The world's largest coral reef system, the Great Barrier Reef stretches almost 1500 miles into the Pacific from the tip of Queensland. Designated a Marine Park by the Australian government and a World Heritage Area by UNESCO, the reef is home to an extraordinary abundance of species and habitats. Snorkeling, diving and fishing are rightly popular along the reef, nowhere more so than on the Whitsunday Islands, where the silica sands and aqua waters of the Coral Sea create the perfect beach escape.

This is quite unique to have a monument in Australia that is a memorial of the United States 5th Air Force memorial. On November 4 1942 the 5th Air Force went after the Japanese in Papua New Guinea. They continued to attack the Japanese and save the Papua New Guinea. In 1945 they were part in the Battle of Okinawa. This is why there is a small obelix in Townsville. It has 8 sides and it is about 1.2 meters high. All is written here of what happened. The flag of the United States and the Australian are proudly near this monument.

The amount of information in here is amazing. It's set out in chronological order, so as you walk through you see the transition from Cook's visit to present day. It's worth more than the mere $5 they charge for admission.

The Innisfail Temple is a Temple of all Religions founded on Eastern Principles. The Innisfail Temple is a functioning Temple and Visitors are welcome to meditate, to admire the Temple or to enjoy its History. Visitors are invited to share in the calmness that the Temple offers to those who seek Tranquility.
My wife and I often visit our Chinese and other friends at the Temple on Sunday mornings - social visits. This must be one of the best kept Chinese Temples in Australia with a history going back to original settlers in Innisfail. The temple has many artifacts preserving its rich history.

We wanted to check out the historic buildings along Quay Street and found a brochure which listed the buildings and had a short history on each one. Well worth doing if you want to discover Rockhamptons early history.
