The 10 Best Hidden Gems Things to do in Cape Town Central, Western Cape

May 29, 2021 Sheron Bogner

Cape Town glistens at the southern toe of the African continent. Tourist brochure-views at Blaauwberg Beach and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens are within easy driving distance of "The Mother City." The Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve provides sweeping sea vistas, hiking trails and wildlife encounters. On a more somber note, travelers can visit Robben Island, the prison where Nelson Mandela was held for 27 years.

Gamidah is really such a great host, tour guide and cooking instructor that it’s hard to give enough superlatives. Delightful and friendly, she knows the Bo Kaap area like only a local can! Our two boys (aged 11 and 13) loved the tour and cooking and got their hands dirty (after thorough cleaning). The food was wonderful and a joy to cook. We learned how to make Samosa, chilli bites, Roti, Chicken Curry and a great tomato sambal. Both boys said this was now their favourite cuisine. Highly recommended, and if you contact them directly, you get a much better rate than here or viator. This is great and a good give back compared to just turning up and taking photos without giving anything to the community.

Sandboarding Cape Town

Sandboarding is similar to snowboarding except its done on sand dunes. You meet me at the dunes parking area(or i can provide transport for you), we jump in my 4x4 and drive into the dunes, where we begin the sandboarding training, at your own pace we start to move up to the bigger dunes, total duration is 3 hours. I drive you in a 4x4 vehicle to the top of the dunes then you sandboard down and i pick you up and drive you to the top again. The experience is unique and a combination of trying a new activity the sandboarding, being driven off road in a 4x4 vehicle and the beautiful scenery of the Atlantis dunes and its pure white sand and Table mountain and the Atlantic ocean in the background. Booking Essential.
