The Annandale Way is a 56 mile (90km) long distance walking route starting in the hills above Moffat and following the River Annan down to the Solway Estuary at Annan. It was originally developed by Sulwath Connections and local communities in 2009 with the support of local estates and farmers to help promote Annandale as a new area for walking.

Mabie Forest, the original mountain biking venue in the south west of Scotland. Mabie lies just a few miles south of Dumfries and caters for beginners right through to the most expert of riders.
We did the longest trail which was a very varied walk. We got absolutely drenched in a downpour about 1/3 of the way round and didn't see anyone for most of the remainder of our walk. It's a nice place to visit for a walk.

A quick stop off revealed an amazing gem. Red squirrels Red kites Red legged partridge Lots of awesome red stuff! Whilst enjoying the squirrels from the hide we also had nuthatch and sparrowhawk close in.

Second time I have walked the circular Loch route (done it both ways). The views are breathtaking and some nice points to stop at going round including Bruce’s Stone and a picnic bench on the opposite shore giving great view up the loch. The walk itself is not overly taxing with only a few steep parts but not difficult. The full route took 2hrs 40min to complete for me and my wife with a good couple of stops including lunch/photos etc. When driving to the carpark continue beyond the visitor centre carpark which charges you as the start is a bit further up the road at a free carpark

This is a lovely out of the way walk, round the most beautiful reserve. Well tended , a very good compact Visitor Centre. A walk to the viaduct along the disused Railway and return to the centre , amid sheep and other wildlife is pleasant with more arduous walks available.

So, we began the Upland walk at Portpatrick and were soon clinging to the land-side of a cliff walk. Scary at times for a novice no matter what your age, and demands great care. We only went as far as the second bay and then returned via a forest walk. That was enough for us, but it was exhilarating . Proper shoes and gear definitely required. After rains the paths can be very slippery.
