Bambu Stage is a hybrid theatre with creative, entertaining and informative nightly shows, as well as daily puppet and drumming workshops. We are a performing arts venue and gathering place for artists and art lovers. We operate as a social entreprise with the goal of contributing to a sustainable Cambodian arts scene.
We had been hoping to see a traditional puppet show for some time now, and we thoroughly enjoyed the Bambu Stage experience. The venue had a lovely ambiance, and it was wonderful to see the traditional arts being revived in Cambodia! During the show, we had the opportunity to watch the puppeteers in action in front of and behind the screen—both of which were interesting perspectives. The puppeteers were superb actors and very talented puppet makers, as well. Our local guide joined us, and it was a hoot seeing him crack up at the many jokes during the performance. After the show, we had the opportunity to watch a puppet being crafted, to operate the puppets ourselves (they were pretty heavy!), and to test out some of the traditional musical instruments. We also got to snap a picture with Archie, their adorable 4-legged security guard. This would be a great venue for a date night or to take the kids, as well. Overall, it was a lovely evening that provided further insight into Cambodian culture while also adding more variety into our daily itinerary of temple visits.

ROMCHEIK 5 is nominated in the TOP 10 BEST INDEPENDENT Art spaces in S.E. Asia and N° 1 in Cambodia (The Guardian / November 2017) ! Romcheik 5 is the name of the neighbourhood of Battambang where, in 2012, 4 young artists (25 years old) have established their studios with the help of a donor. In 2015, this space has been extended with the construction of a building sheltering an art gallery and since October 2018 a real Museum with a permanent collection of their best artworks. The entrance to the all site is charged 5$ (discount 2 $ 50), to contribute to the maintenance of the premises and the purchase of artist materials.
I really loved this art gallery. It has interesting art by Cambodian artists, as well as a serene rooftop cafe. Would absolutely recommend a visit.

In 2011, the space now occupied by Sangker Gallery was a common studio where freshly educated artists met to exchange ideas and collaborate. While wanting to offer better visibility to the artists, the gallery did not want to break with the primary function of the place and limit itself to an exhibition space. The gallery is always a living space where artists can find material for their creations, work on their projects, draw inspiration from one another and use the internet for their research. Close to its artists, the team of the gallery takes to heart to support them in their artistic process. Film screenings are organized, debates, meetings and workshops by and for artists are set up with a specific theme (color, sculpture, etc.). We try to provide them with all the keys to success, especially by involving them in intercultural exchanges. In the heart of the city of Battambang, Sangker Gallery is committed to bringing contemporary art to the Cambodian public.

Just visited this amazing place. There is about a 45 minute tour that includes a video some visuals and a live demonstration so you can see how the rats are trained and the great work they are accomplishing. Utilizing the rats allows the people working them to move quickly and efficiently which ultimately saves lives. This proves that not all heros wear capes! Please go and see, please donate to this wonderful organization and help to spread the word!

Banteay Srei or Banteay Srey is a 10th-century Cambodian temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Located in the area of Angkor, it lies near the hill of Phnom Dei, 25 km north-east of the main group of temples that once belonged to the medieval capitals of Yasodharapura and Angkor Thom.
Known popularly as Ladies temple this red sandstone temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is widely praised as Jewel of Angkor Wat for its intricate carvings. Another piece of interesting information- this is the only major temple in Angkor not built by a monarch - the construction is credited to the courtiers named Vishnukumara and Yajnavaraha.

Koh Ker, three hours from Siem Reap, served as the capital of the Khmer empire from 928 to 944, and was built under King Jayavarman IV under whose reign colossal sculptures and lingas were constructed, leading to charges of megalomania. Some of the lingas remain, though the sculptures have been removed to the museum in Phnom Penh. The site, which has only recently been demined, is dominated by Prasat Thom, a 30 meter high pyramid temple. In view of the distance, there are far fewer crowds here, making a visit an easier and more pastoral experience.
Tired of visiting crowded temples? Koh Ker temple is located about 100 kilometers from Siem Reap, and if you go early in the morning with a private driver you can actually visit this temple (pyramid) alone, Something you seldom can experience these days! Absolutely worth the drive about 2-2,5 hours one way! If possible I would choose a english speaking driver!

I just returned from my fifth trip to Siem Reap and it was my first time to go to Beng Mealea. I was planning on paying the $ 5 admission cost but on January 1, 2020 they began requiring a regular temple pass to access. I have used the same tuk tuk driver for the past 3 trips and he had no issue taking us that far. While I really enjoy riding in a tuk tuk, a two hour trip each way is a bit much and if I did this again I would opt to hire a car and possibly combine it with other remote temple tours. We arrived around 3 pm (15) and I doubt there were more than 10 other visitors. We really felt we had it basically to ourselves and really enjoyed it. We really enjoy the less visited temples and this trip it was our focus.

This temple is rather out of the way, so it doesn't get the huge crowds that others get. It's a very nice temple in really very good shape--in the end, I think it must be my favorite of all of them. It's not hard to reach and can easily be included on a trip up to Banteay Serei and/or Kbal Spean. The entrance fee is, of course, included in the normal Angkor Archeological Park ticket.

11th-century Relief Carvings Line The Stream Beds Along This Series Of Waterfalls.
This lesser advertised site is a gem to behold. A shaivites bucket list dream for sure. (The other known SahasraLinga site in the world is in India, located around 14 km from the Sirsi Taluk in the district of Uttar Kannada of Karnataka.) The Cambodian SahasraLinga is amazing to behold with the more than thousand Lingas in the rockbed of the river. One can do the 1.8km jungle trek or get a driver to take you to the stream directly. With less able tourists and young children opt for the latter. The carved rock formations date back to 11th century and span 150 meters of the Stung Kbal Spean River. It must have taken some effort to hammer out these carvings in the presence of flowing water. They are arranged in formations grouped into 8x8 matrices. These groups of 64 signify the 64 forms of Lord Shiva described in the Puranas. There is also a submerged carving of the reclining form of Lord Vishnu slightly further upstream. Couple this site with a visit to nearby Buddha and Shiva Temple followed by a dip in the waterfalls which is totally refreshing. If your itinerary allows, do not miss this hidden gem - an archaeologists’ pilgrimage.
