Offers a recreated settlement of the 1920s.
Great place to check out artifacts and learn about the early days of settling in the Methow valley area. There is a great deal of fascinating information available here and many interesting pieces of mining and other equipment to check out. Even though the buildings are closed due to the covid pandemic there are many informative plaques to read as you walk around the buildings and learn about what life was like in the area over 100 years ago. If you visit Winthrop and have any interest and history, this is a place you cannot miss checking out.

Historic Flight Foundation offers a collection of the most important aircraft produced between 1927 and 1957 - all restored and airborne again. Our mission goes beyond serving as trustees of an era. We want you to experience the roar of our F8F “Wampus Cat” taking off. Watch engineers at work restoring the aircraft to flying condition. Share the rush of viewing international treasures from all angles. Experience history in motion.
A panel of three WW II pilots shared their experiences at Saturday's event. So many stories there and so much experience was shared; then we shifted outdoors to see two WWII planes fly over the field in formation. Several other planes were featured with docents who could answer your questions. All the planes are maintained to be flight worthy at any time.

The Dayton Historic Depot is the oldest standing depot in Washington state. Built in 1881, it was moved to its present location in 1899 by capstan and horses. After it closed in 1971, the Dayton Historical Depot Society placed the Depot on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, then they refurbished the building and opened as a museum in 1981. Presently, the first floor of the depot has been re-created to appear as it did in 1899. The upstairs, where the Station Agent and his family lived, contains a Gallery that has rotating exhibits. The freight room houses a gift shop of Depot memorabilia, western history books, low technology games, and unique gifts for that special hostess or friend.

Dave King and his wife, proprietors of the museum, are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The collection of agricultural equipment and artifacts, with some logging implements, well presented and with descriptions, is spread over a huge area. (For instance, I did not know that Lamborghini, which is known for high-end fancy automobiles, also made tractors. There are three or four at the King Museum.)

In 2012 the museum opened its 25,000 square foot Mary & Bruce Stevenson Wing, featuring a dedicated arts education suite, a cafe with terrace seating and sweeping views of the Gorge and Mount Hood.
I have always wanted to cross over from Oregon, to go across the river and visit this museum. The history of Sam Hill was super interesting. The location and building, with the view Sam Hill loved, is very picturesque. I have seen older pieces and art work, in other museums, but if you like history, and stories, and human interest, check this place out.

Museum on the history of Chelan county.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but this did not disappoint. We took a guided tour with a tour guide and learned a lot. They have so many Salis artificacts inside, it was really neat to hear all about this history of the local Native Americans along with artifacts. There were many collections there of all kinds of other things as well: artwork, animals, petrified wood, and fossils. Was definitely a great experience.

This National Historic Site marks the location of the Waiilatpu Mission, a Presbyterian mission ministering to the Cayuse Indians from 1836 to 1847. The mission, a way station for Oregon Trail pioneers, ended tragically with the killing of missionaries by the Cayuse.
If you are interested in a glimpse of the native american and pioneer struggle this is a fascinating snap shot. The documentation of what happened to the Whitman family and is a story that stretches time. I went with my 4 year old and she walked the entire park. The interpretive center was full of things for her little hands to touch and the Ranger was very kind in explaining everything too.

Being a former teacher, I always look for place to explore local history. The museum does that for sure. You pick up some great insights into Yakima and the local area. We take out of town visitors here often.
