The former Amsterdam Main Post Office is located on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal behind the Palace on the Dam. The building was constructed in a mixture of neo-styles, in which mainly neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance elements were used (also called: Post Office Gothic). It belongs to the Top 100 Dutch UNESCO monuments. Today, Magna Plaza is an attractive covered shopping centre with a food plaza and a variety of shops that are open 7 days a week. In these beautiful surroundings, you will find the cheese gift shop of Cheese & More by Henri Willig.

This historic building of small shops and a Virgin Records store is THE place in Amsterdam to shop for the holidays.
What a great discovery on our arrival in Amsterdam! The food court on the top floor of this gorgeous historic building offers a collection of food outlets and we chose Asian dim sum. The dumplings, spring rolls and gyozas were all delicious and the presentation was colourful and enticing. Much more upmarket than a typical food court in a shopping venue for sure. Not only is the architecture of the Magna Plaza gorgeous with it’s high vaulted ceiling but the building was flooded with light. The location is five minutes or less from Dam Square and we could look back on it and the neighbouring church from our table on the top floor. The collection of shops passed on the way to the food court looked enticing too but we only came for the food.
