I have come to this campground a few times and must say it have been amazing and gets better with each visit! bathrooms are always clean and the staff friendly. Not sure if its the area or the common space of campers but I have met some wonderful people at other campsites LOL. I give it 10 stars !!!

Clay Island Trailhead

As a travel nurse I always like to get to my area and seek out some off the beaten track trail runs . I Usually look at trail running and the equivalent like going to church. Well I have to say this church is highly recommended there are a few different loops and a few different trail heads. I chose this one from a review on here, he stated “it drops you right into the action” and i’m not sure because I haven’t approached it any other way but it really was perfectl brings you right to the loops.

Palatlakaha Environmental and Agricultural Reserve - Pear Park

Had a delightful morning exploring this park with some volunteers who were well versed in all of the history, wildlife and fauna and has access to the nature center. It's a level, easy walk around the entire park and there are numerous options to take shorter hikes. Not the best time of year for plant life and wildlife, but still enjoyed immensely.

Crooked River Preserve

Places can be shallow in the dry season, so make sure you have a navigator watching the depth from the bow. And in places the river can get a bit narrow, so two large vessels (like pontoons) may have to work out who's going to reverse so the other can pass. It's a great place to see wildlife, and pretty much the only passage to get from Lake Louisa to the rest of the chain of lakes. If you're in a hurry, you're going to have a bad time.

This little spot is terrific. Fun hiking -- especially if you're a geocacher. Close in to town. Composting toilets, so you can spend some time. Bring your own water and look for the wildlife.

Lots of paths and great views. We get good exercise and my 5yr old loves exploring around the beautiful creek with flowing water.
