From start to the end of the trial and back, it.s a quiet walk with very nice views. Also, half-way you can go into the bush to climb to the Sugar Loaf, great experience.

This is the first hill up on the way to Rio's famous Sugar Loaf. It offers it's own marvelous view from the top (215 meters) but its base is also a good place for hiking.
God, what a beautiful place !!! There could be no other expression to say what we feel when we visit Morro da Urca, located in the Marvelous City of Rio de Janeiro. You know that URCA means - Urbanization Carioca. This has to do with the Engineering and Earthmoving and Urbanization Company that at the time carried out with the residues of the Morro do Castelo deforestation, in which much of that removed soil was taken and placed there surrounding the sugar loaf and Morro daurca. It really is very beautiful, different and one of the most complementary views of the Sugar Loaf. (In time: it is called Pão de Sçucar because in the years of colonization, the sugar was dark - not refined - and it was packed in containers that when uninformed, let him with that same drawing of the Urca Stone. an enormous and huge basalt located at the entrance of the Guanabara Bay, an impressive natural view that exists in Rio de Janeiro and is recognized anywhere in the world. It draws attention to the details and intelligence of the engineering work that demonstrates how much human ingenuity can perform It is one of the most beautiful postcards in the world and I am sure you will remember this testimony when you visit it.Go, visit, photograph, walk, breathe and feel the unique landscape of this place. And from above, shout out loud: Long live Mother Nature !!!

This hike was an amazing experience. It was without a doubt the most challenging hike I've ever done. But, I'm so glad I did it. The varied terrain along the way was beautiful and the views were out of this world. The vertical nature of the majority of the trail was more challenging than I anticipated and the group had to make multiple stops along the way in order for all of us to catch our breath. But, I loved the fact that there was climbing involved, including ropes and permanent cables attached to cliff faces. Not anything beyond the capabilities of most people, but, you must be in good physical condition to make this hike. Upper body strength is important on the way down as you often have to support yourself with your arms in order to lower your feet down to the next foot hold. Your legs will be jelly by the end. One of our hikers threw up several times on the way up. And another had issues with vertigo on some of the more exposed and cliff side trails at the higher elevations. But, the views from the top are incredible and a great payoff for all the hard work.

We visited the mountain here as part of the "real" favela tour organised by Aurora Hostel (as opposed to the tourist agency government propaganda ripoff safari tours), visiting from the adjacent favela around midday. The favela is an easy walk from Leblon beach, just past Sheraton's monstrosity, and you can either walk through the favela up the hill or take a Moto taxi up to the park where the nature trail begins. The trail is a good 45minute hike (if you're fit) up the mountain, with a lot of steep climbs and some occasional slippery paths. It is recommended not to try it at all if it has been raining. Nature is rife up the trail, and if you are lucky (and bring some fruit with you) you could get lucky enough to see some monkeys on your way. Alternatively, even more rarely, snakes have been known to inhabit some of the trees about midway up. Towards the summit, the plant life gets increasingly more compact, making the walk a bit difficult, but at the top you are rewarded with a flat rocky plateau with panoramic views all over the south side of Rio, from Copacabana beach to Rocinha favela. Absolutely, this mountain climb is a must do for nature and hiking lovers, and the view is even more spectacular than the one from Sugarloaf or Corcovado.

Nature at it´s best. Well... You can get at the begining of the mountain by bus, car, horse or simply, walking. It's a long walk uphill, make sure you bring water!! Along the way you'll see all kinds of trees and plants. But once you get to the top, it is marvilous... beautifull... Take you camera... you must register the moments!
