The 10 Best Hop-On Hop-Off Tours in Ollantaytambo, Cusco Region

November 29, 2021 Marianna Hollaway

Ollantaytambo has some of the oldest continuously-occupied buildings in South America. Once a stronghold of Inca resistance to Spanish colonization, it's remarkably well-preserved. Many travelers visit Ollantaytambo because it's the beginning of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, but don't rush through—the ruins are fascinating.

Adolfo is the most attentive guide you will ever have in any vacation. The World Explorer crew was available to us 24/7 via phone and Whatsapp so it was always easy to communicate. The tours where very organized and on time. The guides where extremely helpful when it came to explaining but also had a lot of patience when it came to waiting for the group to take their photos. The food offered in the tours is delicious and clean. The prices were amazing, even if you are to sign up for a private tour i doubt you could find something cheaper of the same quality anywhere. There are many things to do in Cuzco, from the sacred valley, to the salt mines, the city tour, the rainbow mountain, Machu Picchu and many other activities. If you want a full complete tour, look no further than world explorers.

If you are looking for a cool and amazing experience, then I highly recommend Itinerant, their first hand knowledge of all the places that we visited is by a long shot far better than anything I've ever read about Cuzco. And if you get along with them, by the end of the trip they might invite you back to hang out with the locals for a full night of conversation, eating and drinking.

Visiting the "Sacred Valley of the Incas" is absolutely a must for all those travelling between Cusco and Machu Picchu. Last October, after visiting the awesome Cusco, the ancient capital of the Incan Empire, we headed to the ruins of the citadel-fortress of "Sacsayhuaman". Then, "Taray" (with incredible views of the valley) and "Pisac" (the archaeological park and the city's typical market). We stayed overnight in Urubamba, continuing the next morning to the archaeological complex of "Chinchero", visiting also its local market and colonial church. Then, we visited the salt ponds of "Maras", followed by the round agricultural terraces of "Moray" and ending at the archaeological park of "Ollantaytambo" and again at its popular market, as it is almost impossible to skip the numerous colorful souvenir shops. An unforgettable two full days at the "Sacred Valley of the Incas"! Next stop: Machu Picchu tomorrow! Enjoy!

Had a great time in Peru and Fernando contributed a lot to this. He helped with planning our tours throughout our vacation, gave lots of advises and even came out of his working hours just to help us book a tour for the next day. We booked with CuscoManta Tour our excursions to Machu Picchu with overnight in Aguas Calientes, Sacred Valley, Lake Titicaca with overnight on Amantani Island, Rainbow Mountain and the Salineras. Great line up of the tours, pick-up from the hotel for most of them, good to medium food service provided that was included in the tour's price and good guides. A minus for the guide Christopher who was always acting fast-forward and was kind of bored while doing his job.
