We stopped by during market hours with our group and were offered a delicious fresh made sandwich sample with fresh mozzarella, tomato and olive oil. It was so good! So we stopped by again later and the friendly clerk told us we should come back in the morning to see them make fresh mozzarella. So, we did. 5:30 am. The market was not yet even open and only just starting to set up. They were so gracious to us and invited us to the door of their kitchen to watch every step of the cheese making process. And they even made coffee and shared it. Then they gave us a fresh, warm sample of the cheese right out of the salt bath, which was so so good! We took two fresh “loaves” to share with the group later, and the cheese maker wanted it to be a gift to us for getting up so early. So gracious, friendly and proud of his quality craftsmanship. And rightfully so. Thank you so a fascinating and delicious experience! Please patronize these folks. You will not be disappointed.

Pastificio Il Mattarello

The pasta factory "Il Mattarello" has been in activity since 20 years. It is situated in Bronte, a small city on Etna's hillside, in the province of Catania and it is famous for the so called "Green Gold", the pistachio. In particular, the pistachio characterizes the Sicilian food and cuisine by making flavours and tastes unique in the world. The Pasta factory "Il Mattarello" means quality and food freshness. Our pistachio ravioli suits perfectly customers' palate thanks to their flavour, taste and texture. Ravioli are a type of filled pasta: pistachio is both in the dough and in the filling mixed with beef meat. We do not use any type of artificial preservative but only natural flavours. The pasta factory "Il Mattarello" is not only know for the fresh pasta's production, but also for typical Italian egg-pasta, such as maccheroni, tortellini (pasta filled with meet), tagliatelle paglia e fieno (white and green noodles), ravioli filled by spinach and ricotta or beef. We always use advanced tools and we are capable of working in a fast and precise way by following all the European rules. It also has to be mentioned our artisanal way to produce strozzapreti, a kind of pasta made by a special tool which turn over the dough giving it a twisted shape. The slightly different dimension between one and another single piece is the mark that guarantees the best artisanal quality.

The owner was absolutely wonderful. We arrived in the town just as most businesses were closing (2pm) but Il Pistachio was still open. He let us sample many products and everything was so good that we purchased nearly everything we tried. He then went out of his way to call a friend and ask them to keep their restaurant open so we could have lunch, which they did! I’m reviewing them next( Osteria Fastuq). He also recommended a nearby town where we could find many wine shops with wine produced from the vineyards of Mt Etna. I can’t say enough great things about our visit to this lovely little shop and the kind owner.

We were traveling around in Sicily and found this lovely and beautiful store. Domenica the owner showed us around in the workshop and the store that was filled with beautiful Sicilian porcelain. We fell in love with everything which made it hard to choose, we had also seen some plates here on TripAdvisor that another customer had orders. We asked if it would be possible to order them and get them shipped to Sweden together with the other things we bought. It was no problem and Dominica kept in touch and let us be a part of the process by asking about details in the print and colors. I really love that she updated us and let us feel involved. I really recommend everyone that’s visiting Siracusa to stop by, you will feel in love like we did!
