In the Land of the Rising Sun, ancient temples sit alongside neon wonderlands and shinto shrines offer pockets of peace amid metropolises. Add tea ceremonies, snow monkeys, sushi, kimonos, and karaoke to the mix, and you’ve got one of the world’s most fascinating countries.

It's about 20 minute walk from the ferry terminal, but the staff gave me a ride both ways. It's a public-run hotel and looks like it. The staff do their best. The room is old and tired, badly in need of reburshing. The bed is as hard as rock, very uncomfortable. I had dinner there - no choice, just take it or leave it - but it was actually quite tasty. I chose this hotel because it was the only one open in this Covid January. It there had been anything else open, I wouldn't have stayed here.

Located right next to the Mt. Iwodake and three volcanic ponds. The location is really nice because it's really cozy to take a rest in the onsen(hot spring) after trekking the Ebino Plateau and the Three Ponds(unfortunately, I didn't make it to have a look at the Budouji because of the volcanic activity of Mt. Iwodake). The room was clean and cozy, but the wallpaper was a little bit teared off(very little). The dinner was nice too, the Japanese Kaiseki cuisine was served. Onsen was nice too. It's a hot spring of mild water with some iron, known to be quite rare. The outer bath was also nice.

The hotel is convenient from the ferry and is situated with lovely bay views of Kagoshima. We had dinner in the restaurant and really enjoyed our meals. We had sashimi and the beef and vegetables you cook yourself over a hot stone-like grill. I also enjoyed browsing around their gift shop as they had a lot of interesting items and foods there. The room was Japanese style had a lovely view of the bay. When we went down for dinner they had our beds ready for us which was nice. The staff was very warm, friendly and hospitable. We really enjoyed our stay.

Spacious hotel with big dining hall. Rooms are typical Japanese size. Service is efficient and friendly. Onsens are available. Dinner was generous. It’s near the Takachiho gorge which is simply gorgeous.

Room is larger than what I expected. 8 tatami mats plus alpha space is so enough for 2 people. Sulfurous hot spring relaxed us well. "Jigoku" is 15 minutes on foot from this hotel. We enjoyed "Jigoku" hiking before breakfast. Dinner & breakfast is so delicious for us. In addition, hotel people's hospitality is so nice.

This is a clean, friendly hotel on the outskirts of Soja near the surrounding farmland and forests. Pretty simple in a fairly modern building with a nice onsen attached. It's not a luxurious venue, but I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and it is good value for money. Efficient and polite staff. A choice of western or Japanese style bedrooms. There is a Japanese banquet "kaiseki" for dinner and a buffet for breakfast. The food was tasty and plentiful, albeit not particularly fancy by Japanese standards. We got a taxi from Soja station for a thousand yen or so, and it's probably 3 km or so distant. The hotel will refund some of this if you show them your receipt. There is also a hotel mini bus that shuttles back and forwards to the station a few times a day. There is a big car park out the front, if necessary.

Where to begin! Kujukuri is an amazing beach town and pretty much the closet place one can swim in the ocean from Narita Airport. The hotel is right on the beach and the ocean is a 2 minute barefoot walk away. Surfers, fisherman and beach walkers can be seen on the beach. Lots of cool shells, the waves are a little strong and the water is a bit cold but it is so worth it! After the beach take a dip in the lovely pools and hot tub, there is also an amazing steam room that is a really cool experience in itself. It is worth it to get the buffet breakfast (vegetarian options!) and dinner (if you eat meat/fish). Really great authentic experience! Wear the yukata and sandals they give you to round it out! Neat market, game room, spa, golf course, karaoke etc for entertainment in hotel. Or take a drive around town and check out local shops. Hotel staff are really sweet and accomodating. Rooms are awesome and very large. Rent a car from the airport and drive less than an hour to this awesome hotel on the beach!

This hotel markets its ‘onshen’ communal bathing, but it seems strange that while each rooms has its own ensuite toilet and vanity basin, that they didn't bother putting in showers in the rooms - so the onshen is almost a requirement, not an option. Excellent kaiseki dinner.

What a great place this is. We visited in oktober last year and Ive just found it online. We passed the ryokan by chance when we were planning a hike up to Mt Meakan (very intense). It was the best place we’ve come across in our two week Hokkaido trip. The woman who runs it is absolutely lovely and you feel part of the family immediately. Little English is spoken but possible to communicate. Go for the full breakfast and dinner options, real ryokan style! Don’t miss the hot springs in the back. They are truly healing after a day of hiking of cruising around the lakes. Great find! Would recommend this to everybody touring Hokkaido or planning to hike Mt Meakan. Be aware, very advanced hikers only. Don’t go up if it rains or snows! Thank you! We hope to come back any time soon.

Tucked away at a remote site of Hitachi-Kita, but worthwhile to visit for its great view of the Pacific Ocean and indoor onsen on the 7th Floor. The only minus is there was no outdoor onsen overseeing the Pacific Ocean. Despite there is a small beach area beside the hotel, we were told that it is unsuitable for swimming due to the very steep seabed. Dinner was served in a private tatami dining room, the traditional fare was superb with huge varieties. I particularly loved the Hitachi beef shabu-shabu with ponzu sauce. Breakfast was served in a stunning chapel look-alike building, separated from the hotel via a connecting bridge. The overall experience staying there was very good.
