I love old churches. The stained glass , astronomical clock, and the statue of Christ by the altar are all worthy of a stop on your meandering walk through Lyon.

A market with live fowl, meats, great cheeses, vegetables and flowers. Packed with people inspecting and buying all under a superb medieval roof - the Saturday market is absolutely great and appreciated by locals and visitors. Plenty of bars too with tables outside inviting for a rest and an apero.

Tower of Crest

The tower of CREST, listed in the register of historical monuments stands proudly at the gateway to the Vercors From the terasse of this, at (52 metres, the highest Donjon of France,a striking view unfolds across the Drome valley and surrounding mountains. On the inside, the tower comes alive with its lightings, sound effects, furnshings, models and explanations recounting 900 years of history. The medieval Tower with its battlements and lord's residence recreates the life of feudal times. Between the15th and the19th centuries, the Tower served as a prison for protestants, libertines and republicans and the graffiti left on its walls evoke the prisoner's sense of rebellion, their suffering and their hopes .

We, and especially the kids loved climbing the tower and its chamber. The views on top are majestic and the castle is renovated very nicely. Really impressive and a must see if you visit the region.

Cite medievale de Perouges

Reviewed By gfsc5 - Perth, Australia

This restored medieval village is well worth a visit if you're into history and architecture. The streets and lanes are all paved with cobblestones and most of the houses are built with stone. It's impossible to get lost as the main street is circular. It's based around a town square with a 200yo linden tree. And some nice restaurants. Take the time to visit the museum - only 5 euro - not least so you have the chance to climb the tower which gives great views over the village roofs and the surrounding countryside. It's one of those places where it's impossible to take a bad photo.
