We are 24 minutes north of Montañita, 3 minutes north of Ayampe and 13 minutes south of Puerto Lopez on the beach. Our Hotel are located right in front of the beach with panoramic sea views and direct access to the beach close to Las Tunas. We are between the tropical forest and the ocean, beside Machalilla National Park. This is a perfect starting point for many outdoors activities and adventures. This is a great Surf spot for beginners and advanced surfers with 2 waves: Viejamar and Las Tunas. If you want to learn, we offer Surf lessons for beginners in a friendly and quiet environment. You can cook and share a dinner, organize a barbecue, chill in the pool or drink a cold beer on our high level terrace enjoying a magical sunset. To keep the balance after an adventure, surf or quiet beach day, join us for a "Party Trip" to Montañita or a local party in one of our neighbor towns!
Viejamar is a wonderful hostel. The location is perfect, right on the beach near the village of Las Tunas. If you look for tranquility it’s the place to go to, you can relax at the hostel around the pool, on the balcony or in the chilling areas or at the beach. Everything is outdoors, you can sometimes spot hummingbirds, iguanas, crabs and many other birds. The staff is great, always here to make sure the guests get the best experience.

We are located at Santa Marianita`s beach, beside hotel service we also offer restaurant & bar services, we have our own Kitesurf, S.U.P and Surf School. Regarding our rooms, we have several options available (depending of number of people), they all have private bathroom and air conditioning. During your stay guests can make use of our facilities: open wi-fi, swimming poor for adults & children, bar, pool and our front sea cabin.
This hotel gave me a “good rate”They put me in a room with windows close to the ceiling away from from the beach. Couldnt see anything out the window because it was at ceiling level. The place was empty and i think i got the worst room in Mantinita. Not only was it a dark room that resembled a basement apt , workers drilled, and hammered the entire week. The only reason i stayed the week was cause I was sick. Not sure from where but i did eat there. Horrible week in the dark room on a beautiful beach. Terrible experience.

The Sundown Beach Hotel in Canoa is your best option in Ecuador and South America for an affordable, laid back beach stay. Canoa is considered one of the top-rated beach destinations by foreign travelers to Ecuador. Located along the Canoa south beach, the Sundown Beach Hotel is one of Canoa's oldest and most reputable establishments. Although close to town for easy access to shops, restaurants and social life, the hotel offers peace, serenity and privacy unavailable in downtown hotels. The long, uncrowded sandy beach stretches for kilometers in both directions from the hotel. No vendors or weekend crowds on the beach, no businesses competing for attention with blaring music from overworked speakers, no unsolicited noises at night from the room next door. The Sundown Beach Hotel is also home to the Canoa Spanish Language School, arguably the most popular combination of Spanish school and beach stay option in South America. Since the year 2000, Canoa offers the best learning atmosphere and the lowest priced complete Spanish tutoring packages in Ecuador.
Canoa is where you go to escape the throngs of people at the beach. It is 'not' a Myrtle Beach, South Carolina nor an Ocean City, Maryland. There are only 3,500 people in Canoa so it is not a huge gathering place for beachgoers. The Sundown Beach Hotel is even more remote as it is a thirty minute walk south of Canoa. When my wife and I walked from Canoa to the hotel, we were the only ones on that stretch of beach. This hotel is nothing fancy. It reminds me of a 1960s or 1970s motel at the North Carolina coast. It is really a basic place to stay. There is no air conditioning in the rooms. Hot water is non-existent at the sink so if you have to shave, it is cold water. There is a small bedside table, and an area off to the side to put your belongings. We had a second floor room with a balcony. Because we were a floor up, the ocean breeze helped keep the room cooler. A hammock was on the balcony to enjoy the ocean view and the salt air. Like many hotels in Ecuador, our bed was a double size. For taller people, it is a tight fit. Landscaping is absolutely lovely at the Sundown Hotel. There are numerous colorful tropical plants as well as a fountain in the sandy courtyard. Three tables with chairs are in the courtyard to eat and have adult beverages. Several hammocks are available to use on the very short walk to the ocean. At the dune line, there are three benches that have a thatched roof over them. It is a very nice place to sit and enjoy El Pacifico. Breakfast can be eaten in the courtyard or inside the dining hall. It is our understanding that the dining hall will be converted into a full service restaurant by the end of the year. One of the family members that owns the hotel is a chef in Canada, and his soon-to-be wife is a chef, too. They will be running the new restaurant. Until then, you can get dinners prepared for you for an extra charge. We both had a delicious seafood dinner one night. The entire staff is excellent and very friendly. They are super friendly and helpful. We had to leave early, but the gentleman who cooks the breakfasts offered to come in early to cook our morning meal. The manager helped my wife with her jellyfish sting. His local first aid treatment was very simple and effective. This place is really a three-star hotel, but the customer service bumped our rating up a notch. If you want something very affordable with just basics, the Sundown Beach Hotel is an excellent choice for you.

We focus more on fun, chill, nice vibes. We welcome any backpacker who has good stories to tell, whatever the age. We offer large social areas, a common kitchen and clean rooms (dorm, family or cabana), each with its own private bathroom. We'll also provide you with multiple activities on site or in the area but reading a book in a hammock enjoying an ocean view is also part of the experience!
I was lucky enough to arrive at Onda before it had opened and spend a total of several months there volunteering, so I saw a big part of the early evolution if this amazing place, and got to know it’s owners Mat and Maribel really well. The hostel itself is super comfy and is really well equipped; the dorms are spacious with nice beds and the essential mosquito nets, the bathrooms are clean and the showers have hot water, the private cabanas are personal, cute and have two small patios with seats and hammocks to lay the day away, and the entire hostel has lots of nice little spots to hang out and enjoy the beautiful weather. And best of all, the kitchen is huge, and becomes a really fun common space to meet other travellers and share chats and card games. Staying for a while, you notice that guests that arrive at Onda tend to stay a little longer than anticipated, and I think that speaks to how comfortable and fun the hostel is, both for it’s amenities and for the atmosphere. It has a familiar, personal vibe (or onda?) and that’s a credit to the owners Mat and Maribel and the volunteers that they attract to be a part of the team. Once you meet them and the resident dog and cat, Gallito and Tortilla, it becomes pretty hard to leave. Add the beach with it’s warm water and fun waves, and a tasty breakfast everyday, and you have a combination that’s hard to beat. Oh and make sure you get upstairs or to the beach to watch the sunset! Thanks guys!

Our building is 200 meter away from the beach. We offer to our guests an unforgettable journey experience in the centre of Puerto Lopez in the way to letting them meet with the people and learn about their culture as well as the various attractions that the area offers. We speak: Italian / German / Spanish / English
This hostel was one of the best hostels we stayed at in all of our time in Ecuador. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean. The kitchen was very nice to use as the food in puerto Lopez was not the best. Our favorite were the hammocks. I’m very hot days the hammocks keep cool with a breeze and is the ultimate place to hangout. This hostel is very layed back and was by far the best sleep we got in our entire trip.

Probably the best place to enjoy the beach and the atmosphere of canoa. It survived the earthquake and some areas are in reconstruction. We were friendly welcomed and advised here, where the rooms are clean, the location perfect and the price very affordable. Go ahead!
