Whether you are looking for sun-drenched beaches or outdoor activities in beautiful countryside, New Jersey has plenty to offer. Those who love the great outdoors should head for the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, which runs along the Delaware River for forty miles. Here you can go rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking or fishing, or simply admire the stunning waterfalls. There is a huge range of hiking trails to choose from as well as historic sites to visit. In winter, you can enjoy cross-country skiing near Blue Mountain Lakes, and birdwatchers might be lucky enough to catch sight of bald eagles. If you are looking for a change, visit one of New Jersey's eleven lighthouses that are open to public, such as the one in Cape May. For art and history enthusiasts, New Jersey State Museum in Trenton has historic artifacts and American fine art from the nineteenth century to the present day as well as a Planetarium.

Drove down to one of the parking areas off the interstate and took photos. Gorgeous. A must see by foot or car!

This is a hidden gem, miles to explore with great views. For the younger set there are gnome houses that are maintained along the trail. Many good places to stop for a quick bite. The trail is very flat and level, so an easy "hike" for all. If you want to enjoy the whole length, pack water and be ready for a long walk. Parking is available throughout the length.

I took my 15 y.o. and 8 y.o. on a hike of Pochuck Boardwalk and the Stairway to Heaven. The boardwalk was a very interesting place, although I wouldn't really call that a hike. It's more of a nature walk. Beautiful photo opportunities the whole way. Then you cross the road and end up on the Stairway to Heaven- the real hike! Get there early enough and the parking becomes a non-issue. I recommend this to everyone I speak to, you should do it too!

A jewel in the Monmouth County Park System - the Henry Hudson Trail is a fantastic place to take a walk - paved and quiet - The best outcome from an abandoned railroad path. There are some interesting artifacts from days gone by along the sides of the trail to look at... and if you like to geo-cashe there are lots of locations to explore along the paths. You can walk your dog, ride a bike, or just take some "me" time to relax along the path.
