The mutlifunctional Alfa palace lies on the corner of Jánská and Poštovská streets and connects to buildings on náměstí Svobody (Freedom Square) through a passage. The grandly conceived block of flats with a shopping arcade was built by František Hrdina according to plans originally by Bohuslav Fuchs and later modified.

A lesson on the history of minting is presented in a cellar. The area under Dominikánské náměstí (Dominican Square) is now the home of an exhibition of the Mint Master’s Cellar and the reconstructed cellars of Nová radnice (the New Town Hall). The exhibition shows the nearly forgotten craft of mintage in Brno and Moravia, and it illustrates how the square above, once Rybný trh (the Fish Market), also called Forum Piscium, has developed over the centuries since the Middle Ages. It also shows the history of the Gothic Královská kaple (Royal Chapel) that was located in the lower part of the square until the beginning of the 20th century. The cellars are located under the New Town Hall, a current seat of the municipal government, and the exhibition features an audiovisual presentation of the history and presence of the statutory city of Brno. And from time to time, experienced mint masters have been known to show off their artistic skills here.

This imposing 13th-century castle first served as a fortress and then as a prison for common criminals and opponents of the Hapsburg monarchy.
n good weather, I recommend climbing the green hill to Špilberk Castle. This castle has been standing for more than 700 years, it was built in the Gothic and Baroque style. What I like most is the monument to the commander of the battles with the Swedes in the 17th century. There is also a nice view of Brno from Špilberk.
