Karuna Guesthouse is a family-run guesthouse located in the North of Iceland. The farm is located on road 75, between Varmahlíð and Saudarkrokur. We offer all year accommodation, both in Gulluhús, a cozy house with 5 bedrooms, all twin /double rooms with 2 shared bathrooms with shower. In the old farmhouse that is newly renovated, is the lounge and 5 larger rooms that are all equipped with coffee/tea facilities and with a private bathroom with shower. These rooms accommodate one double room, two triple rooms, one quadruple room (family of four) and one family room for 5, they all have a private entrance. They are not included in Gulluhus, i.e. it needs to go outside to enter a shared kitchen and lounge. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare a great meal. We are located on a farm where we have a magnificent view, horses on grazing, hens on a paddock, and a few dogs at play. Here we offer comfort and peace
This is a great little hotel in a rural area of Iceland with very few accommodation options. They have kitchen facilities which were very helpful given that there are also few dining options in this area as well. Pro tip: stop and pick yourself up dinner groceries (maybe a Grandioso - most popular pizza in Norway!) at the grocery store in Blönduos. Be sure to research the hours - they close early (4pm on Sundays!). Travelers - be aware - the owner “advertises” leaving free items for you to cook for breakfast. Be prepared to arrive early or scavenge (or just bring your own). During our stay, one group of guests took over the kitchen and prepared their breakfast and lunch ( egg salad sandwiches ) with the supplies left for the guests (?) which left us and the other guests trying to politely manage sharing the last 2 pieces of bread and dry cereal. If this happens contact the owner who is willing to help. We did not know this until after our experience. In our communication with the owner, she clearly knows this has been a problem but has yet to remedy it (would recommend starting with a note in the kitchen stating 1 egg per guest please). Other than that - cute place. As noted in other reviews, the water does have a strong sulfur smell - but hey, what do you expect - it’s Iceland!!

Hafnarstræti Hostel offers capsule sleeping pods in Akureyri. Guests can choose from single or double bed capsules. Free WiFi is available and you will find a shared kitchen, gift shop, and shops at the property. Barbecue facilities are also available on site. Guests can enjoy various activities in the surroundings, including whale watching and cycling. Akureyri Church and Hof Cultural and Conference Center are about 350 m from Hafnarstræti Hostel. Akureyri Airport is 3 km from the property. We are located the town center!
Wow. This is VERY good for almost all travellers to Akureyri, and GREAT for single travelers on a budget. I am used to North American hostels. Hafnastraeti Hostel's capsule stay is a great concept. Every bed is private, but they offer as much space as a bunk bed, with a TV to yourself, stereo to yourself, and temperature control. You need not worry about a "bunkmate" who talks on the phone at night, wants to play loud music, or wants to wake early and turn on the light -- your capsule is ALL YOU. The socializing is GOOD. The hosts are an Icelandic family who want guests to feel comfortable. They provide a large dining area, a large lounge, and a nice outdoor deck overlooking restaurants and a kids' play area. Asta and her parents keep the hostel immaculately clean: kitchen dining area and restrooms stay nearly spotless. Finally, they are friendly, and the guests get a sense of warmth and caring. I will return! (Note they have large bed capsules for couples and parents with small children. Very smart.) Mark Greenstein

COUNTRY HOTEL IN NORTH-WEST ICELAND We are very excited to welcome you to our newly renovated two star hotel located at Húnavellir, just a few miles from Blönduós. At Hótel Húni we strive for a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all our guests. The hotel has 28 bright and cozy double and single rooms. We are located in the middle of some of the most beautiful landmark places in the north west. We are located just a few miles off the main road with a hot spring supply right on our land. To all our guests during the summer season, we offer a warm and calming bathing experience at our beautiful pool located right outside your window - a perfect place to relax in the midnight sun after a great day in the Icelandic nature. At arrival all guests are offered a guided tour through and around the building and are treated with a small home baked good from our kitchen a long with a cup of warm coffee or tea.
Had a lovely stay, the rooms are small but clean, the toilets and bathrooms are simple but clean. The outdoor swimmingpool is amazing!!! The breakfast was delicious fresh and plentiful. But the best thing about the hotel is the sunny, smily and beyond helpful staff who made us feel welcome and straight at home!

Great guesthouse located right in the heart of Akureyri with access to shops, restaurants, and pleasant walks throughout the city. Numerous parking accommodations nearby as well, with friendly staff explaining the process. The guesthouse itself is also attached to a restaurant for those wanting to dine without traveling too far, and an elevator in the back of the restaurant up to the rooms. The interior of the guesthouse to the rooms themselves were very clean and modernized, with cute quotes adorning the walls. I had a great view over the city streets as well from my room. Very pleasant for a one night stop during my Ring Road trip. Takk!

What we liked about the hostel: very helpful staff; many bathrooms; nice view. What we didn't like about the hostel: shaky bed (when you climb up, you can disturb your mate); you can hear people from other rooms; not ideally clean (esp showers)

We LOVED this guesthouse. We turned up on their doorstep without a booking and they let us in straight away - turns out we were their only guests for the night (being the middle of winter). The owners were super lovely and we chatted with them for quite a while. The whole place is very comfy and the shared bathroom is enormous. The location is quiet (like everywhere out this way), and has a really nice outlook. Plus, the breakfast was to die for! So good. For the price there's no way you can do any better.

This hostel is clean, tidy and has everything you need. What makes it spectacular is the location. If you're looking for peace and quiet close to nature there is no better place. And the view out of the kitchen window at sunset is unparalleled.

We've been all over Iceland and stayed in multiple amazing, beautiful places, by far this was the worst experience we've had ever in every way from customer service to the apartment itself (and not just in Iceland). When we came in (keep in mind it is a 5pm check-in which is late in and of itself) they told us it was self check-in and gave us information to get a key from a lock box. We followed the instructions and the key was not there -- we called them confused (after taking our suitcases up a flight of stairs -- there are no elevators), and they said they will call us back in 5-10 minutes after speaking with the manager. We waited with no call back, we had told them we had a car to return by 6pm and there was no street parking available in front of the building, but we didn't hear back until we called them back. They moved us to apparently a "deluxe", but really the same size apartment, and given we didn't see the earlier one there was no way of knowing if it was a "deluxe" upgrade. The new apartment given to us at 5:45pm was a building over and two flights up which we had to walk over ourselves with no "sorry for the inconvenience" from the team. Once there (with two suitcases and bags), we immediately noticed how incredibly hot it was -- the thermostat was set to 27.6 degrees C (82 degrees F). We tried to lower it to no avail, we called them about it and the general ridiculousness of the service and were told the manager was not available to discuss until the week later at the earliest (after 10 minutes of sharing the background). For the thermostat, we were told that people got cold in Iceland and that was normal. After a lot of argument, they sent someone up to tell us they didn't know what to do, that they always set every apartment to 21 degrees C. They told me they understood the frustration, but couldn't do anything to help us other than opening windows (which I had already done). Hour and a half later, every room (2 bedrooms, kitchen, living room) was still 26 degrees C or higher. Thank god for Expedia who helped to rebook us somewhere else that same night (while management claimed they fixed the issues -- we had pictures to prove otherwise). Despite the money lost in late car rentals, groceries bought to cook in our own place, we moved on at cost to us for our last night. Manager still has not called us back... Having never written a negative review, this is the first I feel is necessary for anyone traveling to Iceland. We've shared the same with Expedia and other agencies.

After sleeping in a tent around north iceland for 2 nights with rainy weather, my husband and I needed a bed to sleep for a change. We had previously booked in this place 2 years ago and already knew what to expect: hostel with shared bath, toilet & kitchen, 2 bunk beds per room. We were pretty happy with how the kitchen was fully supplied with cooking & dining utilities. Place can get a little loud at full occupancy because the walls & floors are thin. But for the most part, it was peaceful. Best part of the building was the dining area. Made of big glass windows where you see the sunset and nature. Excellent price as well for a hostel in Iceland. It was the best budget accommodation we had during our trip. A special mention to the receptionist from Poland, Malvena. Even with the long queue in front of her, she serviced every customer with professionalism. She gave us a good deal with the room even as walk in customers.
