Built by Christopher Columbus's son between 1510 and 1514, this restored building was one of the first structures built in the oldest remaining European city in the Americas.
Excellent piece of preserved real estate! Located in the Zona Colonial, this should be on your must see list.

This convent is the site of the first university constructed in the Americas in 1538.
This church is just fascinating.. goes from symbolism, architecture and history. It offers you self guided tour which is great, you can take your time and its very cheap. Eveything in there has its place on what the religion actually is... :) enjoy

One of Santo Domingo's main gathering places, this plaza has a bronze statue of Columbus at its center.
Perfect to sit down and people-watch. Lots of activities at the park - performers, music, food, and a beautiful church.

We are an a cultural institution, whose primary fundamentals are highlighting the figure of our National Hero General Gregorio Luperon. Besides being a compendium of the lifestyle of the 19th century. We are a historic cultural center a place of education and entertainment, provided that such spaces are necessary for cultural and social life of all people.
This was a well done museum tour walk thru with guide (for free- but tip at the end). Our guide was very nice and spoke well in English. She had only been working there a few months but seemed interested in what she was teaching us. The exhbits are small and it is a quick tour but completely important when traveling in the DR to understand the important of General Luperon. It was clean, air conditioned, and inexpensive. Do it!
