Golf on the Roof of the World - When the game of golf is played on a course carved out of original Rocky Mountain terrain, something fundamental changes. There is a mystery built in. Not just the practical question of where the ball will land, but how will you ever return to urban golf after a magical mountain golfing experience like the one at Silvertip. Designed by world renowned architect Les Furber, the course plays from an approachable 5,089 yards to an awesome championship 7,173 yards, with over 600 feet of elevation change, making it the single most breathtaking mountain course in the world for literally any level of play.
My husband and I loved golfing Silvertip. We are from Saskatchewan, so the terrain and views are definitely different from home! Be prepared to walk and lots of elevation changes on foot - we each walked ~10,000 steps and climbed the equivalent of 23 flights of stairs, and we had a cart! The cart path between holes is a beautiful drive through the rugged landscape and is a treat itself.

Designed by the late Stanley Thompson, this challenging 6,729-yard, 27-hole course offers scenic thrills and golf challenges throughout its "Stanley Thompson 18" and "The Tunnel 9" courses.
Golfed here in August on a beautiful day and just couldn't get over the scenery and gorgeous golf holes. Lots of challenge and length (especially if the wind is blowing) and of course mountains on all sides to enjoy. Tons of character as the course winds through the Bow River valley with the Banff Springs Hotel overlooking the 14th green and 15th tee deck. (Drive up the hill to see the original #1 Tee deck (now #15) high above the river for one of the most gorgeous shots in golf. I found the course to be in excellent condition, the greens ran true and lots of challenge. I did learn that because the course is within a National Park, there are some restrictions on course maintenance - so specifically the rocks in the sandtraps are not to be removed or altered - as the area needs to naturally drain. Some members shared with me that the 'local rule' is to move your ball, or the rocks out of the way for your shots out of the bunker - save your clubs and some frustration. Staff there is great, and marshalling is active on the course to keep things moving but in a friendly way. Not a cheap activity, but how often will you find yourself in Banff playing a course that's around 100 years old in such a setting?

Stanley Thompson, Canada's master golf course architect, displayed some of the finest work of his career with this design. The 18-hole layout offers elevated tee boxes, dramatic bunkering and holes aligned with distant mountain vistas. He built wide fairways that carve through thick forest, and maintained a partnership with the environment's natural contours, blending beautiful landscapes with challenging terrain. As a result, few golf courses in the world can match the rugged majesty of this national treasure.
Nothing can beat the majestic views on every hole! I've played Cabot links/cliffs and they are more of a strict golfer's destination. JP plays more like a resort course with slow greens. Thoroughly enjoyable, especially being paired with 2 members who were so helpful. The staff are very competent and friendly. I would come back any time, but don't feel the need to make it a priority compared to Cabot or Bandon Dunes. Walkable course, but we failed to enquire about that and rode.

In the heart of the Canadian Rockies, less than an hour’s drive from either Calgary or Banff, visitors find a golfing paradise. Kananaskis Country Golf Course is one of the premier golf destinations in the Canadian Rockies and second to none as a spectacular location for a golf vacation. Forming an unforgettable landscape, the rugged surrounding mountains tower 10,000 feet (3,000 metres) above sea level, the courses themselves are at almost 5,000 feet (1,500 metres). Situated in the Kananaskis Valley among boreal forest, the Mount Lorette and Mount Kidd Courses are named for the soaring limestone peaks that serve as their breathtaking backdrop. The Courses offer immaculate lush fairways, bent grass greens, over 140 silica sand bunkers, four sets of tee boxes, glacier fed creeks and ponds, the cascading Kananaskis River and a variety of wildlife.
Many thanks to the people who have restored this incredibly beautiful course...everything is perfect, greens, tees and mountain scenery ….as golfing experiences go, this is hard to beat...put it on your bucket list.

I’ve played many different courses around Alberta and BC but I’ve gotta say Wintergreen is my absolute favourite course. I had a junior membership this year at Wintergreen and I can’t thank these guys enough for how hard they worked at making my experience a good one. They made me feel welcome in the pro shop and the marshals always showed an interesting in my game and the grounds crew did an amazing job at keeping the course in great shape! This course is designed in a way where every hole is different. They have holes that are uphill, downhill, flat, doglegs left and right and straight. It’s a super fun course that really works on different aspects of your game.
