Armenian Martyrs Memorial

Reviewed By robbygc - Toronto, Canada

The Armenian Martyrs Memorial is really sad. Many were in lamentation. Nobody wanted to hear from them. The monument is dedicated to the 1,500 000 Armenian Victims of the of the genocide in Turkey from 1915-1921. Two huge stones explain it. It was sad for humanity. Worthwhile that can happen to any country.

Orpheum Theater

Reviewed By L_Schafer_426 - Phoenix, United States

I've been here for a few events, I think this last event was enthralling. The Theater was built to play Silent Films, and I attended a Silent Sunday event.. accompanied by the Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ, played by Brett Valliant. I'd liked Silent Films for some time, my wife, mmm not so much. But we saw "Sunrise - A Song of Two Humans" from William Fox. For both of us the experience was enthralling, the Organ cannot be appreciated outside the theater. It absorbs you and brings you into the world presented in the film. It's been sometime sense the world disappeared and I was pulled into an experience. Back in the day, the Orpheum Theaters, were built to be a destination which played movies and hosted events. Each cities movie palace reflected a trait of the city in which it was built. (I remember coming here when I was in grade school). The building went through a couple of other incarnations, but was restored by the city of Phoenix. Thankfully it was not knocked down and lost.

Rosson House Museum

The Rosson House Museum is a fully-restored 1895 Queen Anne Victorian house museum which interprets the history of Phoenix. Tours of the house include all living areas and offer visitors a glimpse into the lifestyles of early Phoenix families. Admission to the Rosson House Museum is by guided tour only, with masks required and limited tour capacities to keep our community safe. Tickets are available in person and online on our website.

Very enjoyable tour! The house is beautiful and beautifully decorated with pieces from the era, if not original to the house. The tour guide was very cheerful and knowledgeable. We were lucky to have a history buff in our tour who asked lots of great questions, allowing us to learn about cool things like an old fashioned foot warmer, a disinfectant drum, and a pie locker. Try to ask questions about anything odd looking, you’ll be in for some fun tidbits! There is parking right next to Heritage Square and if you take the tour (at this time the only way to see the house), then they will validate the parking for you and save you $11 :) The tour itself was $15 per person I think. Definitely worth a visit!

Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza

Reviewed By jsblondie63 - Safford, United States

I have been to downtown Phoenix many times over the years for business and have never had the time to walk through the plaza and really had no idea what was there. In October 2019 I arrived an hour and a half early for a meeting, I found a parking spot in the plaza, from where I parked I realized I could see two very large 16 inch guns from the USS Arizona. As I walked closer I saw the signal tower and one of her anchors and a beautiful display for the sailors who lost their lives. The entire plaza is full of memorials from the USS Arizona, Navajo Code Talkers all branches of the military and law enforcement, even a beautiful statue honoring Father Eusebio Kino. I enjoyed walking the plaza and spending time at each memorial. I plan on going again so I can spend more than an hour. It's a for history buffs and people that just want to pay respects.
