Ottawa Backpackers Inn is the cheapest hostel accommodation in Ottawa. Our hostel does not charge an extra $5 membership fee on arrival. We're also the friendliest hostel in Ottawa. We pride ourselves on offering a laid back service for short term travellers at a great location in the city. We're located Downtown, only 2 minutes away from Byward Market, a supermarket and the liquor store. The Parliament, US Embassy and the Art Gallery are all an easy stroll away. We have all the facilities you would expect from a hostel plus some nice, little extras. > Spacious dorm rooms with safe, secure lockers > friendly staff who can answer most, if not all, your queries > regular night time activities including cake night and movie nights > a common room to chill out in > great kitchen facilities including gas stove, microwave and electric whisks > free bedding with the option to hire towels > free hi-speed wifi > free tea and coffee > luggage storage > parking > laundry > a cat, well not a facility, but a nice extra Reception is open from 8am - 12am. CANCELLATION POLICY: We do not charge for cancellations which are received more than 24 hours before you are due to arrive.
Ottawa Backpackers Inn is getting this one-star review because they "lost" our booking and because of how they handled the issue (or, rather, didn't handle it) after it came to light. My partner and I booked a private room at the hostel over a summer long weekend (from Friday to Monday) directly on their website. We received an e-mail confirmation for the booking. However, when we arrived on the Friday, we were informed that our booking was only for the one night. Initially, the staff member on the desk blamed us for the issue, saying that we had changed the booking after we had initially made it (we had not) or had booked the wrong nights (we did not). At our insistence, he checked their online reservation system and confirmed that we were correct - we had booked for all three nights with no changes. He had no explanation for why our correct three-night booking was not showing up in their bed scheduling system. However, because of this, we had only been scheduled to be in the room for one night, and someone else had been able to book the room for the rest of the weekend. All of the other private rooms were fully booked. He reluctantly offered us beds in one of their large dorms - however, this was not a practical alternative for us (we were travelling with multiple bags/suitcases, including laptops, because we had planned for the private room we had booked). At no point did he offer any sort of discount or even an apology, saying only that he “felt bad”. In the end, after we spent a portion of the Friday calling around, we were fortunate enough to get a hold of a friend before they left town for the weekend and were able to stay at their place for the remaining two nights of our trip. If we had not had that as a resource, we would have been put in a bind - because it was a summer long weekend, a lot of the other options were fully booked or quite expensive. The hostel itself was fine - a bit run down and pricey for what it was, but consistent with other hostels in Canada. However, because of our experience, we will not be staying with them again and will be cautioning others not to do so either.

The Barefoot Hostel is an intimate, clean and comfortable stay for budget-conscious travelers, conveniently located in downtown Ottawa and only steps from some of Ottawa's key sites, including the Rideau Canal, Parliament Hill, University of Ottawa, Shaw Convention Center, USA Embassy, and Ottawa’s Byward Market, known for its trendy restaurants, bars and boutique shops. As of 2021, all of our 4 rooms are private, with shared bathroom and living facilities. Guests can enjoy complimentary wireless internet throughout the property and a fun and comfortable living and dining area. If you’re looking to stay in, we have a small kitchenette for light food preparation and a private patio in the back, equipped with a barbecue for those fun summer evenings!
Good things: clean and tidy, new towels everyday, nice big shower (upstairs - the downstairs was pretty tiny), big spacious lounge area, beds were comfortable, there were barely any people so we ended up with a private room without having to pay more. Not so good things: water ran cold after only three people showering (god knows what it would be like when the hostel is full), chairs in the lounge are super dodgy (watch out), kitchenette is badly equipped (eg, no teaspoons but there is a whisk!?), We weren’t allowed to wear our shoes at all inside the hostel (I guess for cleanliness?) and the windows which on the Hostelworld description are opening windows, are not allowed to be opened so the rooms feel quite close when you wake up in the morning. All in all, felt spacious bit was less than half full. I think when it was full it would feel cramped and small.

Samesun Toronto sits nestled in the downtown area, in Kensington Market, one of Toronto’s most eclectic and vibrant neighborhoods. Filled with copious trendy bars and award-winning fusion restaurants, a memorable night out is just around the corner, and at the end of the night, you’ll never be far from your cozy bed. If you feel like staying in, we’ve also got a well-equipped kitchen for you to cook your own meals and a TV room for movie nights. Did we mention we have free popcorn?
Love the area, Kensington market. It's very lively and multicultural. The room was nice too and the staff was friendly. On the downside, the breakfast was very basic and you had to wait in line and do some dishes, only to find out they were out of coffee.

Pring Guesthouse is Hamilton, Ontario's first and only backpackers' hostel! We have three private rooms, each with a double bed, from $60 per night, and two dormitories (one co-ed, one women only) which cost from $35 per person per night. We are located in the heart of downtown, steps from restaurants, entertainment and transportation. There are two on-site parking spots, and room in our backyard for sheltered bicycle parking. We have plenty of maps and tourist guides, and we are always willing to help out in any way we can. We also offer the following services and features:- Full Self Catering kitchen with stove and microwave. NO lockout or curfew. FREE wifi throughout the hostel. FREE parking (limited availability, first-come, first-served). FREE linens and towels provided. FREE secure lockers available to all guests. FREE tea and coffee. Comfortable common room for guests to socialize. Library fully stocked with maps, travel guides, reading material and games.
Great stay, convenient location, and great value for what we pay. The host was very helpful and welcoming. The bedroom and the common areas, showers, washrooms where very nice and tidy. Free Parking facilities available on site for upto two cars. I would highly recommend this place for people traveling on a budget.

South Algonquin Backpackers Hostel is now The Arlington Hotel! New owners, but still the same great place, and in the same great south Algonquin location.
Look, if you want a sparkling souless minimalist box, refitted with the latest plastic every 6 months then you should head for somewhere a few hundred miles south. The Arlington still has a sense of community, an expectation that people talk to each other and that not everything is an instagram opportunity. Sure, it looks old and the decor is tired. Sure the bathrooms are shared, but the food is top notch, the company is always willing to talk and the staff are wonderful. We stayed two nights, everything was clean, everything worked, we watched films with the locals, read great books, ate fantastic pizza and had wonderful conversations with people. I wish more places were like this.

Situated on the Burlington waterfront with Lake Ontario as its backdrop, The Pearle Hotel & Spa features elegantly appointed guestrooms & suites, expansive meeting & event space, two locally infused dining facilities and a luxurious spa.
We had an amazing staycation this weekend to celebrate my son‘s birthday! As a Titanium member this was our first stay in 2.5 years since covid and definitely a memorable one! They made our stay extra special by going over and above to accommodate all our requests and delivering a special dessert for my son as well as bubbles when we checked in. The hotel is beautiful and made us feel like we were in Florida overlooking the ocean instead of Burlington. The infinity pool was warm and inviting with nice lounge chairs and beds all around. Canada needs more autograph collection hotels like this one! Thanks again for an amazing stay! 5 stars all the way! And a special thank you to Vicky at the front desk who went over and above to help us before and during our stay! The customer service was phenomenal.

Stayed here for 2 nights as I needed somewhere cheap to stay. I would say it's pretty good value for money. Firstly, it is a student residence, used as a hostel in the holidays. This is a bonus as the building feels safe and staff are always present. The breakfast was good. It was great to have a private bedroom for the price. The neighbourhood was ok, I felt safe walking back on my own at night. The shared bathrooms were small but fine. Towels, bedding, a bar of soap and plastic cup were provided. I had access to the kitchen, which I didn't plan to use. There were no utensils at all so if you do want to cook for yourself, bring your own plates, cutlery, pans etc. There were quite a few free activities laid on, which looked good but I didn't have time to go to any. The bed wasn't the most comfortable. The pillow was plastic coated and the pillow case kept falling off. There was no air con. My room was at the front so there was a lot of street noise with the windows open. Also, the rooms are only single glazed so it's still noisy with the windows shut! Bring earplugs. These are only for the street noise. The hostel itself was surprisingly quiet. Note, you will need government ID (passport or driving licence) and a credit or debit card to check in.

Undoubtedly the most unique place I have ever stayed at. The hotel as a whole was a very friendly place to be. We initially arrived to 588 Dundas (the room we payed for) and they told us that they had no room. So they sent us across Chinatown to 16 Willison drive. But for this I am thankful. 588 Dundas ave was the textbook definition of a dump and the clerk was an absolute dike. 16 Willison was definitely much more my speed and I’m glad that we got moved. In regard to the room itself there were countless selling points First off, The mouse traps set up definitely made me more secure about the rodent infestation. I was initially worried about the shower being too weak, but lucky for me it came through the faucet as well as the ceiling for all angles of coverage. The water did flood the bathroom, but let me tell you the flooding really did a number on the ant population. I also really appreciated the presence of pillows, sheets, and blankets. They may have been slick with oil but I wasn’t bothered by it. A huge perk of the room was listening to beating moth wings at night, the white noise put me right to sleep. I also found the room layout very curious, never have I ever ridden a toilet side saddle before or used a fridge as a trash can. Everything on the property was very clearly labeled. The number 16 painted on the outside at least a dozen times. If we needed to get to the front desk and the door was locked they provided 8 phone numbers to call.

Either I have been in different place or the place changed a lot. Travelers home was clean, like hospital clean. You cannot walk in in your shoes (which is good) and there are fines for everything that gets broken, so maybe the approach changed over last year. It was not big, but as I mentioned - clean, with laundromat and close to the city center. Good for few nights stay.
