walk from the Old Main Bridge, meaning that you can be in the city centre in 10 minutes max.. This really now falls into the class of a budget hotel than a hostel and it is my #1 port of call for accommodation in Würzburg.
