On a day trip to Prince Edward County, we happened upon "The Local Store" a wonderful store (converted from a barn) displaying hundreds of locally made crafts, art works, books, preserves and many other delectable or intriguing items. The staff are friendly and helpful, but not pushy at all. While the address indicates Picton, it's much closer to the eastern end of West Lake.

We are currently undergoing upgrades at our facility but we look forward to being back in production soon! In the meantime we have both locally produced and imported cheeses for offer. Our retail store hosts a selection of decadent goods to accompany our fine cheeses.Come on out for a visit!
My friends and I ordered two of the Graze and Go cheese/salami plates and it was one of the best choices we made for our entire trip. The name is a bit underwhelming for what you get - a mini charcuterie plate! It came with two types of meat, five kinds of cheese, dark chocolate squares, blueberries, balsamic vinegar, spiced honey, figs, pesto and crackers. It was so much more than we expected and everything was delicious. You can't go wrong ordering this plate.

Our century old barn is the original site of the Black River Cheese Factory dated 1876. It sits on the banks of the scenic Black River in Prince Edward County and is filled with an eclectic mix of garden art, sculpture, handcrafted jewellery, plus loads of funny retro signs and magnets. We also have a small menagerie of chickens and ducks to visit here as well.
