The 18 hole Al Ghazal Golf course, which opened in 1997, measures 6711 yards of the white tees, with a par 71 and presents an exciting challenge to the novice and the experienced golfer. The front nine holes (par 35) are based around an archaeological site which was once an old coastline. The back nine (par 36), which have recently been developed, present a great challenge. Be careful of the water on the 11th and 17th! As a sustainable golf course, players use a piece of artificial grass when hitting from the fairways. Instead of greens there are browns. These are created by compacting rolled and treated sand and, as the players quickly discover, they give an extremely true putting surface. Any golfer who is either living in the UAE or visiting, you MUST play 18 holes at Yas Links. It is without doubt the best golfing experience in the country. Since opening in 2010, it has always been ranked as the number 1 course in the region and I agree 100%. The course condition is superb and a privilege to play on. Congratulations to Clinton Southorn (Cluster Director of Agronomy) and his hard working team on producing such an amazing product. The staff were so welcoming at the bag drop area and throughout the entire clubhouse. This was complimented by the on course staff who were also very accommodating during my round. I could tell that they have been well trained and managed. They all came across very knowledgeable, genuine and happy to be working at this world class facility. The Golf Operations Manager, Lee Waggott, took the time out of his busy schedule to spend some time with me on the 14th hole which I thought was a nice touch. Another quality product of Troon Golf who is excelling in his role and no doubt has a bright future. In closing, today's experience reminded me why I love the game of golf so much. Holes 16, 17 & 18 at sunset will be forever remembered in my mind. I am so looking forward to returning to the nation's capital to play this absolute gem again hopefully sooner rather than later. Well done to all involved, you are a credit not only your owners but the golf industry as a whole. Thanks to Daniel Wright for arranging. He met me on arrival and represented the club in such a professional way.

We were greeted like royalty on arrival to this beautiful setting, the guys in the pro shop were so helpful and after finding out it was our first visit to the club set about giving us a tour and settling us in before our round. There were no first tee nerves as we were put totally at ease by our starter and it was so refreshing to be told as the club was not busy that day we had time to take in the views as we went round the stunning course with some of the best golf views we have ever experienced. Can’t wait to return on our next staycation.
