I loved everything about this hostel: the location, the safety (for a woman traveling solo), the open spaces for connecting with other guests, the delicious, healthy free breakfasts. Wifi was strong throughout the grounds. Hot showers!

Pros: Spacious, central hostel with cheap beds. Friendly staff, nice patio with a nice view onto Monte Alban and the city, table tennis and fitness room available. Not a party hostel. Has a kitchen. Free water and coffee. Clean. Laundry around the corner. Cons: I wasn't explained anything during the checkin, the staff speak hardly English (some don't at all which I find an absolute no-go for the size of this hostel) and the new guy there was absolutely not knowledgable about a lot of things an employee there should know. Helpful though. The kitchen equipment was bad. There was always a lack of spoons and glasses/cups. Moreover, there were no designated areas for "I'm leaving, take this stuff if you want to" and nobody put his name and departure date onto the stuff in the fridge. I recommended those things but it wasn't implemented (although a simple piece of cardboard would have done). The room was quiet only from ~23:30 to ~07:30. Some trucks and motorbikes were extremely loud. NO internet connection directly on my room 123, but there was enough space outside to sit where there is a connection. But even there, there was sometimes 10% packetloss and a ping of >200ms depending on how many people were using the internet. Well, overall a good experience but the hotel should definately improve on the kitchen situation.

Nice resting time, friendly breakfast and a warm welcoming are something you can get at Casa de Don Pablo hostel. You cannot miss it in Oaxaca! When coming Oaxaca, make our hostel your resting place to enjoy and explore the spotlights in the city. We have a comfortable choice of lodging for your style: private rooms en suite or private rooms with shared bathrooms and 4 bed and 10 bed dorms and female dorms, all of them with locker, fan, comfortable mattresses, you will have a nice sleeping experience. Casa de Don Pablo hostel is also well located in downtown of Oaxaca, some minutes walking from bars, galleries, colonial spots, museums, parks, coffee shops, markets and more. Just walk some steps and enjoy the city! Our breakfast is a complimentary; you can try some eggs, toast, turkey ham, coffee, milk, cereal, house made jam and fruit. There are markets nearby to buy groceries for cooking by yourself in our well equipped kitchen. We also provide WIFI, tours, touristic information and a big smile. When coming to Oaxaca, just join us! Be a happy traveler! Be a happy backpacker!
Let's be honest, you are in Oaxaca to soak up the culture, not to spend all the time at your hostel, for that reason Casa de Don Pablo is perfectly fine. The rooms are comfortable, if slightly dusty and worn. I stayed in a shared double with two twin beds and had plenty of space. We has to use the shared bathroom which was fine except that it was right off the courtyard so privacy was limited. Breakfast was standard but filling and the reception was friendly and helpful. All in all it is a great value, leaving you more money to spend on food and fun in the vibrant city of Oaxaca!

I stayed at this wonderful place on two separate occasions. Once in a private room and the other in a shared space. On both, I was greeted with great enthusiasm and real appreciation. The staff is courteous, the place is super clean, the neighborhood is safe and quiet and easy to walk around, there's quality restaurants around the corner (there's one two blocks away with superb breakfasts!), and since it is family-owned and operated, you will certainly see and meet the owners--who are incredible people, particularly Claudia! She will electrify you with enthusiasm for the city, the culture, the colors and flavors of Oaxaca, and the music especially as she herself is an artist and can point you in all the right directions! Stay here, you will not regret it!

We offer inexpensive accommodations in a friendly enviroment
The check in process was more difficult than it needed to be. First the receptionist booked us for the wrong night. No biggie, because we thought he cleared it up, then the next morning when we showed up with our stuff, they had two people booked in our beds and the staff were confused as to who we were?! It took a while to sort out. Luckily I had requested a receipt the night before, otherwise who knows? Then during check in process the little dog that's on the property bit me when he came up to me and I tried to pet him. One of the ladies (I think she was the owner) helped prep my wound and put peroxide and antibiotic cream on it, but they acted like it was normal and okay for the dog to bite guests! Not cool! I'm still wondering if I might have rabies! The owner assured me the dog doesn't have rabies... but being bitten on my vacation at a hostel wasn't part of my travel plans... why is a dog that bites people allowed to roam around on the premises? After going through other reviews on here I see that I'm not the first person this dog has bitten! This is not acceptable at all! The people at this hostel were really weird, not the hostels fault obviously, but everyone was either very pretentious and arrogant or angry for no reason, continously slamming the lockers, throwing their stuff around, banging on stuff, like they were having a bad night or something. We'd say hola or hello and they wouldn't respond. The guy my wife and I had to share a dorm with was super weird and creepy, luckily the night staff worker agreed to change our dorm room, and we ended up with a dorm all to ourselves! Nice. Also the guests at this place were some of the nastiest and dirtiest I've ever encountered in all my years of traveling, they had no respect for leaving the bathrooms clean! They didn't believe in flushing the toilets, they left soiled toilet paper pieces all over the stalls, someone shaved their beard and left the hairs all over the sink, disgusting! The location can't be beat, right near the Zocalo, and the property is big and clean. The dorm beds were spacious and very comfortable. Accordingly there's a shared kitchen and laundry service but we didn't use either, as we were there only one night. Had my wife and I not been given a private dorm room the night we stayed here I would find it hard to recommend this place, mainly because of the dirty guests and the biting dog, at least the price was right, but I think there are much better options in Oaxaca.

The place is a block from the bus station and the ‘main’ road. The Zócalo is about a 20 minute walk. The staff were helpful and speak English. The kitchen and rooms are clean and showers have hot water. The rooms are cozy and view from the rooftop is worth the climb.

The idea of our hostel is to have a space for the traveler feel at home and with a family atmosphere since the hostel is run by a Mexican family. Our intention is to make guests feel comfortable. We are located 2 blocks away from the Zocalo in Oaxaca, Oax. Mexico
What a nice, relaxed place. The people who work here are really friendly. Want to help you when you try to speak spanish, but they can also speak english very well. It's in the center, had good wifi, warm showers, nice beds, terrace, a kitchen where you can find all the equipment you need, lockers, relaxed travelers. What else do you want? So much better than the hostel next door.
