Combining an uplifting local community project with unique artistic activities and an opportunity to purchase handmade gifts, Shanga has been a favourite Arusha destination since 2007. Shanga is all about the workshop where over 50 disabled Tanzanians recycle glass, paper and aluminium into high quality jewellery, glassware and homewares which are sold in the Shanga Shop. Meet our inspiring people and participate in a workshop activity or sign-language lesson, and take home a unique and hand-made local gift or keepsake. Close to Arusha Airport and on the road leading to the National Parks.
Great to wander the facility and see how the various products are made. Bought so many handcrafted and unique gifts here, and love that they're using recycled materials. Followed by a fresh lemon and ginger drink, it was a great experience overall.

Augustine's Adventure Africa (AA Africa) offers private and customized safaris to Tanzania game parks, bird watching trips, hiking trails, cultural and ecological tourism & Zanzibar beach escapes. Be our guest and join our professional team of Guides and Naturalists for an African adventure of a lifetime!
Let me start this review by stating that my husband and I give our HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION to Augustine’s Adventure Africa (AA Africa) for a visit to Tanzania. There are not enough superlatives in the English language to adequately express our satisfaction with every aspect of our trip as planned by AA Africa. Our first trip with Augustine was in February 2016. We said we would return with friends and we did in February 2019 for a 12 day adventure. You will see the words “surprising” and “amazing” throughout this review. That is because, while Augustine came highly recommended to us, we were still surprised how this trip exceeded all our expectations of what the experience would be. We credit Augustine with providing us with the trip of a lifetime. PREPARATION. Augustine provided us with a detailed itinerary and information package which gave comprehensive information about what to expect, what to wear, what to pack, etc. In addition, he answered all my questions promptly and clearly via email. And I asked a lot of questions! STAFF. We spent ten days with Augustine, who is a naturalist and our driver guides Moses and Solomon. Again, there are not enough superlatives to describe them. Anyone can drive you around and let you look at the sights. With Augustine, you get an amazing experience. He has 20 years’ experience and is so knowledgeable about his country, the various ecosystems, the people and their cultures, plant life, birds and of course, the animals. We learned so much from him and it made the trip extraordinarily special. He is also gracious, thoughtful and funny. Elisha, with 18 years’ experience, was an incredibly driver who navigated the bumpy roads with amazing skill. We consider him the finest driver we have ever seen. He too was a kind and thoughtful man. We were humbled to spend our trip with such fine people. ACCOMMODATIONS. There are all levels of accommodations in Tanzania, like anywhere else. Augustine selected top places, at his recommendation and at our request. If you are going all the way to Tanzania, why would you basically “cheap out” with the places you will be staying? Not smart. We were so very pleased with all the places we stayed. We were actually surprised how wonderful they all were. From the Kibo Place Hotel in Arusha to the Lake Masek Tented Camp in the Serengeti, we were extremely pleased. Actually, we were more than pleased: we were shocked. Each place was comfortable, clean and surprisingly luxurious. Each place also had excellent staff and services. My husband, who can be a bit of a hotel snob, LOVED each place. Fabulous!! GAME RUNS. I don’t even know where to start. Whatever our expectations were, Augustine far exceeded them. We saw so many animals on a daily basis. We saw animal behaviors that were amazing. What made the experience so much better was having Augustine explain in detail everything we were seeing, answering our many questions clearly and concisely. Because words cannot adequately tell the tale, I hope a few of my photos can. Trip Advisor would not allow me to post a link to my photo album of our trip. I took over 6,000 photos this trip. We cannot thank Augustine enough. I don’t know what else to say. If you visit Tanzania and do not go with Augustine’s Adventure Africa, it’s your loss. Asante sana.
