The Hull People's Memorial Museum is a small, volunteer operated, museum of Kingston upon Hull and its citizens during the World Wars of the 20th century. Admission is free and we are accessible to all. We are subject to the restrictions currently in place due to the covid-19 pandemic which means that our 'please touch & handle' policy has had to be suspended and, unfortunately, it is 'strictly hands off' until we are told otherwise by H.M. Govt. The museum is currently closed due to the pandemic restrictions, but the gift shop is now open as usual. Our apologies for any disappointment this may cause.
Very helpful service, even whilst in lockdown. I needed some help regarding my late father's war history and Alan pointed me in the right direction

The museum tells the story of the transatlantic slave trade and its abolition, as well as dealing with contemporary slavery. Galleries also offer a fascinating glimpse into West African culture. The permanent displays at Wilberforce House include journals and items that belonged to William Wilberforce, including original costume. There are many significant items linked to slavery and the campaign to abolish it. Recently opened galleries contain wonderful displays of local crafstmanship, clock-making, Hull silver collection, the East Yorkshire Regiment and Edwardian Hull Last entry 15 minutes prior to closing
We visited based on the recommendation of a BBC book of 100 places that shaped the UK. The museum is based in William Wilberforce’s family home & is now within a vibrant museum quarter in Hull. There is a wealth of information, set out attractively & accessibly, on the house, the history of slavery, Wilberforce’s political battle to end the slave trade, the Middle Passage, the slave experience, the aftermath of slavery, African culture & contemporary slavery. We didn’t manage to see everything in the time that we had. A great visit & it’s free!

Skidby Mill is a working four-sailed tower windmill, set in over an acre of land with magnificent views over the Wolds. The mill is unusual in still having all its original outbuildings around the courtyard. Some of these have been converted to form the Museum of East Riding Rural Life. In December 2019 the mill's sails were removed for routine assessment and maintenance and are currently being worked on by our Millwrights. In line with Government Covid-19 guidelines, we are currently closed until further notice.
Lovely setting with cafe and restaurant closeby - very interesting insight into rural life in East Yorkshire with very informative guide. Could be under threat of closure so please support.

11am to 4pm with last admission at 3:30pm FREE on street parking NO DISABLED ACCESS. Entrance to the museum via staircases. A Monastic Gatehouse housing a museum and collection of local artifacts. The word Bayle is derived from the French Baille meaning 'enclosure' or 'ward'. Archaeological surveys of the Bayle have concluded that a large proportion of the building dates to the late 12th Century. The initial use is thought to have been a gatehouse to a castle built by William le Gros after he took control of the Bridlington Priory in 1143. In the 14th Century the Bayle was the Gatehouse to the Bridlington Priory. Since the dissolution of the Bridlington Priory the Bayle has been used for many different purposes including a Prison, Court, School, Garrison, Non-conformist meeting place, Town Hall and meeting room for the Lords Feoffees. Today the Bayle is a Grade I listed Building and scheduled Ancient Monument, which makes it of great interest historically and architecturally.

PLEASE CHECK THE HULL CULTURE & LEISURE WEBSITE FOR FURTHER INFORMATION PRIOR TO YOUR VISIT
A brilliant few hours to be spent in here exploring and learning. As suggested, it is largely 'hands-on', with practical things for the kids to do. There's a darkened room with a mummy in there, a school room with the opportunity to learn how school and household tasks were completed in the past, plus a Punch and Judy. Interesting, educating and keeps the kids occupied! Good to visit when going to Holy Trinity Church and/or King Billy Statue

The East Riding Treasure House is a heritage centre providing museum, library and archive facilities under one roof, plus access to the adjoining Edwardian exhibition spaces of the Beverley Art Gallery. The Treasure House tower provides splendid views over the rooftops of Beverley.
Stepping into this library was a blast from the past the building is very traditional and they have a separate room for children which was wonderful. We attend the tiny treasures group with our 1 year old and it's fantastic. Staff are great for helping you find the right book and the machines are so easy to use.
