Casa Jose Saramago

The house museum of José Saramago, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1998 is a real immersion in the universe of the Portuguese writer. The guided tour includes first the house and the garden, then the private library and its various work spaces.

A fabulous intimate tour of Jose Saramago’s home in Lanzarote. Alba our guide was informative and only too pleased to answer questions in Spanish, English and French. Walking through his home and library, seeing where he worked, rested and entertained was privilege. I loved his library built to house all and his wife’s books. Allow and hour and a half and make sure you are there for opening at 10.

Cueva del Viento

The longest lavatunnel i all of Europe, with more than 18 km now explored. A vulcanic tunnel that now has caused scientific interest, because of the cocroach born without eyes. An absoultely amazing experience to get a guided tour into this underground vulcanic world. Highly recommended for those who want to experience something different in this beautiful island.

You have to prebook your place on this trip prior to going, they only allow 16 people a time into the cave. The tour was fantastic and very well organised, our tour guide was very knowledgable, we had two young children in our group and he made it fun and interesting for them as well the adults. There is a short 20 minute walk to the cave through beautiful woodland, not too strenuous. I would highly recommend.

We went to see Cristina De Vera exhibition which was a kind of pointillism style - I liked the two landscape paintings of Toledo best. Other unusual paintings on display. Building had amazing wooden floors and ceilings. Free after 5 on Friday afternoons.

Thanks to a previous review we came for a visit and I have to admit that we enjoyed everything we were able to see and learn. This place is not well known but it should be due the upmost level of information they present here. One learn to know a lot of flora and fauna (close to my heart) of the island, more about volcanic activity etc. One of the best booths were the one giving a 3-D experience of the nature. For families with small children there could be some hands-on exhibits, but still as it is right now it is highly recommended.

This baranco is very long. To get the most out of it I'd recommend heading to Montana de las tierras and starting out from there. We drove but saw taxis which you could pick up from aguimes. There was also evidence of a bus service, although I'd want to check the timetable before relying on them, not sure how frequent the service is.  Once you've parked up you can follow the track up for as long as you like. It gives some great views of the area you've driven through. The trail also continues on through the baranco. We only had an hour of daylight so didn't go far. But looks like you could quite happily walk carry on for plenty a mile (although obviously check a map for trails). Also on the road from aguimes to the mountain you'll see the interpretation centre for the valley. Sadly it was closed for technical reasons when were there (mid December 2019).

This beach is by Costa del Silencio, next to Montaña Amarilla point, on the coast of the nature area of the same name. It is a stony beach used by nudists. Access is from Ten-Bel or the neighbouring complexes, after the Marino and Amarilla Bay apartments.

We climbed mount amarilla to eat our picnic at the top. Fab day out. ????

Beautiful village set in a spectacular gorge. Amazing drive- yes it is a bit hairy but roads are good- through the mountains with good viewing spots on the way. The gorge walk is closed at present but just to walk around Masca village was enough for us! Its very hilly but so relaxing and quiet. Excellent place to visit.
